Hoc verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam a Domino,This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, dicens:saying:
Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël,“Thus says the Lord, dicens:the God of Israel,Scribe tibi omnia verba quæ locutus sum ad te,saying:in libro. You shall write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.
Ecce enim dies veniunt,For behold, the days are approaching, dicit Dominus, says the Lord,et convertam conversionem populi mei Israël et Juda, when I will convert the turning away of my people, Israel and Judah, ait Dominus:says the Lord.et convertam eos ad terram quam dedi patribus eorum,And I will return them to the land which I gave to their fathers,et possidebunt eam.and they will possess it.”
Et hæc verba quæ locutus est Dominus ad Israël et ad Judam:And these are the words which the Lord has spoken to Israel and to Judah:
Quoniam hæc dicit Dominus:For thus says the Lord:Vocem terroris audivimus:‘We have heard a voice of terror.formido,There is dread,et non est pax.and there is no peace.’
Interrogate,Inquire and see,et videte si generat masculus:does a male give birth?quare ergo vidi omnis viri manum super lumbum suum,Then why have I seen every man with his hand on his lower back, quasi parturientis, like a woman bearing a child?et conversæ sunt universæ facies in auruginem? And why have all of their faces turned pale?
Væ!Woe!quia magna dies illa,For that day is great, nec est similis ejus:and there is nothing like it.tempusque tribulationis est Jacob,For it is the time of tribulation for Jacob,et ex ipso salvabitur.but he will be saved from it.
Et erit in die illa,And this shall be in that day,ait Dominus exercituum:says the Lord of hosts:conteram jugum ejus de collo tuo,I will crush his yoke from your neck,et vincula ejus dirumpam, and I will break open his bands.et non dominabuntur ei amplius alieni:And strangers will no longer rule over him.
sed servient Domino Deo suo,Instead, they will serve the Lord their God,et David regi suo,and David their king, quem suscitabo eis.whom I will raise up for them.
Tu ergo ne timeas,Therefore, O my servant Jacob, serve meus Jacob, you should not be afraid, ait Dominus, says the Lord, neque paveas, Israël:and you should not be frightened, quia ecce ego salvabo te de terra longinqua,O Israel. For behold, I will save you from a far away land,et semen tuum de terra captivitatis eorum:and your offspring from the land of their captivity.et revertetur Jacob, et quiescet,And Jacob will return and have rest,et cunctis affluet bonis, and he shall flow with every good thing.et non erit quem formidet:And there will be no one for him to dread.
quoniam tecum ego sum,For I am with you, says the Lord, ait Dominus, ut salvem te.so that I may save you.Faciam enim consummationem in cunctis gentibus in quibus dispersi te:For I will bring about the consummation of all the nations, among which I have scattered you.te autem non faciam in consummationem:But I will not bring about your consummation.sed castigabo te in judicio,Instead, I will chastise you in judgment,ut non videaris tibi innoxius.so that you will not seem innocent to yourself.”
Quia hæc dicit Dominus:For thus says the Lord:Insanabilis fractura tua;“Your fracture is incurable;pessima plaga tua:your wound is very serious.
non est qui judicet judicium tuum ad alligandum:There is no one who may judge your judgment, so as to bandage it;curationum utilitas non est tibi.there is no useful treatment for you.
Omnes amatores tui obliti sunt tui,All your lovers have forgotten you, teque non quærent:and they will not seek you.plaga enim inimici percussi te castigatione crudeli:For I have wounded you with the strike of an enemy, with a cruel chastisement.propter multitudinem iniquitatis tuæ dura facta sunt peccata tua.Your sins have become hardened because of the multitude of your iniquities.
Quid clamas super contritione tua?Why do you cry out over your affliction?insanabilis est dolor tuus:Your pain is incurable.propter multitudinem iniquitatis tuæ, et propter dura peccata tua, feci hæc tibi.I have done these things to you because of the multitude of your iniquity and because of your hardened sins.
Propterea omnes qui comedunt te devorabuntur,Because of this, all those who devour you, will be devoured.et universi hostes tui in captivitatem ducentur:And all your enemies will be led into captivity.et qui te vastant vastabuntur,And those who devastate you, will be devastated.cunctosque prædatores tuos dabo in prædam. And all those who prey upon you, I will offer as a prey.
Obducam enim cicatricem tibi,For I will close up your scar,et a vulneribus tuis sanabo te,and I will heal you of your wounds, dicit Dominus.says the Lord.Quia ejectam vocaverunt te,For they have called you an outcast,Sion:O Zion:hæc est, quæ non habebat requirentem.‘This is she who has no one asking for her.’”
Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Ecce ego convertam conversionem tabernaculorum Jacob,“Behold, I will turn back the turning away of the tabernacles of Jacob,et tectis ejus miserebor:and I will take pity on his roofs.et ædificabitur civitas in excelso suo,And the city will be built up in her heights,et templum juxta ordinem suum fundabitur:and the temple will be founded according to its order.
et egredietur de eis laus,And praise will go forth from them, voxque ludentium.with the voice of those who play.Et multiplicabo eos,And I will multiply them,et non minuentur:and they will not be lessened.et glorificabo eos,And I will glorify them,et non attenuabuntur.and they will not be weakened.
Et erunt filii ejus sicut a principio,And their sons will be as in the beginning.et cœtus ejus coram me permanebit,And their assembly will remain in my sight.et visitabo adversum omnes qui tribulant eum.And I will visit against all those who trouble them.
Et erit dux ejus ex eo,And their ruler will be one of their own.et princeps de medio ejus producetur:And their prince will be led forward from their midst.et applicabo eum,And I will draw him near,et accedet ad me.and he will cling to me.Quis enim iste est qui applicet cor suum ut appropinquet mihi? For who is the one who applies his heart, so that he may draw near to me,ait Dominus:says the Lord?
et eritis mihi in populum,And you shall be my people,et ego ero vobis in Deum.and I will be your God.”
Ecce turbo Domini,Behold the whirlwind of the Lord, furor egrediens, his fury going forth, procella ruens:a destroying storm!in capite impiorum conquiescet. It will rest upon the head of the impious.
Non avertet iram indignationis Dominus,The Lord will not turn back the wrath of his indignation, donec faciatuntil he has accomplished and completed the plan of his heart.et compleat cogitationem cordis sui:In the last days,in novissimo dierum intelligetis ea.you shall understand these things.
