Et factum est in anno illo,And it happened in that year,in principio regni Sedeciæ regis Juda,in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah,in anno quarto, the king of Judah,in mense quinto,in the fourth year, dixit ad me Hananias filius Azur,in the fifth month, that Hananiah, the son of Azur, propheta de Gabaon, the prophet from Gibeon, spoke to me,in domo Domini,in the house of the Lord, coram sacerdotibus et omni populo,in the sight of the priests and all the people, dicens:saying:
Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum,“Thus says the Lord of hosts,Deus Israël:the God of Israel:Contrivi jugum regis Babylonis.I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
Adhuc duo anni dierum,There are still two years of days,et ego referri faciam ad locum istum omnia vasa domus Domini, and then I will cause to be carried back to this place all the vessels of the house of the Lord that Nebuchadnezzar,quæ tulit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis de loco isto, the king of Babylon,et transtulit ea in Babylonem.took from this place and carried away to Babylon.
Et Jechoniam filium Joakim regem Juda,And I will return to this place: Jeconiah,et omnem transmigrationem Juda, the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, qui ingressi sunt in Babylonem, and all those taken captive from Judah, ego convertam ad locum istum, who were brought into Babylon, ait Dominus:says the Lord.conteram enim jugum regis Babylonis. For I will crush the yoke of the king of Babylon.”
Et dixit Jeremias propheta ad Hananiam prophetam,And Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Hananiah the prophet,in oculis sacerdotum, before the eyes of the priestset in oculis omnis populi qui stabat in domo Domini:and before the eyes of all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord.
et ait Jeremias propheta:And Jeremiah the prophet said:Amen!“Amen, sic faciat Dominus:may the Lord accomplish this;suscitet Dominus verba tua quæ prophetasti, may the Lord act upon your words, which you have prophesied,ut referantur vasa in domum Domini,so that the vessels may be carried back to the house of the Lord,et omnis transmigratio de Babylone ad locum istum.and so that all those taken captive may return from Babylon to this place.
Verumtamen audi verbum hoc quod ego loquor in auribus tuis, et in auribus universi populi:Yet truly, listen to this word, which I am speaking to your ears and to the ears of all the people.
prophetæ qui fuerunt ante meThe prophets,et ante te,who were before me and before you,ab initio, from the beginning,et prophetaverunt super terras multashave prophesied over many lands and over great kingdoms,et super regna magna de prælio, about war,et de afflictione, and about affliction,et de fame:and about famine.
propheta qui vaticinatus est pacem,The prophet who has predicted peace, cum venerit verbum ejus,if his word will occur, scietur propheta quem misit Dominus in veritate.then the prophet will be known as one whom the Lord has sent in truth.”
Et tulit Hananias propheta catenam de collo Jeremiæ prophetæ,And Hananiah the prophet took the chain from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet,et confregit eam.and he broke it.
Et ait Hananias in conspectu omnis populi,And Hananiah spoke in the sight of all the people, dicens:saying:Hæc dicit Dominus:“Thus says the Lord:Sic confringam jugum Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis,So shall I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, post duos annos dierum de collo omnium gentium.after two years of days, from the neck of all the people.”
Et abiit Jeremias propheta in viam suam. And Jeremiah the prophet went his own way.Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam,And after Hananiah the prophet had broken the chain from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, postquam confregit Hananias propheta catenam de collo Jeremiæ prophetæ,the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, dicens:saying:
Vade,“Go,et dices Hananiæ:and you shall say to Hananiah:Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Catenas ligneas contrivisti,You have broken chains of wood,et facies pro eis catenas ferreas.and so you will make for them chains of iron.
Quia hæc dicit Dominus exercituum,For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:Deus Israël: Jugum ferreum posui super collum cunctarum gentium istarum,I have placed a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, so that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar,ut serviant Nabuchodonosor regi Babylonis, the king of Babylon. And they shall serve him.et servient ei: insuper et bestias terræ dedi ei.Moreover, I have given to him even the beasts of the earth.”
Et dixit Jeremias propheta ad Hananiam prophetam:And Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet:Audi,“Listen,Hanania:Hananiah!non misit te Dominus,The Lord has not sent you,et tu confidere fecisti populum istum in mendacio.and so you have caused this people to trust in a lie.
Idcirco hæc dicit Dominus:For this reason, thus says the Lord:Ecce ego mittam te a facie terræ:Behold, I will send you away from the face of the earth.hoc anno morieris:This year, you shall die.adversum enim Dominum locutus es.For you have spoken against the Lord.”
Et mortuus est Hananias propheta in anno illo,And Hananiah the prophet died in that year, mense septimo.in the seventh month.
