Arphaxad itaque,And so Arphaxad, rex Medorum, king of the Medes, subjugaverat multas gentes imperio suo, subjugated many nations under his authority,et ipse ædificavit civitatem potentissimam, and he built a very powerful city, quam appellavit Ecbatanis, which he called Ecbatana.

ex lapidibus quadratis et sectis:From stones, cut and squared, fecit muros ejus in altitudinem cubitorum septuaginta, et in latitudinem cubitorum triginta:he made its walls: seventy cubits in height and thirty cubits in breadth.turres vero ejus posuit in altitudinem cubitorum centum. And, in truth, he set its towers one hundred cubits in height.

Ad hos omnes misit nuntios Nabuchodonosor rex Assyriorum:To all these, Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Assyrians, sent messengers:

qui omnes uno animo contradixerunt, whom they all with one mind contradicted,et remiserunt eos vacuos, and they sent them back empty,et sine honore abjecerunt.and they rejected them without honor.

Tunc indignatus Nabuchodonosor rex adversus omnem terram illam,Then king Nebuchadnezzar, juravit per thronumbeing indignant against all that land,et regnum suum quod defenderet se de omnibus regionibus his.swore by his throne and his kingdom that he would defend himself against all those regions.
