Surge, illuminare,Rise up to be illuminated,Jerusalem,O Jerusalem!quia venit lumen tuum,For your light has arrived,et gloria Domini super te orta est.and the glory of the Lord has risen over you.

Quia ecce tenebræ operient terram,For behold, darkness will cover the earth,et caligo populos; super te autem orietur Dominus, and thick darkness will cover the peoples. Then the Lord will rise above you,et gloria ejus in te videbitur.and his glory will be seen in you.

Et ambulabunt gentes in lumine tuo,And the nations will walk in your light,et reges in splendore ortus tui.and the kings will walk by the splendor of your rising.

Leva in circuitu oculos tuos,Lift up your eyes all around and see!et vide:All these have been gathered together;omnes isti congregati sunt, they have arrived before you.venerunt tibi;Your sons will arrive from far away, filii tui de longe venient et filiæ tuæ de latere surgent.and your daughters will rise up from your side.

Tunc videbis,Then you will see,et afflues;and you will overflow, mirabitur et dilatabitur cor tuum:and your heart will be amazed and expanded.quando conversa fuerit ad te multitudo maris; When the multitude of the sea will have been converted to you, fortitudo gentium venerit tibi.the strength of the nations will approach you.

Inundatio camelorum operiet te,A multitude of camels will inundate you:dromedarii Madian et Epha;the dromedaries from Midian and Ephah.omnes de Saba venient,All those from Sheba will arrive, aurum et thus deferentes, carrying gold and frankincense,et laudem Domino annuntiantes.and announcing praise to the Lord.

Omne pecus Cedar congregabitur tibi; All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together before you;arietes Nabaioth ministrabunt tibi:the rams of Nebaioth will minister to you.offerentur super placabili altari meo,They will be offered upon my pleasing altar,et domum majestatis meæ glorificabo.and I will glorify the house of my majesty.

Qui sunt isti qui ut nubes volant,Who are these ones,et quasi columbæ ad fenestras suas?who fly like the clouds and like doves to their windows?

Me enim insulæ exspectant,For the islands await me,et naves maris in principio, and the ships of the sea in the beginning,ut adducam filios tuos de longe;so that I may lead your sons from far away, argentum eorum, their silveret aurum eorum cum eis,and their gold with them, nomini Domini Dei tui,to the name of the Lord your Godet Sancto Israël,and to the Holy One of Israel.quia glorificavit te.For he has glorified you.

Et ædificabunt filii peregrinorum muros tuos,And the sons of sojourners will build up your walls,et reges eorum ministrabunt tibi;and their kings will minister to you.in indignatione enim mea percussi te,For in my wrath, I have struck you.et in reconciliatione mea misertus sum tui.And in my reconciliation, I have taken pity on you.

Et aperientur portæ tuæ jugiter; And your gates will be open continually.die ac nocte non claudentur,They will not be closed day or night,ut afferatur ad te fortitudo gentium,so that the strength of the nations may be brought before you,et reges earum adducantur.and their kings may be lead in.

Gens enim et regnum quod non servierit tibi peribit,For the nation and the kingdom that will not serve you will perish.et gentes solitudine vastabuntur. And the Gentiles will be devastated by solitude.

Gloria Libani ad te veniet, abies,The glory of Lebanon will arrive before you,et buxus, et pinus simul ad ornandum locum sanctificationis meæ;the fir tree and the box tree and the pine tree together, to adorn the place of my sanctification.et locum pedum meorum glorificabo. And I will glorify the place of my feet.

Et venient ad te curvi filii eorum qui humiliaverunt te,And the sons of those who humiliate you will approach and will bow down before you.et adorabunt vestigia pedum tuorum omnes qui detrahebant tibi:And all who detract you will reverence the path of your feet.et vocabunt te civitatem Domini,And they will call you the City of the Lord,Sion Sancti Israël.the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Pro eo quod fuisti derelicta et odio habita,For though you were forsaken, and held in hatred,et non erat qui per te transiret:and there was no one who would pass near you, ponam te in superbiam sæculorum,I will establish you as an everlasting glory, gaudium in generationem et generationem:as a gladness from generation to generation.

et suges lac gentium,And you will drink the milk of the Gentiles,et mamilla regum lactaberis;and you will be nursed at the breasts of kings,et scies quia ego Dominus salvans te,and you will know that I am the Lord,et redemptor tuus, your Savior and your Redeemer,Fortis Jacob.the Strong One of Jacob.

Pro ære afferam aurum,In exchange for brass,et pro ferro afferam argentum,I will bring gold; and in exchange for iron,et pro lignis æs,I will bring silver;et pro lapidibus ferrum:and for wood, brass; and for stones,et ponam visitationem tuam pacem, iron. And I will make your visitation into peace,et præpositos tuos justitiam.and your leaders into justice.

Non audietur ultra iniquitas in terra tua;Iniquity will no longer be heard in your land, vastitas et contritio in terminis tuis:nor devastation and destruction in your borders.et occupabit salus muros tuos,And salvation will occupy your walls,et portas tuas laudatio.and praise will occupy your gates.

Non erit tibi amplius sol ad lucendum per diem, nec splendor lunæ illuminabit te:The sun will no longer be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon illuminate you.sed erit tibi Dominus in lucem sempiternam,Instead, the Lord will be an everlasting light for you,et Deus tuus in gloriam tuam.and your God will be your glory.

Non occidet ultra sol tuus,Your sun will no longer set,et luna tua non minuetur, and your moon will not diminish.quia erit tibi Dominus in lucem sempiternam,For the Lord will be an everlasting light for you,et complebuntur dies luctus tui.and the days of your mourning will be completed.

Populus autem tuus omnes justi; And your people will all be just.in perpetuum hæreditabunt terram:They will inherit the earth in perpetuity, germen plantationis meæ,the seedling of my planting, opus manus meæ ad glorificandum.the work of my hand, so as to glorify me.

Minimus erit in mille,The least will become a thousand,et parvulus in gentem fortissimam.and a little one will become a very strong nation. I, the Lord,Ego Dominus in tempore ejus subito faciam istud.will accomplish this, suddenly, in its time.
