Initium ejus a summitate maris salsissimi,Its beginning was from the summit of the very salty sea,et a lingua ejus, and from its bay,quæ respicit meridiem.which looks toward the south.

Egrediturque contra ascensum Scorpionis,And it extends toward the ascent of the Scorpion,et pertransit in Sina:and it passes on to Sinai.ascenditque in Cadesbarne,And it ascends into Kadesh-barnea,et pervenit in Esron, and it passes through to Hezron, ascendens ad Addar, ascending to Addar,et circuiens Carcaa, and encompassing Karka.

atque inde pertransiens in Asemona,And from there, it passes on to Azmon,et perveniens ad torrentem Ægypti:and reaches to the torrent of Egypt.eruntque termini ejus mare magnum. And its boundary shall be the great sea;Hic erit finis meridianæ plagæ.this shall be the limit of the southern region.

Ab oriente vero erit initium,Yet truly, toward the east, mare salsissimum usque ad extrema Jordanis:the beginning shall be the very salty sea, even to the limit of the Jordan,et ea quæ respiciunt ad aquilonem, and that which looks toward the north,a lingua maris usque ad eumdem Jordanis fluvium.from the bay of the sea, even to the same river Jordan.

Ascenditque terminus in Beth Hagla,And the border ascends into Beth-hoglah,et transit ab aquilone in Beth Araba, and it crosses from the north into Beth-Arabah,ascendens ad lapidem Boën filii Ruben:ascending to the stone of Bohan, the son of Reuben.

et tendens usque ad terminos Debera de valle Achor,And it reaches as far as the borders of Debara, from the Valley of Achor, contra aquilonem respiciens Galgala,to the north, looking toward Gilgal,quæ est ex adverso ascensionis Adommim, which is opposite the Ascent of Adummim,ab australi parte torrentis:on the southern part of the torrent.transitque aquas, quæ vocantur fons solis:And it crosses the waters that are called the Fountain of the Sun.et erunt exitus ejus ad fontem Rogel. And its exit shall be at the Fountain of Rogel.

Ascenditque per convallem filii Ennom ex latere Jebusæi ad meridiem,And it ascends by the steep valley of the son of Hinnom, from the side of the Jebusite,hæc est Jerusalem:toward the south; this is Jerusalem.et inde se erigens ad verticem montis,And from there, it raises itself to the top of the mountain, qui est contra Geennom ad occidentem in summitate vallis Raphaim contra aquilonem:which is opposite Geennom to the west, at the top of the Valley of the Rephaim, to the north.

pertransitque a vertice montis usque ad fontem aquæ Nephtoa:And it passes through, from the top of the mountain, even to the fountain of the Water of Nephtoah.et pervenit usque ad vicos montis Ephron:And it continues on, as far as the villages of mount Ephron.inclinaturque in Baala,And it inclines toward Baalah,quæ est Cariathiarim, which is Kiriath-jearim,id est, that is,urbs silvarum.the City of Forests.

At illa respondit:But she answered:Da mihi benedictionem:“Give a blessing to me.terram australem et arentem dedisti mihi; You have given to me a southern and dry land;junge et irriguam.join to it also a watered land.”Dedit itaque ei Caleb irriguum superius et inferius. And so Caleb gave to her the watered land above and below it.
