Et accesserunt omnes principes bellatorum,And all the leaders of the warriors, and Johanan, the son of Kareah,et Johanan filius Caree, and Azariah, the son of Hoshaiah,et Jezonias filius Osaiæ,and the rest of the common people,et reliquum vulgus, a parvo usque ad magnum, from the least even to the greatest, drew near.

dixeruntque ad Jeremiam prophetam:And they said to Jeremiah the prophet:Cadat oratio nostra in conspectu tuo,“Let our supplication fall before your sight.et ora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum tuum,And pray for us to the Lord your God,pro universis reliquiis istis,on behalf of this entire remnant.quia derelicti sumus pauci de pluribus,For few out of many have been left behind, sicut oculi tui nos intuentur:just as your eyes behold us.

et annuntiet nobis Dominus Deus tuus viam per quam pergamus,And so, may the Lord your God announce to us the way that we must travel,et verbum quod faciamus.and the word that we must accomplish.”

Dixit autem ad eos Jeremias propheta:Then Jeremiah, the prophet, said to them:Audivi.“I have listened.Ecce ego oro ad Dominum Deum vestrum secundum verba vestra:Behold, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words.omne verbum quodcumque responderit mihi indicabo vobis,And whatever word he will respond to me, I will declare to you.nec celabo vos quidquam. And I will conceal nothing from you.”

Et illi dixerunt ad Jeremiam:And they said to Jeremiah:Sit Dominus inter nos testis veritatis et fidei,“May the Lord be the witness between us of truthsi non juxta omne verbum in quo miserit te Dominus Deus tuus ad nos,and fidelity, sic faciemus:if we do not act according to whatever word the Lord your God will send by you to us.

sive bonum est,Whether it is for goodsive malum,or for harm, voci Domini Dei nostri,we will obey the voice of the Lord our God,ad quem mittimus te,to whom we are sending you.obediemus,So may it be well with us,ut bene sit nobis cum audierimus vocem Domini Dei nostri.when we heed the voice of the Lord our God.”

Cum autem completi essent decem dies,Then, when ten days had been completed, factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

vocavitque Johanan filium Caree,And he called Johanan, the son of Kareah,et omnes principes bellatorum qui erant cum eo,and all the leaders of warriors who were with him,et universum populum, a minimo usque ad magnum.and all the people, from the least even to the greatest.

Et dixit ad eos:And he said to them:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël,“Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel,ad quem misistis me ut prosternerem preces vestras in conspectu ejus:to whom you have sent me, so that I may present your petitions in his sight:

Si quiescentes manseritis in terra hac,If you dwell quietly in this land,ædificabo vos,I will build you up,et non destruam:and I will not tear you down.plantabo,I will plant you,et non evellam:and I will not uproot you.jam enim placatus sum super malo quod feci vobis. For now I have been appeased by the harm that I have done to you.

Nolite timere a facie regis Babylonis,Do not be afraid before the face of the king of Babylon, quem vos pavidi formidatis:whom you have dreaded with great fear.nolite metuere eum,Do not dread him, says the Lord.dicit Dominus,For I am with you, quia vobiscum sum ego ut salvos vos faciam, et eruam de manu ejus:so that I may accomplish your salvation, and so that I may rescue you from his hand.

et dabo vobis misericordias,And I will give you mercies,et miserebor vestri, and I will take pity on you,et habitare vos faciam in terra vestra.and I will cause you to live in your own land.

Si autem dixeritis vos:But if you say:Non habitabimus in terra ista,‘We will not live in this land, nec audiemus vocem Domini Dei nostri, nor will we heed the voice of the Lord our God,’

dicentes:saying:Nequaquam,‘Never! Instead, sed ad terram Ægypti pergemus,we will travel to the land of Egypt, ubi non videbimus bellum, where we will not see war,et clangorem tubæ non audiemus, and we will not hear the blast of the trumpet,et famem non sustinebimus, and we will not endure famine.et ibi habitabimus:And there we shall live.’

propter hoc nunc audite verbum Domini,Because of this, hear now the word of the Lord, reliquiæ Juda:O remnant of Judah:Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël:Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:Si posueritis faciem vestram ut ingrediamini Ægyptum,If you set your faces so as to advance into Egypt,et intraveritis ut ibi habitetis, and if you enter so that you may live there,

gladius quem vos formidatis ibi comprehendet vos in terra Ægypti:the sword which you dread will overtake you there, in the land of Egypt,et fames, and the famine, pro qua estis solliciti, about which you are anxious, adhærebit vobis in Ægypto, will cling to you in Egypt,et ibi moriemini.and there you shall die.

Omnesque viri qui posuerunt faciem suam ut ingrediantur Ægyptum,And all the men,ut habitent ibi,who have set their faces so that they may advance to Egypt in order to live there, morientur gladio, will die by the sword,et fame, and by famine,et peste:and by pestilence.nullus de eis remanebit,None of them will remain, nec effugiet a facie mali quod ego afferam super eos.nor will they escape from the face of the evil that I will bring over them.

Quia hæc dicit Dominus exercituum,For thus says the Lord of hosts,Deus Israël:the God of Israel:Sicut conflatus est furor meusJust as my fury and my indignation has been enflamed over the inhabitants of Jerusalem,et indignatio mea super habitatores Jerusalem,so will my indignation be enflamed over you,sic conflabitur indignatio mea super vos cum ingressi fueritis Ægyptum:when you will have entered into Egypt.et eritis in jusjurandum,And so you will be an oath,et in stuporem, and an astonishment,et in maledictum, and a curse,et in opprobrium, and a disgrace.et nequaquam ultra videbitis locum istum. And you will never see this place again.

Verbum Domini super vos,This is the word of the Lord concerning you, reliquiæ Juda:O remnant of Judah:Nolite intrare Ægyptum:Do not choose to enter into Egypt, scientes scietis, quia obtestatus sum vos hodie, for certainly you understand what I have sworn to you this day.

quia decepistis animas vestras. For you have deceived your own souls.Vos enim misistis me ad Dominum Deum nostrum,For you have sent me to the Lord our God,dicentes:saying:Ora pro nobis ad Dominum Deum nostrum,‘Pray on our behalf to the Lord our God.et juxta omnia quæcumque dixerit tibi Dominus Deus noster,And in accord with anything whatsoever that the Lord our God will tell you,sic annuntia nobis, announce this to us,et faciemus.and we will do it.’

Et annuntiavi vobis hodie,And I have announced it to you this day,et non audistis vocem Domini Dei vestri super universis pro quibus misit me ad vos.and you have not heeded the voice of the Lord your God, concerning everything about which he has sent me to you.

Nunc ergo scientes scietis quia gladio,Therefore, know with certainty now, that you will die by the sword,et fame, and by famine,et peste moriemini in loco ad quem voluistis intrare ut habitaretis ibi.and by pestilence, in the place which you wish to enter so that you may live there.”
