Et consummati sunt sermones Tobiæ.And the sermon of Tobit was completed.Et postquam illuminatus est Tobias,And after Tobit received his sight, vixit annis quadraginta duobus,he lived forty-two years,et vidit filios nepotum suorum.and he saw the sons of his grandchildren.

Completis itaque annis centum duobus,And so, having completed one hundred and two years, sepultus est honorifice in Ninive.he was buried honorably at Nineveh.

Quinquaginta namque et sex annorum lumen oculorum amisit,For he was fifty-six years old, when he lost the light of his eyes, and he was sixty years old, sexagenarius vero recepit.when he truly received it again.

Reliquum vero vitæ suæ in gaudio fuit,And, in truth, the remainder of his life was in gladness.et cum bono profectu timoris Dei perrexit in pace. And so, with the good accomplishment of the fear of God, he departed in peace.

In hora autem mortis suæ vocavit ad se Tobiam filium suum,But, in the hour of his death, he called to himself his son Tobias,et septem juvenes filios ejus nepotes suos, along with his sons, the seven youths who were his grandsons, dixitque eis:and he said to them:

Prope erit interitus Ninive:“Nineveh will pass away soon.non enim excidit verbum Domini:For the word of the Lord goes forward,et fratres nostri, and our brothers, qui dispersi sunt a terra Israël,who have been dispersed away from the land of Israel, revertentur ad eam.shall return to it.

Omnis autem deserta terra ejus replebitur,Thus its deserted land will be entirely filled again.et domus Dei,And the house of God,quæ in ea incensa est, which was burned like incense within it,iterum reædificabitur:will be rebuilt again.ibique revertentur omnes timentes Deum,And all those who fear God will return there.

et relinquent gentes idola sua,And the Gentiles will relinquish their idols,et venient in Jerusalem, and they will enter into Jerusalem,et inhabitabunt in ea:and they will dwell in it.

et gaudebunt in ea omnes reges terræ,And all the kings of the earth will rejoice in it,adorantes regem Israël.adoring the King of Israel.

Audite ergo,Therefore, filii mei,my sons, patrem vestrum:listen to your father.servite Domino in veritate,Serve the Lord in truth,et inquirite ut faciatis quæ placita sunt illi:and seek to do the things that please him.

et filiis vestris mandate ut faciant justitias et eleemosynas,And command your sons,ut sint memores Dei,so that they may accomplish justice and almsgiving,et benedicant eum in omni tempore in veritate, and so that they may be mindful of God and may bless him at all times,et in tota virtute sua.in truth and with all their strength.

Nunc ergo filii,And now, sons, audite me,listen to me,et nolite manere hic:and do not remain here.sed quacumque die sepelieritis matrem vestram circa me in uno sepulchro,But, on whatever day you will bury your mother near me in one sepulcher,ex eo dirigite gressus vestros ut exeatis hinc:from that time, direct your steps to leave this place.

video enim quia iniquitas ejus finem dabit ei.For I see that its iniquity will bring about its end.”

Factum est autem post obitum matris suæ,And it happened that, after the death of his mother,Tobias abscessit ex Ninive cum uxore sua,Tobias withdrew from Nineveh, with his wife,et filiis, and sons,et filiorum filiis, and sons of sons,et reversus est ad soceros suos:and he was returned to his father-in-law.

invenitque eos incolumes in senectute bona:And he found them unharmed in a good old age.et curam eorum gessit,And he took care of them,et ipse clausit oculos eorum:and he closed their eyes.et omnem hæreditatem domus Raguelis ipse percepit:And all the inheritance of the house of Raguel passed to him.viditque quintam generationem, filios filiorum suorum. And he saw the sons of his sons to the fifth generation.

Et completis annis nonaginta novem in timore Domini,And, having completed ninety-nine years in the fear of the Lord, cum gaudio sepelierunt eum.with joy, they buried him.

Omnis autem cognatio ejus et omnis generatio ejus in bona vita et in sancta conversatione permansit,But all his family and all his lineage continued with a good life and in holy conversation, ita ut accepti essent tam Deo quam hominibus,so that they were acceptable both to God and to men,et cunctis habitantibus in terra.as well as to everyone who dwelt in the land.
