In anno quo ingressus est Thathan in Azotum,In the year in which Tharthan entered into Ashdod, cum misisset eum Sargon, when Sargon, rex Assyriorum, the king of the Assyrians,et pugnasset contra Azotum, had sent him,et cepisset eam:and when he had fought against Ashdod and had captured it,
in tempore illo locutus est Dominus in manu Isaiæ,in that same time, filii Amos, the Lord spoke by the hand of Isaiah, dicens:the son of Amoz,Vade, saying:et solve saccum de lumbis tuis,“Go forth,et calceamenta tua tolle de pedibus tuis.and remove the sackcloth from your waist,Et fecit sic,and take your shoes from your feet.”vadens nudusAnd he did so,et discalceatus.going out naked and barefoot.
Et dixit Dominus:And the Lord said:Sicut ambulavit servus meus Isaias nudus et discalceatus,Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot, trium annorum signum et portentum erit super Ægyptum et super Æthiopiam;as a sign and as a portent of three years over Egypt and over Ethiopia,
sic minabit rex Assyriorum captivitatem Ægypti,so also will the king of the Assyrians force the captivity of Egypt,et transmigrationem Æthiopiæ,and the transmigration of Ethiopia:juvenum et senum, young and old, nudam et discalceatam, naked and barefoot, discoopertis natibus, with their buttocks uncovered,ad ignominiam Ægypti.to the shame of Egypt.
Et timebunt, et confundentur ab Æthiopia spe sua,And they will be afraid and confounded over Ethiopia,et ab Ægypto gloria sua.their hope, and Egypt, their glory.
Et dicet habitator insulæ hujus in die illa:And in that day, the inhabitants of a certain island will say:Ecce hæc erat spes nostra,“Behold, this was our hope,ad quos confugimus in auxilium, ut liberarent nos a facie regis Assyriorum:we fled to them for help, to free us from the face of the king of the Assyrians.et quomodo effugere poterimus nos?And now, how will we be able to escape?”
