²dixit Azarias filius Osaiæ,Azariah, the son of Hoshaiah,et Johanan filius Caree,and Johanan, the son of Kareah,et omnes viri superbi,and all the exalted men,dicentes ad Jeremiam:spoke to Jeremiah, saying:Mendacium tu loqueris:“You are speaking a lie!non misit te Dominus Deus noster,The Lord our God has not sent you to say:dicens: Ne ingrediamini Ægyptum ut habitetis illuc.‘You shall not enter into Egypt so as to live in that place.’

³Sed Baruch filius Neriæ incitat te adversum nos, ut tradat nos in manus Chaldæorum, ut interficiat nos, et traduci faciat in Babylonem.Instead, Baruch, the son of Neriah, has incited you against us, so as to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, to put us to death and to cause us to be led away into Babylon.”

⁴Et non audivit Johanan filius Caree,And so Johanan,et omnes principes bellatorum,the son of Kareah,et universus populus,and all the leaders of the warriors,vocem Domini,and all the people,ut manerent in terra Juda.did not heed the voice of the Lord to remain in the land of Judah.

⁵Sed tollens Johanan filius Caree,But Johanan,et universi principes bellatorum,the son of Kareah,universos reliquiarum Juda,and all the leaders of the warriors,qui reversi fuerant de cunctis gentibus ad quas fuerant ante dispersi,took away all the remnant of Judah,ut habitarent in terra Juda,who had returned from all the nations (to which they had been scattered before) to live in the land of Judah:

⁹Sume lapides grandes in manu tua,“Take great stones in your hand,et abscondes eos in crypta quæ est sub muro latericio in porta domus Pharaonis in Taphnis,and you shall conceal them in the crypt which is under the brick wall at the gate of the house of Pharaoh at Tahpanhes,cernentibus viris Judæis:in the sight of the men of Judah.
