1Onus Ægypti.The burden of Egypt.Ecce Dominus ascendet super nubem levem,Behold, the Lord will ascend upon a lofty cloud,et ingredietur Ægyptum,and he will enter into Egypt,et commovebuntur simulacra Ægypti a facie ejus,and the false images of Egypt will be moved before his face,et cor Ægypti tabescet in medio ejus,and the heart of Egypt will waste away in its midst.
2et concurrere faciam Ægyptios adversus Ægyptios;And I will cause Egyptian to rush against Egyptian.et pugnabit vir contra fratrem suum,And they will fight: a man against his brother,et vir contra amicum suum,and a man against his friend,civitas adversus civitatem,city against city,regnum adversus regnum.kingdom against kingdom.
3Et dirumpetur spiritus Ægypti in visceribus ejus,And the spirit of Egypt will be ruptured to its very core.et consilium ejus præcipitabo;And I will cast down their plan violently.et interrogabunt simulacra sua,And they will seek answers from their false images,et divinos suos,and their diviners,et pythones,and those led by demons,et ariolos.and their seers.
4Et tradam Ægyptum in manu dominorum crudelium,And I will deliver Egypt into the hand of cruel masters,et rex fortis dominabitur eorum,and a strong king will dominate them,ait Dominus Deus exercituum.says the Lord, the God of hosts.
5Et arescet aqua de mari,And the waters of the sea will dry up,et fluvius desolabitur atque siccabitur.and the river will be desolate and dry.
6Et deficient flumina,And the rivers will fail.attenuabuntur et siccabuntur rivi aggerum,The streams of its banks will diminish and dry up.calamus et juncus marcescet.The reed and the bulrush will wither away.
7Nudabitur alveus rivi a fonte suo,The channel of the river will be stripped down to its source,et omnis sementis irrigua siccabitur,and everything irrigated by it will dry uparescet,and witheret non erit.and be no more.
8Et mœrebunt piscatores,And the fishermen will grieve.et lugebunt omnes mittentes in flumen hamum;And all who cast a hook into the river will mourn.et expandentes rete super faciem aquarum emarcescent.And those who cast a net upon the surface of its waters will languish.
9Confundentur qui operabantur linum,Those who work with linen,pectentescombing and weaving fine textiles,et texentes subtilia.will be confounded.
10Et erunt irrigua ejus flaccentia:And its irrigated places will begin to fail,omnes qui faciebant lacunas ad capiendos pisces.with all those who make pools to take fish.
11Stulti principes Taneos,The leaders of Tanis are foolish.sapientes consiliarii Pharaonis dederunt consilium insipiens.The wise counselors of Pharaoh have given foolish counsel.Quomodo dicetis Pharaoni:How can you say to Pharaoh:Filius sapientium ego,“I am the son of wise men,filius regum antiquorum?the son of the kings of antiquity?”
12Ubi nunc sunt sapientes tui?Where are your wise men now?annuntient tibi,Let them announce it to you,et indicent quid cogitaverit Dominus exercituum super Ægyptum.and let them reveal what the Lord of hosts intends for Egypt.
13Stulti facti sunt principes Taneos,The leaders of Tanis have become foolish.emarcuerunt principes Mempheos;The leaders of Memphis have decayed.deceperunt Ægyptum,They have deceived Egypt,angulum populorum ejus.the corner of its people.
14Dominus miscuit in medio ejus spiritum vertiginis;The Lord has mixed a spirit of giddiness into its midst.et errare fecerunt Ægyptum in omni opere suo,And they have caused Egypt to err in all its works,sicut errat ebrius et vomens.like a drunken man who staggers and vomits.
15Et non erit Ægypto opus quod faciat caput et caudam,And there will be no work for Egypt that would produce a head or a tail,incurvantem et refrenantem.one who bows down or one who refrains from bowing down.
16In die illa erit Ægyptus quasi mulieres;In that day,et stupebunt,Egypt will be like women,et timebunt a facie commotionis manus Domini exercituum,and they will be stupefied and fearful before the presence of the shaking hand of the Lord of hosts,quam ipse movebit super eam.the hand which he will move over them.
17Et erit terra Juda Ægypto in pavorem;And the land of Judah will be a dread to Egypt.omnis qui illius fuerit recordatus pavebit a facie consilii Domini exercituum,Everyone who thinks about it will be terrified before the presence of the plan of the Lord of hosts,quod ipse cogitavit super eam.the plan which he has decided concerning them.
18In die illa erunt quinque civitates in terra Ægypti loquentes lingua Chanaan,In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt which speak the language of Canaan,et jurantes per Dominum exercituum:and which swear by the Lord of hosts.Civitas solis vocabitur una.One will be called the City of the Sun.
19In die illa erit altare Domini in medio terræ Ægypti,In that day,et titulus Domini juxta terminum ejus.there will be an altar of the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt and a monument of the Lord beside its borders.
20Erit in signum et in testimonium Domino exercituum in terra Ægypti;This shall be a sign and a testimony to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt.clamabunt enim ad Dominum a facie tribulationis,For they will cry out to the Lord before the face of the tribulation,et mittet eis salvatorem et propugnatorem qui liberet eos.and he will send them a savior and a defender who will free them.
21Et cognoscetur Dominus ab Ægypto,And the Lord will be acknowledged by Egypt,et cognoscent Ægyptii Dominum in die illa;and the Egyptians will recognize the Lord in that day,et colent eum in hostiis et in muneribus;and they will worship him with sacrifices and gifts.et vota vovebunt Domino,And they will make vows to the Lord,et solvent.and they will fulfill them.
22Et percutiet Dominus Ægyptum plaga,And the Lord will strike Egypt with a scourge,et sanabit eam;and he will heal them.et revertentur ad Dominum,And they will return to the Lord.et placabitur eis,And he will be placated toward them,et sanabit eos.and he will heal them.
23In die illa erit via de Ægypto in Assyrios;In that day, there will be a way from Egypt to the Assyrians,et intrabit Assyrius Ægyptum,and the Assyrian will enter into Egypt,et Ægyptius in Assyrios,and the Egyptian will be with the Assyrians,et servient Ægyptii Assur.and the Egyptians will serve Assur.
24In die illa erit Israël tertius ÆgyptioIn that day,et Assyrio;will Israel be the third to the Egyptian and the Assyrian,benedictio in medio terræa blessing in the midst of the earth,
25cui benedixit Dominus exercituum,which the Lord of hosts has blessed,dicens:saying:Benedictus populus meus Ægypti,Blessed be my people of Egypt,et opus manuum mearum Assyrio;and the work of my hands for the Assyrian,hæreditas autem mea Israël.but Israel is my inheritance.
