Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Quis est hic liber repudii matris vestræ,What is this bill of divorce for your mother, quo dimisi eam? aut quis est creditor meus,by which I have dismissed her? Or who is my creditor, cui vendidi vos?to whom I have sold you?Ecce in iniquitatibus vestris venditi estis,Behold, you were sold by your iniquities,et in sceleribus vestris dimisi matrem vestram.and I have dismissed your mother for your wickedness.
Quia veni,For I arrived,et non erat vir;and there was no man.vocavi,I called out,et non erat qui audiret.and there was no one who would hear.Numquid abbreviataHas my hand been shortened and become small,et parvula facta est manus mea,so that I am unable to redeem?ut non possim redimere?Or is there no power in me to deliver?aut non est in me virtus ad liberandum?Behold,Ecce in increpatione mea desertum faciam mare,at my rebuke, ponam flumina in siccum;I will make the sea into a desert.computrescent pisces sine aqua,I will turn rivers into dry land.et morientur in siti. The fish will rot for lack of water and will die of thirst.
Induam cælos tenebris,I will clothe the heavens in darkness,et saccum ponam operimentum eorum.and I will make sackcloth their covering.
Dominus dedit mihi linguam eruditam,The Lord has given me a learned tongue,ut sciam sustentare eum qui lassus est verbo.so that I would know how to uphold with a word, one who has weakened.Erigit mane,He rises in the morning, mane erigit mihi aurem,he rises to my ear in the morning,ut audiam quasi magistrum.so that I may heed him like a teacher.
Dominus Deus aperuit mihi aurem,The Lord God has opened my ear.ego autem non contradico:And I do not contradict him.retrorsum non abii.I have not turned back.
Corpus meum dedi percutientibus,I have given my body to those who strike me,et genas meas vellentibus;and my cheeks to those who plucked them.faciem meam non averti ab increpantibus et conspuentibus in me.I have not averted my face from those who rebuked me and who spit on me.
Dominus Deus auxiliator meus,The Lord God is my helper. Therefore, ideo non sum confusus;I have not been confounded.ideo posui faciem meam ut petram durissimam,Therefore, I have set my face like a very hard rock,et scio quoniam non confundar.and I know that I will not be confounded.
Juxta est qui justificat me;He who justifies me is near.quis contradicet mihi?Who will speak against me?Stemus simul;Let us stand together.quis est adversarius meus?Who is my adversary?accedat ad me.Let him approach me.
Ecce Dominus Deus auxiliator meus;Behold, the Lord God is my helper.quis est qui condemnet me?Who is the one who would condemn me?Ecce omnes quasi vestimentum conterentur;Behold, they will all be worn away like a garment;tinea comedet eos.the moth will devour them.
Quis ex vobis timens Dominum,Who is there among you who fears the Lord?audiens vocem servi sui?Who hears the voice of his servant?Qui ambulavit in tenebris,Who has walked in darkness,et non est lumen ei,and there is no light in him?speret in nomine Domini,Let him hope in the name of the Lord,et innitatur super Deum suum.and let him lean upon his God.
Ecce vos omnes accendentes ignem,Behold, accincti flammis:all you who kindle a fire, ambulate in lumine ignis vestri, wrapped in flames:et in flammis quas succendistis;walk in the light of your fire and in the flames that you have kindled.de manu mea factum est hoc vobis:This has been done to you by my hand.in doloribus dormietis. You will sleep in anguish.
