Et egredietur virga de radice Jesse,And a rod will go forth from the root of Jesse,et flos de radice ejus ascendet.and a flower will ascend from his root.

Et requiescet super eum spiritus Domini:And the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him:spiritus sapientiæ et intellectus, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, spiritus consilii et fortitudinis, the spirit of counsel and fortitude, spiritus scientiæ et pietatis;the spirit of knowledge and piety.

et replebit eum spiritus timoris Domini. And he will be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord.Non secundum visionem oculorum judicabit,He will not judge according to the sight of the eyes, neque secundum auditum aurium arguet;nor reprove according to the hearing of the ears.

sed judicabit in justitia pauperes,Instead, he will judge the poor with justice,et arguet in æquitate pro mansuetis terræ;and he will reprove the meek of the earth with fairness.et percutiet terram virga oris sui,And he will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,et spiritu labiorum suorum interficiet impium.and he will slay the impious with the spirit of his lips.

Et erit justitia cingulum lumborum ejus,And justice will be the belt around his waist.et fides cinctorium renum ejus. And faith will be the warrior’s belt at his side.

Habitabit lupus cum agno,The wolf will dwell with the lamb;et pardus cum hædo accubabit; vitulus, and the leopard will lie down with the kid;et leo, et ovis, simul morabuntur, the calf and the lion and the sheep will abide together;et puer parvulus minabit eos.and a little boy will drive them.

Vitulus et ursus pascentur,The calf and the bear will feed together;simul requiescent catuli eorum;their young ones will rest together.et leo quasi bos comedet paleas. And the lion will eat straw like the ox.

Et delectabitur infans ab ubere super foramine aspidis; And a breastfeeding infant will play above the lair of the asp.et in caverna reguli qui ablactatus fuerit manum suam mittet. And a child who has been weaned will thrust his hand into the den of the king snake.

Non nocebunt,They will not harm,et non occident in universo monte sancto meo,and they will not kill, on all my holy mountain.quia repleta est terra scientia Domini,For the earth has been filled with the knowledge of the Lord, sicut aquæ maris operientes.like the waters covering the sea.

In die illa radix Jesse,In that day, the root of Jesse, qui stat in signum populorum, who stands as a sign among the people, ipsum gentes deprecabuntur, the same the Gentiles shall beseech,et erit sepulchrum ejus gloriosum.and his sepulcher will be glorious.

Et erit in die illa:And this shall be in that day:adjiciet Dominus secundo manum suam ad possidendum residuum populi sui,the Lord will send forth his hand a second time to take possession of the remnant of his people who will be left behind:quod relinquetur ab Assyriis, from Assyria,et ab Ægypto, and from Egypt,et a Phetros, and from Pathros,et ab Æthiopia, and from Ethiopia,et ab Ælam, and from Elam,et a Sennaar, and from Shinar,et ab Emath, and from Hamath,et ab insulis maris.and from the islands of the sea.

Et levabit signum in nationes,And he will lift up a sign to the nations,et congregabit profugos Israël,and he will gather together the fugitives of Israel,et dispersos Juda colliget a quatuor plagis terræ.and he will collect the dispersed of Judah from the four regions of the earth.

Et auferetur zelus Ephraim,And the envy of Ephraim will be taken away,et hostes Juda peribunt;and the enemies of Judah will perish.Ephraim non æmulabitur Judam,Ephraim will not be a rival to Judah,et Judas non pugnabit contra Ephraim.and Judah will not fight against Ephraim.

Et volabunt in humeros Philisthiim per mare,And they will fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines through the sea;simul prædabuntur filios orientis;together they will plunder the sons of the east.Idumæa et Moab præceptum manus eorum,Idumea and Moab will be under the rule of their hand,et filii Ammon obedientes erunt.and the sons of Ammon will be obedient.

Et desolabit Dominus linguam maris Ægypti,And the Lord will desolate the tongue of the sea of Egypt.et levabit manum suam super flumen in fortitudine spiritus sui;And he will lift up his hand over the river, with the strength of his Spirit;et percutiet eum in septem rivis, and he will strike it, in its seven streams, ita ut transeant per eum calceati.so that they may cross through it in their shoes.

Et erit via residuo populo meo qui relinquetur ab Assyriis,And there will be a way for the remnant of my people, who will be left behind by the Assyrians:sicut fuit Israëli in die illa qua ascendit de terra Ægypti.just as there was for Israel in the day that he ascended from the land of Egypt.
