Judas Jesu Christi servus,Jude, frater autem Jacobi,a servant of Jesus Christ, his qui sunt in Deo Patre dilectis, and brother of James,et Christo Jesu conservatis,to those who are beloved in God the Father,et vocatis.and who are guarded and called in Jesus Christ:
Misericordia vobis,May mercy,et pax,and peace,et caritas adimpleatur.and love be fulfilled in you.
Carissimi,Most beloved, omnem sollicitudinem faciens scribendi vobis de communi vestra salute, taking all care to write to you about your common salvation, necesse habui scribere vobis: deprecans supercertari semel traditæ sanctis fidei.I found it necessary to write to you in order to beg you to contend earnestly for the faith that was handed down once to the saints.
Subintroierunt enim quidam homines (qui olim præscripti sunt in hoc judicium) impii,For certain men entered unnoticed,Dei nostri gratiam transferentes in luxuriam, who were written of beforehand unto this judgment:et solum Dominatorem, impious persons who are transforming the grace of our God into self-indulgence,et Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum negantes.and who are denying both the sole Ruler and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Commonere autem vos volo,So I want to caution you.scientes semel omnia, quoniam Jesus populum de terra Ægypti salvans,Those who once knew everything that Jesus did, in saving the people from the land of Egypt, secundo eos, qui non crediderunt, perdidit:afterwards perished because they did not believe.
angelos vero,And truly, the Angels, qui non servaverunt suum principatum, who did not keep to their first place, sed dereliquerunt suum domicilium, but instead abandoned their own domiciles,in judicium magni diei, vinculis æternis sub caligine reservavit.he has reserved with perpetual chains under darkness, unto the great day of judgment.
Sicut Sodoma,And also Sodom and Gomorrah,et Gomorrha, and the adjoining cities,et finitimæ civitates simili modo exfornicatæ,in similar ways,et abeuntes post carnem alteram, having given themselves over to fornication and to the pursuing of other flesh, factæ sunt exemplum, were made an example, ignis æterni pœnam sustinentes.suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
SimiliterSimilarly also,et hi carnem quidem maculant, these ones certainly defile the flesh, dominationem autem spernunt, and they despise proper authority, majestatem autem blasphemant.and they blaspheme against majesty.
Cum Michaël Archangelus cum diabolo disputans altercaretur de Moysi corpore,When Michael the Archangel, disputing with the devil, contended about the body of Moses, non est ausus judicium inferre blasphemiæ:he did not dare to bring against him a judgment of blasphemy, sed dixit: Imperet tibi Dominus.so instead he said: “The Lord commands you.”
Hi autem quæcumque quidem ignorant,But these men certainly blaspheme against whatever they do not understand.blasphemant:And yet,quæcumque autem naturaliter, whatever they, tamquam muta animalia, like mute animals, norunt, know from nature,in his corrumpuntur.in these things they are corrupted.
Væ illis,Woe to them!quia in via Cain abierunt,For they have gone after the way of Cain,et errore Balaam mercede effusi sunt, and they have poured out the error of Balaam for profit,et in contradictione Core perierunt!and they have perished in the sedition of Korah.
Hi sunt in epulis suis maculæ,These ones are defiled within their banquets,convivantes sine timore,enjoying themselvessemetipsos pascentes,and feeding themselves without fear;nubes sine aqua,waterless clouds,quæ a ventis circumferentur,which are tossed about by winds;arbores autumnales,autumn trees,infructuosæ,unfruitful,bis mortuæ,twice dead,eradicatæ,uprooted;
fluctus feri maris, raging waves of the sea, despumantes suas confusiones, foaming from their own confusion;sidera errantia:wandering stars, quibus procella tenebrarum servata est in æternum.for whom the whirlwind of darkness has been reserved forever!
Prophetavit autem et de his septimus ab Adam Enoch, dicens: Ecce venit Dominus in sanctis millibus suisAnd about these, Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied, saying: “Behold, the Lord is arriving with thousands of his saints,
facere judicium contra omnes,to execute judgment against everyone,et arguere omnes impios de omnibus operibus impietatis eorum, and to reprove all the impious concerning all the works of their impiety, quibus impie egerunt,by which they have acted impiously,et de omnibus duris, quæ locuti sunt contra Deum peccatores impii.and concerning all the harsh things that impious sinners have spoken against God.”
Hi sunt murmuratores querulosi,These ones are complaining murmurers, secundum desideria sua ambulantes, walking according to their own desires.et os eorum loquitur superba,And their mouth is speaking arrogance, mirantes personas quæstus causa.admiring persons for the sake of gain.
Vos autem carissimi,But as for you, memores estote verborum, most beloved,quæ prædicta sunt ab apostolis Domini nostri Jesu Christi,be mindful of the words which have been foretold by the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,
qui dicebant vobis, who declared to you that, quoniam in novissimo tempore venient illusores,in the end time, there would arrive mockers, secundum desideria sua ambulantes in impietatibus.walking according to their own desires, in impieties.
Hi sunt, qui segregant semetipsos,These are the ones who segregate themselves;animales, Spiritum non habentes.they are animals, not having the Spirit.
Vos autem carissimi superædificantes vosmetipsos sanctissimæ vestræ fidei,But you, most beloved, are building yourselves up by your most holy faith,in Spiritu Sancto orantes, praying in the Holy Spirit,
vosmetipsos in dilectione Dei servate, keeping yourselves in the love of God,exspectantes misericordiam Domini nostri Jesu Christi in vitam æternam.and anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Et hos quidem arguite judicatos:So certainly, reprove them, after they have been judged.
illos vero salvate,Yet truly,de igne rapientes.save them,Aliis autem miseremini in timore:seizing them from the fire.odientesAnd have mercy on others:et eam,in fear,quæ carnalis est, hating even that which is of the flesh, maculatam tunicam.the defiled garment.
Ei autem qui potens est vos conservare sine peccato et constituere ante conspectum gloriæ suæ immaculatos in exsultatione in adventu Domini nostri Jesu Christi,Then, to him who has the power to keep you free from sin and to present you, immaculate, with exultation, before the presence of his glory at the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ,
soli Deo Salvatori nostro,to the only God, our Savior, per Jesum Christum Dominum nostrum, gloria et magnificentia, through Jesus Christ our Lord: to him be glory and magnificence, imperium et potestas ante omne sæculum, dominion and power, before all ages,et nunc, and now,et in omnia sæcula sæculorum.and in every age, forever.Amen.Amen.
