Ecce non est abbreviata manus Domini,Behold, the hand of the Lord has not been shortened,ut salvare nequeat,so that it cannot save, neque aggravata est auris ejus, and his ear has not been blocked,ut non exaudiat.so that it cannot hear.

Sed iniquitates vestræ diviserunt inter vos et Deum vestrum; But your iniquities have made a division between you and your God,et peccata vestra absconderunt faciem ejus a vobis, and your sins have concealed his face from you,ne exaudiret.so that he would not hear.

Manus enim vestræ pollutæ sunt sanguine,For your hands have been polluted by blood,et digiti vestri iniquitate;and your fingers by iniquity.labia vestra locuta sunt mendacium,Your lips have spoken lies,et lingua vestra iniquitatem fatur.and your tongue utters iniquity.

Non est qui invocet justitiam,There is no one who calls for justice, neque est qui judicet vere:and there is no one who judges truly.sed confidunt in nihilo,For they trust in nothing,et loquuntur vanitates;and they speak emptiness.conceperunt laborem,They have conceived hardship,et pepererunt iniquitatem.and they have given birth to iniquity.

Ova aspidum ruperunt,They have ruptured the eggs of asps,et telas araneæ texuerunt.and they have woven the webs of spiders.Qui comederit de ovis eorum,Whoever will eat of their eggs will die.morietur; et quod confotum est, erumpet in regulum. For what has been incubated will hatch into a king snake.

Telæ eorum non erunt in vestimentum,Their weavings will not be for clothing, neque operientur operibus suis;nor will they cover themselves with their handiwork.opera eorum opera inutilia,Their works are useless things,et opus iniquitatis in manibus eorum.and the work of iniquity is in their hands.

Pedes eorum ad malum currunt,Their feet run to evil,et festinant ut effundant sanguinem innocentem;and they rush to shed innocent blood.cogitationes eorum cogitationes inutiles:Their thoughts are useless thoughts;vastitas et contritio in viis eorum.devastation and destruction are in their ways.

Viam pacis nescierunt, et non est judicium in gressibus eorum; They have not known the way of peace, and there is no judgment in their steps.semitæ eorum incurvatæ sunt eis:Their paths have become crooked for them.omnis qui calcat in eis, ignorat pacem.Anyone who treads in them knows no peace.

Propter hoc elongatum est judicium a nobis,Because of this, judgment is far from us,et non apprehendet nos justitia.and justice will not take hold of us.Exspectavimus lucem,We waited for light,et ecce tenebræ;and behold, darkness;splendorem, et in tenebris ambulavimus.we waited for brightness, and we walked in darkness.

Palpavimus sicut cæci parietem,We groped for the wall, like one who is blind,et quasi absque oculis attrectavimus:and we felt our way, like one without eyes.impegimus meridie quasi in tenebris; We stumbled at midday, as if in darkness;in caliginosis quasi mortui.and in darkness, as if in death.

Rugiemus quasi ursi omnes,We will all roar like bears,et quasi columbæ meditantes gememus:and we will sigh like despondent doves.exspectavimus judicium,We hoped for judgment,et non est;and there is none;salutem, for salvation,et elongata est a nobis.and it is far from us.

Multiplicatæ sunt enim iniquitates nostræ coram te,For our iniquities have been multiplied in your sight,et peccata nostra responderunt nobis, and our sins have answered us.quia scelera nostra nobiscumFor our wickedness is with us,et iniquitates nostras cognovimus.and we have acknowledged our iniquities:

Peccaresinning and lying against the Lord.et mentiri contra Dominum,And we have turned away,et aversi sumus ne iremus post tergum Dei nostri, not so as to go after our God,ut loqueremur calumniamand so that we were speaking calumny and transgression.et transgressionem; We have conceived, concepimusand spoken from the heart,et locuti sumus de corde verba mendacii.words of falsehood.

Et conversum est retrorsum judicium,And judgment has been turned backwards,et justitia longe stetit, and justice has stood far away.quia corruit in platea veritas,For truth has fallen down in the street,et æquitas non potuit ingredi.and fairness was not able to enter.

Et facta est veritas in oblivionem,And the truth has gone into oblivion.et qui recessit a malo, prædæ patuit. And he who withdraws from evil endures plunder.Et vidit Dominus,And the Lord saw this,et malum apparuit in oculis ejus, and it seemed evil in his eyes.quia non est judicium. For there is no judgment.

Et vidit quia non est vir,And he saw that there was no good man.et aporiatus est, quia non est qui occurrat; And he was astonished that there was no one to meet him.et salvavit sibi brachium suum,And his own arm brought salvation to him,et justitia ejus ipsa confirmavit eum.and his own justice strengthened him.

Indutus est justitia ut lorica,He clothed himself with justice as with a breastplate,et galea salutis in capite ejus;and with a helmet of salvation upon his head.indutus est vestimentis ultionis,He put on the vestments of vengeance,et opertus est quasi pallio zeli:and he was covered with zeal as with a cloak.

sicut ad vindictam quasi ad retributionem indignationis hostibus suis,This was for vindication, as a repayment of indignation to his adversaries,et vicissitudinem inimicis suis;and as a sudden reversal for his enemies.insulis vicem reddet. He will repay the islands in their turn.

Et timebunt qui ab occidente nomen Domini,And those from the west will fear the name of the Lord,et qui ab ortu solis gloriam ejus, and those from the rising of the sun will fear his glory, cum venerit quasi fluvius violentus quem spiritus Domini cogit;when he arrives like a violent river, which the Spirit of the Lord urges on.

et venerit Sion redemptor,And the Redeemer will arrive in Zion,et eis qui redeunt ab iniquitate in Jacob, and to those who return from the iniquity within Jacob, dicit Dominus.says the Lord.

Hoc fœdus meum cum eis,This is my pact with them, dicit Dominus:says the Lord.spiritus meus qui est in te,My Spirit is within you, and my words,et verba mea quæ posui in ore tuo, which I have put in your mouth, non recedent de ore tuo, will not withdraw from your mouth,et de ore seminis tui,nor from the mouth of your offspring,et de ore seminis seminis tui, dicit Dominus, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring, says the Lord, amodo et usque in sempiternum.from this moment, and even forever.
