Domine,O Lord,Deus meus es tu; exaltabo te,you are my God! I will exalt you,et confitebor nomini tuo:and I will confess your name.quoniam fecisti mirabilia,For you have accomplished miracles.cogitationes antiquas fideles.Your plan, from antiquity, is faithful.Amen.Amen.
Quia posuisti civitatem in tumulum,For you have appointed a city as a tomb, urbem fortem in ruinam,a strong city for ruination, domum alienorum:a house of foreigners:ut non sit civitas,so that it may not be a city,et in sempiternum non ædificetur.and so that it may not be rebuilt forever.
Super hoc laudabit te populus fortis;Concerning this, a strong people will praise you;civitas gentium robustarum timebit te:a city with a robust people will fear you.
quia factus es fortitudo pauperi,For you have been the strength of the poor, fortitudo egeno in tribulatione sua,the strength of the indigent in his tribulation, spes a turbine,a refuge from the whirlwind, umbraculum ab æstu;a shadow from the heat.spiritus enim robustorum quasi turbo impellens parietem. For the spirit of the mighty is like a whirlwind striking against a wall.
Sicut æstus in siti,You will bring low the uprising of foreigners, tumultum alienorum humiliabis;just as heat brings thirst.et quasi calore sub nube torrente,And like heat under a torrential cloud, propaginem fortium marcescere facies.you will cause the offshoot of the strong to wither away.
Et faciet Dominus exercituum omnibus populis in monte hoc convivium pinguium,And the Lord of hosts will cause all the peoples on this mountain to feast on fatness, convivium vindemiæ,to feast on wine, pinguium medullatorum,a fatness full of marrow, vindemiæ defæcatæ.a purified wine.
Et præcipitabit in monte isto faciem vinculi colligati super omnes populos, et telam quam orditus est super omnes nationes. And he will cast down violently, on this mountain, the face of the chains, with which all peoples had been bound, and the net, with which all nations had been covered.
Præcipitabit mortem in sempiternum; He will violently cast down death forever.et auferet Dominus Deus lacrimam ab omni facie,And the Lord God will take away the tears from every face,et opprobrium populi sui auferet de universa terra:and he will take away the disgrace of his people from the entire earth.quia Dominus locutus est.For the Lord has spoken it.
Et dicet in die illa:And they will say in that day:Ecce Deus noster iste;“Behold, exspectavimus eum, this is our God!et salvabit nos;We have waited for him, iste Dominus, and he will save us.sustinuimus eum:This is the Lord!exsultabimus,We have endured for him.et lætabimur in salutari ejus.We will exult and rejoice in his salvation.”
Quia requiescet manus Domini in monte isto; For the hand of the Lord will rest upon this mountain.et triturabitur Moab sub eo,And Moab will be trampled under him, sicuti teruntur paleæ in plaustro.just as stubble is worn away by a wagon.
Et extendet manus suas sub eo sicut extendit natans ad natandum; And he will extend his hands under him, like a swimmer extending his hands to swim.et humiliabit gloriam ejus cum allisione manuum ejus. And he will bring down his glory with a clap of his hands.
Et munimenta sublimium murorum tuorum concident,And the fortifications of your sublime walls will fall,et humiliabuntur, and be brought low,et detrahentur in terram usque ad pulverem.and be torn down to the ground, even to the dust.
