In tempore illo,“In that time, dicit Dominus, says the Lord, ero Deus universis cognationibus Israël,I will be the God of all the families of Israel,et ipsi erunt mihi in populum.and they will be my people.”

Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Invenit gratiam in deserto populus qui remanserat a gladio:“The people who had remained after the sword, found grace in the desert.vadet ad requiem suam Israël.Israel will go to his rest.”

Longe Dominus apparuit mihi. The Lord appeared to me from a distance:Et in caritate perpetua dilexi te:“And I have loved you in perpetual charity.ideo attraxi te,Therefore, showing pity, miserans.I have drawn you.

Rursumque ædificabo te,And I will build you up again.et ædificaberis,And you shall be built up,virgo Israël:O virgin of Israel.adhuc ornaberis tympanis tuis,Still shall you be adorned with your timbrels,et egredieris in choro ludentium.and still shall you go forth to the singing of those who play.

Adhuc plantabis vineas in montibus Samariæ:Still shall you plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria.plantabunt plantantes,The planters will plant,et donec tempus veniat, non vindemiabunt.and they will not gather the vintage until the time arrives.

Quia erit dies in qua clamabunt custodes in monte Ephraim:For there will be a day on which the guardians on mount Ephraim will cry out:Surgite,‘Arise!et ascendamus in Sion ad Dominum Deum nostrum. And let us ascend on Zion to the Lord our God!’”

Quia hæc dicit Dominus:For thus says the Lord:Exsultate in lætitia, Jacob,“Exult in the joy of Jacob,et hinnite contra caput gentium: personate, and neigh before the head of the Gentiles. Shout,et canite, and sing,et dicite: Salva, and say: ‘O Lord,Domine, populum tuum, save your people, reliquias Israël.the remnant of Israel!’

Ecce ego adducam eos de terra aquilonis,Behold,et congregabo eos ab extremis terræ:I will lead them from the land of the north, inter quos erunt cæcusand I will gather them from the ends of the earth.et claudus,Among them will be the blind and the lame,prægnansshe who is with child,et pariens simul, together with she who is giving birth:cœtus magnus revertentium huc.a great assembly returning to this place.

In fletu venient,They will approach with weeping.et in misericordia reducam eos:And I will lead them back with mercy.et adducam eos per torrentes aquarum in via recta,And I will lead them through the torrents of water, by an upright way,et non impingent in ea,and they will not stumble in it.quia factus sum Israëli pater,For I have become Father to Israel,et Ephraim primogenitus meus est.and Ephraim is my firstborn.”

Audite verbum Domini,Listen to the word of the Lord, gentes,O Gentiles,et annuntiate in insulis quæ procul sunt, and announce it amid the islands that are far away,et dicite:and say:Qui dispersit Israël congregabit eum,“Whoever has scattered Israel will gather him,et custodiet eum sicut pastor gregem suum.and he will guard him as a shepherd guards his flock.”

Redemit enim Dominus Jacob,For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,et liberavit eum de manu potentioris.and he has freed him from the hand of one more powerful.

Et venient,And they will arrive and give praise on Mount Zion.et laudabunt in monte Sion:And they will flow together,et confluent ad bona Domini,to the good things of the Lord, super frumento, over grain,et vino, and wine,et oleo, and oil,et fœtu pecorum et armentorum:and the offspring of cattle and herds.eritque anima eorum quasi hortus irriguus,And their soul will be like an irrigated garden,et ultra non esurient.and they will no longer be hungry.

Tunc lætabitur virgo in choro,Then the virgin will rejoice with singing, juvenes et senes simul:the young and the old together,et convertam luctum eorum in gaudium, and I will turn their mourning into gladness,et consolabor eos, et lætificabo a dolore suo.and I will console them and gladden them after their sorrow.

Et inebriabo animam sacerdotum pinguedine,And I will inebriate the soul of the priests with fatness,et populus meus bonis meis adimplebitur, and my people will be filled with my good things, ait Dominus.says the Lord.”

Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Vox in excelso audita est lamentationis:“A voice has been heard on high: of lamentation, luctus, mourning,et fletus Rachel plorantis filios suos, et nolentis consolari super eis,and weeping; of Rachel crying for her sons and refusing to be consoled over them, quia non sunt.because they are not.”

Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Quiescat vox tua a ploratu,“Let your voice cease from cryinget oculi tui a lacrimis, and your eyes from tears.quia est merces operi tuo,For there is a reward for your work, ait Dominus, says the Lord.et revertentur de terra inimici:And they will return from the land of the enemy.

et est spes novissimis tuis,And there is hope for your very end,ait Dominus, says the Lord.et revertentur filii ad terminos suos. And the sons will return to their own borders.

Audiens audivi Ephraim transmigrantem:Listening, I heard Ephraim going into captivity:Castigasti me,‘You have chastised me,et eruditus sum,and I was instructed, quasi juvenculus indomitus:like a young untamed bull. Convert me,converte me, et convertar, and I shall be converted.quia tu Dominus Deus meus. For you are the Lord my God.

Postquam enim convertisti me,For after you converted me,egi pœnitentiam:I did penance.et postquam ostendisti mihi,And after you revealed to me,percussi femur meum.I struck my thigh.Confusus sum,I am confoundedet erubui, and ashamed.quoniam sustinui opprobrium adolescentiæ meæ.For I have endured the disgrace of my youth.’

Si filius honorabilis mihi Ephraim,Certainly, Ephraim is an honorable son to me;si puer delicatus!surely, he is a tender child.quia ex quo locutus sum de eo,For I will still remember him, adhuc recordabor ejus. Idcirco conturbata sunt viscera mea super eum:as in the time when I first spoke about him. Because my heart is stirred up over him, miserans miserebor ejus, surely I will take pity on him,ait Dominus.says the Lord.

Statue tibi speculam;Establish a watchtower for yourself.pone tibi amaritudines;Place yourself in bitterness.dirige cor tuum in viam rectam in qua ambulasti: revertere,Direct your heart into the upright way, in which you used to walk.virgo Israël,Return, return, revertere ad civitates tuas istas.O virgin of Israel, to these your cities!

Usquequo deliciis dissolveris,How long will you be absorbed in delights, filia vaga?O wandering daughter?quia creavit Dominus novum super terram:For the Lord has created something new upon the earth:femina circumdabit virum.a woman will encompass a man.”

Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum,Thus says the Lord of hosts,Deus Israël:the God of Israel:Adhuc dicent verbum istud in terra Juda“Still they will speak this word in the land of Judah,et in urbibus ejus, and in its cities, cum convertero captivitatem eorum:when I will convert their captivity:Benedicat tibi Dominus,‘May the Lord bless you, pulchritudo justitiæ,the beauty of justice, mons sanctus:the holy mountain.’

et habitabunt in eo Judas et omnes civitates ejus simul,And they will live in it: Judah together with all its cities, agricolæ et minantes greges.the farmer and those who drive the flocks.

Quia inebriavi animam lassam,For I have inebriated the weary soul,et omnem animam esurientem saturavi.and I have satisfied every hungry soul.

Ideo quasi de somno suscitatus sum:Over this, I was awakened, as if from a deep sleep.et vidi,And I saw,et somnus meus dulcis mihi.and my sleep became sweet to me.

Ecce dies veniunt,Behold, the days are approaching, dicit Dominus, et seminabo domum Israël et domum Juda semine hominum et semine jumentorum.says the Lord, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the offspring of men and with the offspring of cattle.

Et sicut vigilavi super eos ut evellerem, et demolirer,And just as I have watched over them, so that I may root up,et dissiparem, and tear down,et disperderem, and scatter, and destroy,et affligerem, and afflict, sic vigilabo super eos ut ædificem et plantem,so will I watch over them, so that I may build and plant them, ait Dominus.says the Lord.

In diebus illis non dicent ultra:In those days, they will no longer say:Patres comederunt uvam acerbam,‘The fathers ate a bitter grape,et dentes filiorum obstupuerunt.and the teeth of the sons have been affected.’

Sed unusquisque in iniquitate sua morietur:Instead, each one will die for his own iniquity.omnis homo qui comederit uvam acerbam,Each man who will have eaten a bitter grape, obstupescent dentes ejus.his own teeth will be affected.

Ecce dies venient,Behold, dicit Dominus, the days are approaching,et feriam domui Israëlsays the Lord,et domui Juda fœdus novum, when I will form a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,

non secundum pactum quod pepigi cum patribus eorum in die qua apprehendi manum eorum ut educerem eos de terra Ægypti, not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand, so as to lead them away from the land of Egypt, pactum quod irritum fecerunt:the covenant which they nullified,et ego dominatus sum eorum, though I was the ruler over them, dicit Dominus.says the Lord.

Sed hoc erit pactum quod feriam cum domo Israël post dies illos,But this will be the covenant that I will form with the house of Israel, after those days, dicit Dominus:says the Lord:dabo legem meam in visceribus eorum,I will give my law to their inner most being,et in corde eorum scribam eam,and I will write it upon their heart.et ero eis in Deum,And I will be their God,et ipsi erunt mihi in populum:and they shall be my people.

et non docebit ultra vir proximum suum et vir fratrem suum,And they will no longer teach, a man his neighbor, and a man his brother, dicens:saying:Cognosce Dominum:‘Know the Lord.’omnes enim cognoscent me, a minimo eorum usque ad maximum,For all will know me, from the littlest of them even to the greatest, ait Dominus:says the Lord.quia propitiabor iniquitati eorum,For I will forgive their iniquity,et peccati eorum non memorabor amplius.and I will no longer remember their sin.

Hæc dicit Dominus qui dat solem in lumine diei,Thus says the Lord, ordinem lunæ et stellarum in lumine noctis:who gives the sun as the light of the day,qui turbat mare, who puts the moon and the stars in order as the light of the night,et sonant fluctus ejus:who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar:Dominus exercituum nomen illi:the Lord of hosts is his name.

Si defecerint leges istæ coram me,If these laws fail in my sight, dicit Dominus, says the Lord, tunc et semen Israël deficiet, then the offspring of Israel will also fail,ut non sit gens coram me cunctis diebus.so that they will not be a people in my sight for all time.”

Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Si mensurari potuerint cæli sursum,“If the heavens above are able to be measured,et investigari fundamenta terræ deorsum, and if the foundations of the earth beneath can be examined,et ego abjiciam universum semen Israël,I also will cast aside all the offspring of Israel, propter omnia quæ fecerunt, because of all that they have done, dicit Dominus.says the Lord.

Ecce dies veniunt,Behold, the days are approaching,dicit Dominus,says the Lord,et ædificabitur civitas Domino, a turre Hananeel usque ad portam anguli.when a city will be built for the Lord from the tower of Hananel, even to the Gate of the Corner;

Et exibit ultra norma mensuræ in conspectu ejus super collem Gareb, and the measuring line will go on even further in his sight, over the hill of Gareb,et circuibit Goatha, and it will encircle Goah

et omnem vallem cadaverum, et cineris, and the entire Valley of dead bodies and ashes,et universam regionem mortis usque ad torrentem Cedron, and the entire region of death, even to the torrent of Kedron,et usque ad angulum portæ equorum orientalis, Sanctum Domini:and to the corner of the Horse Gate to the east. All this will be the holy place of the Lord.non evelletur,It will not be rooted up,et non destruetur ultra in perpetuum.and it will not be torn down, anymore, forever.”
