Audite hæc,Listen to these things, domus Jacob,O house of Jacob, qui vocamini nomine Israël,you who are called by the name of Israel,et de aquis Juda existis;and who went forth from the waters of Judah.qui juratis in nomine Domini,You swear by the name of the Lord and you call to mind the God of Israel,et Dei Israël recordamini non in veritatebut not in truth, neque in justitia.and not in justice.
De civitate enim sancta vocati sunt,For they have been called from the holy city,et super Deum Israël constabiliti sunt:and they have been founded upon the God of Israel.Dominus exercituum nomen ejus. The Lord of hosts is his name.
Priora ex tunc annuntiavi,From that time, I announced the former things.et ex ore meo exierunt,They went forth from my mouth,et audita feci ea:and I have caused them to be heard.repente operatus sum,I wrought these things suddenly,et venerunt.and they were fulfilled.
Scivi enim quia durus es tu,For I knew that you are stubborn,et nervus ferreus cervix tua,and that your neck is like an iron sinew,et frons tua ærea.and that your forehead is like brass.
Prædixi tibi ex tunc; From that time, antequam venirent,I foretold to you.indicavi tibi,Before these things happened,ne forte diceres:I revealed them to you,Idola mea fecerunt hæc,lest you say:et sculptilia mea“My idols have accomplished these things,et conflatilia mandaverunt ista.and my graven and molten images have commanded them.”
Quæ audisti, vide omnia;See all the things that you have heard.vos autem, num annuntiastis? But were you the ones who announced them?Audita feci tibi nova ex tunc,From that time, I caused you to hear about new things,et conservata sunt quæ nescis.and you do not know how these were preserved.
Nunc creata sunt et non ex tunc; They are created now, and not in that time.et ante diem,And even before today,et non audisti ea,you did not hear of them;ne forte dicas:otherwise, you might say,Ecce ego cognovi ea.“Behold, I knew them.”
Neque audisti,You have neither heard, neque cognovisti, nor known, neque ex tunc aperta est auris tua:nor were your ears open in that time.scio enim quia prævaricans prævaricaberis,For I knew that you would transgress greatly,et transgressorem ex utero vocavi te.and so I called you a transgressor from the womb.
Propter nomen meum longe faciam furorem meum,For the sake of my name, I will take the face of my fury far away.et laude mea infrenabo te,And for the sake of my praise, I will bridle you,ne intereas.lest you perish.
Ecce excoxi te,Behold, I have refined you,sed non quasi argentum; elegi te in camino paupertatis.but not like silver. I have chosen you for the furnace of poverty.
Propter me,For my sake, propter me faciam, for my own sake, I will do it,ut non blasphemer;so that I may not be blasphemed.et gloriam meam alteri non dabo. For I will not give my glory to another.
Audi me,Listen to me,Jacob,O Jacob,et Israël, quem ego voco:and Israel whom I call.ego ipse,I am the same,ego primus,I am the first,et ego novissimus.and I am the last.
Manus quoque mea fundavit terram,Also, my hand has founded the earth,et dextera mea mensa est cælos;and my right hand has measured the heavens.ego vocabo eos,I will call them,et stabunt simul.and they will stand together.
Congregamini,Gather together, omnes vos,all of you,et audite:and listen.quis de eis annuntiavit hæc?Who among them has announced these things?Dominus dilexit eum,The Lord has loved him;faciet voluntatem suam in Babylone,he will do his will with Babylon,et brachium suum in Chaldæis.and his arm is upon the Chaldeans.
Ego,I am,ego locutus sum,I have spoken,et vocavi eum;and I have called him.adduxi eum,I have led him forward,et directa est via ejus.and his way has been straight.
Accedite ad me et audite hoc:Draw near to me, and listen to this.non a principio in abscondito locutus sum:From the beginning, I have not spoken in secret.ex tempore antequam fieret,From the time before it happened, ibi eram:I was there.et nunc Dominus Deus misit me,And now, the Lord God has sent me,et spiritus ejus.and his Spirit.
Hæc dicit Dominus,Thus says the Lord, redemptor tuus, Sanctus Israël:your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:Ego Dominus Deus tuus,I am the Lord, your God,docens te utilia, who teaches you beneficial things, gubernans te in via qua ambulas.who guides you in the way that you walk.
Utinam attendisses mandata mea:If only you had paid attention to my commandments!facta fuisset sicut flumen pax tua,Your peace would have been like a river,et justitia tua sicut gurgites maris:and your justice would have been like the waves of the sea,
et fuisset quasi arena semen tuum, and your offspring would have been like the sand,et stirps uteri tui ut lapilli ejus;and the stock from your loins would have been like its stones.non interissetHis name would not have passed away,et non fuisset attritum nomen ejus a facie mea.nor would it have been worn away before my face.
Egredimini de Babylone,Depart from Babylon!fugite a Chaldæis,Flee from the Chaldeans!in voce exsultationis annuntiate:Announce it with a voice of exultation.auditum facite hoc,Cause it to be heard,et efferte illud usque ad extrema terræ.and carry it even to the ends of the earth.Dicite:Say:Redemit Dominus servum suum Jacob.“The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob.”
Non sitierunt in deserto,They did not thirst in the desert, cum educeret eos:when he led them out.aquam de petra produxit eis,He produced water from the rock for them.et scidit petram,For he split the rock,et fluxerunt aquæ.and the waters flowed out.
Non est pax impiis,“There is no peace for the impious,”dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
