Peccatum Juda scriptum est stylo ferreo in ungue adamantino,“The sin of Judah has been written with a pen of iron and a point of diamond.exaratum super latitudinem cordis eorum, et in cornibus ararum eorum. It has been engraved upon the breadth of their heart and upon the horns of their shrines.
Cum recordati fuerint filii eorum ararum suarum,And their sons make a remembrance of their shrines,et lucorum suorum, and their sacred groves, lignorumque frondentium, in montibus excelsis, and their leafy trees on high mountains,
sacrificantes in agro:by sacrificing in the field.fortitudinem tuam, et omnes thesauros tuos in direptionem dabo; And so, I will give over your strength and all your treasures to be despoiled, excelsa tua propter peccata in universis finibus tuis.along with your exalted places of sin, within all your borders.
Et relinqueris sola ab hæreditate tua,And you will be left behind without your inheritance, quam dedi tibi, which I gave to you.et servire te faciam inimicis tuis in terra quam ignoras:And I will cause you to serve your enemies in a land that you do not know.quoniam ignem succendisti in furore meo:For you have kindled a fire in my fury;usque in æternum ardebit.it shall burn, even unto eternity.”
Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Maledictus homo qui confidit in homine,“Cursed is a man who trusts in man,et ponit carnem brachium suum, and who establishes what is flesh as his right arm,et a Domino recedit cor ejus.and whose heart withdraws from the Lord.
Erit enim quasi myricæ in deserto,For he will be like a saltcedar tree in the desert.et non videbit cum venerit bonum:And he will not perceive it, when what is good has arrived.sed habitabit in siccitate in deserto,Instead, he will live in dryness, in a desert,in terra salsuginis et inhabitabili.in a land of salt, which is uninhabitable.
Benedictus vir qui confidit in Domino,Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,et erit Dominus fiducia ejus.for the Lord will be his confidence.
Et erit quasi lignum quod transplantatur super aquas,And he will be like a tree planted beside waters, quod ad humorem mittit radices suas, which sends out its roots to moist soil.et non timebit cum venerit æstus:And it will not fear when the heat arrives.et erit folium ejus viride,And its leaves will be green.et in tempore siccitatis non erit sollicitum,And in the time of drought, it will not be anxious, nec aliquando desinet facere fructum.nor will it cease at any time to bear fruit.
Pravum est cor omnium,The heart is depraved above all things,et inscrutabile:and it is unsearchable, quis cognoscet illud?who can know it?
Ego Dominus scrutans cor, et probans renes:I am the Lord, who examines the heart and tests the temperament, qui do unicuique juxta viam suam, et juxta fructum adinventionum suarum.who gives to each one according to his way and according to the fruit of his own decisions.
Perdix fovit quæ non peperit:A partridge has hatched eggs that she did not lay;fecit divitias, et non in judicio:a man has gathered riches, but without judgment.in dimidio dierum suorum derelinquet eas,In the midst of his days, he will leave it all behind,et in novissimo suo erit insipiens.and he will be foolish concerning his very end.”
Solium gloriæ altitudinis a principio,“A highlocus sanctificationis nostræ.and glorious throne is the place of our sanctification from the beginning.
Exspectatio Israël,O Lord,Domine,Hope of Israel:omnes qui te derelinquunt confundentur:all who forsake you will be confounded.recedentes a te,Those who withdraw from you will be written into the earth.in terra scribentur,For they have abandoned the Lord, quoniam dereliquerunt venam aquarum viventium Dominum.the Source of living waters.
Sana me,Heal me,Domine,O Lord,et sanabor:and I will be healed.salvum me fac,Save me,et salvus ero:and I will be saved.quoniam laus mea tu es.For you are my praise.
Ecce ipsi dicunt ad me:Behold, they themselves are saying to me:Ubi est verbum Domini?‘Where is the word of the Lord?veniat:Let it come.’
et ego non sum turbatus, te pastorem sequens:But I am not troubled; I am following you as my shepherd.et diem hominis non desideravi,And I have not desired the day of man,tu scis:as you know.quod egressum est de labiis meis, rectum in conspectu tuo fuit. That which has gone forth from my lips has been right in your sight.
Non sis tu mihi formidini:May you not be a dread to me.spes mea tu in die afflictionis. You are my hope in the day of affliction.
Confundantur qui me persequuntur,May those who persecute me be confounded,et non confundar ego:but may I not be confounded.paveant illi,May they be fearful,et non paveam ego:and may I not be fearful.induc super eos diem afflictionis,Lead over them the day of affliction,et duplici contritione contere eos.and crush them with a double destruction.”
Hæc dicit Dominus ad me:Thus says the Lord to me:Vade,“Go,et sta in porta filiorum populi, and stand at the gate of the sons of the people, per quam ingrediuntur reges Juda, through which the kings of Judah enteret egrediuntur, and depart,et in cunctis portis Jerusalem:and at all the gates of Jerusalem.
et dices ad eos:And you shall say to them:Audite verbum Domini,Listen to the word of the Lord, reges Juda,O kings of Judah,et omnis Juda, and all of Judah, cunctique habitatores Jerusalem, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, qui ingredimini per portas istas.who enter through these gates.”
Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Custodite animas vestras,“Guard your souls,et nolite portare pondera in die sabbati, and do not choose to carry heavy things on the day of the Sabbath, nec inferatis per portas Jerusalem:nor should you carry these things through the gates of Jerusalem.
et nolite ejicere onera de domibus vestris in die sabbati,And do not be willing to cast burdens out of your houses on the day of the Sabbath,et omne opus non facietis:nor should you do any work.sanctificate diem sabbati,Sanctify the day of the Sabbath, sicut præcepi patribus vestris.just as I instructed your fathers.
Et non audierunt,But they did not listen, nec inclinaverunt aurem suam:nor did they incline their ear.sed induraverunt cervicem suam,Instead,ne audirent me,they hardened their neck,et ne acciperent disciplinam.lest they listen to me and receive discipline.
Et erit:And this shall be:si audieritis me,If you listen to me,dicit Dominus, says the Lord,ut non inferatis onera per portas civitatis hujus in die sabbati:so that you do not carry in burdens through the gates of this city on the day of the Sabbath,et si sanctificaveritis diem sabbati, and if you sanctify the day of the Sabbath,ne faciatis in eo omne opus:so that you do not do work in it,
ingredientur per portas civitatis hujus reges et principes, then there will enter through the gates of this city:sedentes super solium David, kings and princes,et ascendentes in curribus et equis, sitting on the throne of David, ipsi et principes eorum, and riding on chariots and horses, viri Juda, they and their princes,et habitatores Jerusalem:the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.et habitabitur civitas hæc in sempiternum. And this city will be inhabited forever.
Et venient de civitatibus Juda,And they will arrive from the cities of Judahet de circuitu Jerusalem, and from all around Jerusalem,et de terra Benjamin, and from the land of Benjamin,et de campestribus, and from the plains,et de montuosis, and from the mountainous regions,et ab austro, and from the south, portantes holocaustum, carrying holocausts,et victimam, and victims,et sacrificium, and sacrifices,et thus, and frankincense.et inferent oblationem in domum Domini. And they will carry an oblation into the house of the Lord.
Si autem non audieritis me ut sanctificetis diem sabbati,But if you will not listen to me, to sanctify the day of the Sabbath,et ne portetis onus, and not to carry burdens,et ne inferatis per portas Jerusalem in die sabbati, and not to bring these things through the gates of Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath, succendam ignem in portis ejus, then I will kindle a fire at its gates,et devorabit domos Jerusalem, and it will devour the houses of Jerusalem,et non extinguetur.and it will not be extinguished.”
