Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Et tu, fili hominis,“And as for you, son of man:hæc dicit Dominus Deus terræ Israël:Thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel:Finis venit:The end is coming, venit finis super quatuor plagas terræ.the end is coming, over the four regions of the earth.
Nunc finis super te,Now the end is over you,et immittam furorem meum in te:and I will send my fury upon you.et judicabo te juxta vias tuas,And I will judge you according to your ways.et ponam contra te omnes abominationes tuas. And I will place all your abominations before you.
Et non parcet oculus meus super te,And my eye will not be lenient over you,et non miserebor:and I will not take pity.sed vias tuas ponam super te,Instead, I will set your ways upon you,et abominationes tuæ in medio tui erunt, and your abominations will be in your midst.et scietis quia ego Dominus. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”
Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Afflictio una,“One affliction, behold, afflictio ecce venit.one affliction is approaching.
Finis venit,The end is coming, venit finis:the end is coming.evigilavit adversum te,It has been vigilant against you. Behold, ecce venit.it is approaching.
Venit contritio super te,Destruction is coming over you,qui habitas in terra:who live upon the earth.venit tempus,The time is approaching, prope est dies occisionis, the day of slaughter is near,et non gloriæ montium.and it is not of the glory of the mountains.
Nunc de propinquo effundam iram meam super te,Now, very soon, I will pour out my wrath upon you,et complebo furorem meum in te:and I will fulfill my fury in you.et judicabo te juxta vias tuas,And I will judge you according to your ways,et imponam tibi omnia scelera tua,and I will set upon you all your crimes.
et non parcet oculus meus,And my eye will not be lenient, nec miserebor:nor will I take pity.sed vias tuas imponam tibi,Instead, I will place your ways upon you,et abominationes tuæ in medio tui erunt, and your abominations will be in your midst.et scietis quia ego sum Dominus percutiens. And you shall know that I am the Lord, who is striking.
Ecce dies,Behold, the day!ecce venit:Behold, it approaches!egressa est contritio,Destruction has gone forth,floruit virga,the rod has blossomed,germinavit superbia,arrogance has germinated.
iniquitas surrexit in virga impietatis:Iniquity has risen up into a rod of impiety.non ex eis,There shall be nothing left of them,et non ex populo, and of their people, neque ex sonitu eorum:and of the sound of them.et non erit requies in eis.And there shall be no rest for them.
Venit tempus, appropinquavit dies:The time is approaching; the day is very near.qui emit, non lætetur,Whoever buys should not rejoice.et qui vendit, non lugeat:And whoever sells should not mourn.quia ira super omnem populum ejus. For wrath is over all of their people.
Quia qui vendit, ad id quod vendidit non revertetur:For whoever sells will not return to what he has sold,et adhuc in viventibus vita eorum:but as yet their life will be among the living.visio enim ad omnem multitudinem ejus non regredietur,For the vision concerning their entire multitude will not turn back.et vir in iniquitate vitæ suæ non confortabitur. And man will not be strengthened in the iniquity of his life.
Canite tuba,Sound the trumpet!præparentur omnes:Let everyone be prepared!et non est qui vadat ad prælium:And yet there is no one who may go to battle.ira enim mea super universum populum ejus. For my wrath is over all their people.
Gladium foris,The sword is outside,et pestis et fames intrinsecus:and the pestilencequi in agro est,and the famine are inside.gladio morietur,Whoever is in the field will die by the sword.et qui in civitate,And whoever is in the city will be devoured by the pestilencepestilentia et fame devorabuntur.and the famine.
Et salvabuntur qui fugerint ex eis:And those who flee from among them will be saved.et erunt in montibus quasi columbæ convallium omnes trepidi,And they will be among the mountains, like doves in steep valleys, with every one of them trembling, unusquisque in iniquitate sua.each one because of his iniquity.
Omnes manus dissolventur,All hands will be weakened,et omnia genua fluent aquis.and all knees will flow with water.
Et accingent se ciliciis,And they will wrap themselves with haircloth,et operiet eos formido:and dread will cover them.et in omni facie confusio,And shame will be upon every face,et in universis capitibus eorum calvitium.and baldness will be upon all of their heads.
Argentum eorum foras projicietur,Their silver will be thrown away,et aurum eorum in sterquilinium erit:and their gold will be like a dunghill.argentum eorum et aurum eorum non valebit liberare eos in die furoris Domini:Their silver and their gold will have no power to free them in the day of the fury of the Lord.animam suam non saturabunt,They will not satisfy their soul,et ventres eorum non implebuntur, and their bellies will not be filled, quia scandalum iniquitatis eorum factum est.because of the scandal of their iniquity.
Et ornamentum monilium suorum in superbiam posuerunt,And they have set arrogance as the ornament of their necklaces,et imagines abominationum suarumand they have made images of their abominations and graven idols.et simulacrorum fecerunt ex eo:Because of this, propter hoc dedi eis illud in immunditiam.I have let it be an uncleanness for them.
Et dabo illud in manus alienorum ad diripiendum,And I will give it into the hands of foreigners as a spoil,et impiis terræ in prædam, and to the impious of the earth as a prey,et contaminabunt illud.and they will defile it.
Et avertam faciem meam ab eis,And I will avert my face from them,et violabunt arcanum meum:and they will violate my place of mystery.et introibunt in illud emissarii,And untamed persons will enter into it,et contaminabunt illud.and they will defile it.
Fac conclusionem,Cause it to be closed.quoniam terra plena est judicio sanguinum,For the land has been filled with the judgment of blood,et civitas plena iniquitate.and the city is full of iniquity.
Et adducam pessimos de gentibus,And I will lead in the most sinful among the Gentiles,et possidebunt domos eorum:and they will possess their houses.et quiescere faciam superbiam potentium,And I will cause the arrogance of the powerful to be quieted.et possidebunt sanctuaria eorum. And they will possess their sanctuaries.
Angustia superveniente,When anguish overwhelms them, requirent pacem, they will seek peace,et non erit.and there will be none.
Conturbatio super conturbationem veniet,Disturbance will follow after disturbance,et auditus super auditum:and rumor after rumor.et quærent visionem de propheta,And they will seek the vision of the prophet,et lex peribit a sacerdote, and the law will perish from the priest,et consilium a senioribus.and counsel will perish from the elders.
Rex lugebit,The king will mourn,et princeps induetur mœrore, and the prince will be clothed with grief,et manus populi terræ conturbabuntur:and the hands of the people of the earth will be greatly disturbed.secundum viam eorum faciam eis,I will act toward them in accord with their own way,et secundum judicia eorum judicabo eos,and I will judge them in accord with their own judgments.et scient quia ego Dominus. And they shall know that I am the Lord.”
