Et post dies sex assumit Jesus Petrum,And after six days, Jesus took with him Peter,et Jacobum, and James,et Joannem, and John;et ducit illos in montem excelsum seorsum solos, and he led them separately to a lofty mountain alone;et transfiguratus est coram ipsis.and he was transfigured before them.

Et vestimenta ejus facta sunt splendentia,And his vestments became radiantet candida nimis velut nix,and exceedingly white like snow, qualia fullo non potest super terram candida facere.with such a brilliance as no fuller on earth is able to achieve.

Et apparuit illis Elias cum Moyse:And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses;et erant loquentes cum Jesu.and they were speaking with Jesus.

Et respondens Petrus,And in response, ait Jesu:Peter said to Jesus:Rabbi,“Master, bonum est nos hic esse:it is good for us to be here.et faciamus tria tabernacula,And so let us make three tabernacles, tibi unum, one for you,et Moysi unum, and one for Moses,et Eliæ unum.and one for Elijah.”

Non enim sciebat quid diceret:For he did not know what he was saying.erant enim timore exterriti. For they were overwhelmed by fear.

Et facta est nubes obumbrans eos:And there was a cloud overshadowing them.et venit vox de nube,And a voice came from the cloud, dicens:saying:Hic est Filius meus carissimus:“This is my most beloved Son.audite illum.Listen to him.”

Et statim circumspicientes,And immediately, looking around, neminem amplius viderunt, they no longer saw anyone, nisi Jesum tantum secum.except Jesus alone with them.

Et descendentibus illis de monte,And as they were descending from the mountain,præcepit illis ne cuiquam quæ vidissent, narrarent:he instructed them not to relate to anyone what they had seen, nisi cum Filius hominis a mortuis resurrexerit.until after the Son of man will have risen again from the dead.

Et verbum continuerunt apud se:And they kept the word to themselves, conquirentes quid esset, cum a mortuis resurrexerit.arguing about what “after he will have risen from the dead” might mean.

Et interrogabant eum,And they questioned him, dicentes:saying:Quid ergo dicunt pharisæi et scribæ,“Then why do the Phariseesquia Eliam oportet venire primum?and the scribes say that Elijah must arrive first?”

Qui respondens,And in response, ait illis:he said to them:Elias cum venerit primo,“Elijah, restituet omnia:when he will arrive first,et quomodo scriptum est in Filium hominis, shall restore all things.ut multa patiaturAnd in the manner that it has been written about the Son of man,et contemnatur.so must he suffer many things and be condemned.

Sed dico vobis quia et Elias venit (et fecerunt illi quæcumque voluerunt) sicut scriptum est de eo.But I say to you, that Elijah also has arrived, (and they have done to him whatever they wanted) just as it has been written about him.”

Et veniens ad discipulos suos,And approaching his disciples, vidit turbam magnam circa eos,he saw a great crowd surrounding them,et scribas conquirentes cum illis.and the scribes were arguing with them.

Et confestim omnis populus videns Jesum,And soon all the people, seeing Jesus, stupefactus est, et expaverunt, were astonished and struck with fear,et accurrentes salutabant eum.and hurrying to him, they greeted him.

Et interrogavit eos:And he questioned them,Quid inter vos conquiritis?“What are you arguing about among yourselves?”

Et respondens unus de turba,And one from the crowd responded by saying:dixit:“Teacher,Magister,I have brought to you my son, attuli filium meum ad te habentem spiritum mutum:who has a mute spirit.

qui ubicumque eum apprehenderit,And whenever it takes hold of him, allidit illum,it throws him down,et spumat, and he foamset stridet dentibus, and gnashes with his teeth,et arescit:and he becomes unconscious.et dixi discipulis tuis ut ejicerent illum,And I asked your disciples to cast him out,et non potuerunt.and they could not.”

Qui respondens eis,And answering them, dixit:he said:O generatio incredula,“O unbelieving generation, quamdiu apud vos ero?how long must I be with you?quamdiu vos patiar? How long shall I endure you?afferte illum ad me.Bring him to me.”

Et attulerunt eum.And they brought him.Et cum vidisset eum,And when he had seen him, statim spiritus conturbavit illum:immediately the spirit disturbed him.et elisus in terram,And having been thrown to the ground, volutabatur spumans.he rolled around foaming.

Et interrogavit patrem ejus:And he questioned his father,Quantum temporis est ex quo ei hoc accidit?“How long has this been happening to him?”At ille ait:But he said:Ab infantia:“From infancy.

et frequenter eum in ignem, et in aquas misit ut eum perderet:And often it casts him into fire or into water, in order to destroy him.sed si quid potes, adjuva nos,But if you are able to do anything, misertus nostri.help us and take pity on us.”

Jesus autem ait illi:But Jesus said to him,Si potes credere,“If you are able to believe:omnia possibilia sunt credenti.all things are possible to one who believes.”

Et continuo exclamans pater pueri,And immediately the father of the boy,cum lacrimis aiebat:crying out with tears, said:Credo, Domine;“I do believe, adjuva incredulitatem meam.Lord. Help my unbelief.”

Et cum videret Jesus concurrentem turbam,And when Jesus saw the crowd rushing together, comminatus est spiritui immundo,he admonished the unclean spirit, dicens illi:saying to him,Surde et mute spiritus,“Deaf and mute spirit, ego præcipio tibi,I command you,exi ab eo:leave him;et amplius ne introëas in eum.and do not enter into him anymore.”

Et exclamans,And crying out,et multum discerpens eum,and convulsing him greatly, exiit ab eo,he departed from him.et factus est sicut mortuus,And he became like one who is dead, ita ut multi dicerent:so much so that many said,Quia mortuus est.“He is dead.”

Jesus autem tenens manum ejus elevavit eum,But Jesus, taking him by the hand, lifted him up.et surrexit. And he arose.

Et cum introisset in domum,And when he had entered into the house, discipuli ejus secreto interrogabant eum:his disciples questioned him privately,Quare nos non potuimus ejicere eum?“Why were we unable to cast him out?”

Et dixit illis:And he said to them,Hoc genus in nullo potest exire,“This kind is able to be expelled by nothing other than prayernisi in oratione et jejunio.and fasting.”

Et inde profecti prætergrediebantur Galilæam:And setting out from there, they passed through Galilee.nec volebat quemquam scire. And he intended that no one know about it.

Docebat autem discipulos suos,Then he taught his disciples, and he said to them,et dicebat illis: Quoniam Filius hominis tradetur in manus hominum,“For the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him,et occident eum,and having been killed,et occisus tertia die resurget.on the third day he will rise again.”

At illi ignorabant verbum:But they did not understand the word.et timebant interrogare eum.And they were afraid to question him.

Et venerunt Capharnaum. And they went to Capernaum.Qui cum domi essent,And when they were in the house, interrogabat eos:he questioned them,Quid in via tractabatis?“What did you discuss on the way?”

At illi tacebant:But they were silent. For indeed, siquidem in via inter se disputaverunt: quis eorum major esset.on the way, they had disputed among themselves as to which of them was greater.

Et residens vocavit duodecim,And sitting down,et ait illis:he called the twelve,Si quis vult primus esse, and he said to them, erit omnium novissimus,“If anyone wants to be first,et omnium minister.he shall be the last of all and the minister of all.”

Et accipiens puerum,And taking a child, statuit eum in medio eorum:he set him in their midst.quem cum complexus esset,And when he had embraced him,ait illis:he said to them:

Quisquis unum ex hujusmodi pueris receperit in nomine meo,“Whoever receives one such child in my name,me recipit:receives me.et quicumque me susceperit,And whoever receives me,non me suscipit, receives not me,sed eum qui misit me.but him who sent me.”

Respondit illi Joannes, dicens:John responded to him by saying,Magister,“Teacher, vidimus quemdam in nomine tuo ejicientem dæmonia,we saw someone casting out demons in your name;qui non sequitur nos,he does not follow us,et prohibuimus eum.and so we prohibited him.”

Jesus autem ait:But Jesus said:Nolite prohibere eum:“Do not prohibit him.nemo est enim qui faciat virtutem in nomine meo,For there is no one who can act with virtue in my nameet possit cito male loqui de me:and soon speak evil about me.

qui enim non est adversum vos, pro vobis est.For whoever is not against you is for you.

Quisquis enim potum dederit vobis calicem aquæ in nomine meo,For whoever, in my name, will give you a cup of water to drink, quia Christi estis:because you belong to Christ:amen dico vobis,Amen I say to you,non perdet mercedem suam.he shall not lose his reward.

Et quisquis scandalizaverit unum ex his pusillis credentibus in me:And whoever will have scandalized one of these little ones who believe in me:bonum est ei magis si circumdaretur mola asinaria collo ejus,it would be better for him if a great millstone were placed around his necket in mare mitteretur.and he were thrown into the sea.

Et si scandalizaverit te manus tua,And if your hand causes you to sin, abscide illam:cut it off:bonum est tibi debilem introire in vitam,it is better for you to enter into life disabled, quam duas manus habentem ire in gehennam, than having two hands to go into Hell,in ignem inextinguibilem, into the unquenchable fire,

ubi vermis eorum non moritur, where their worm does not die,et ignis non extinguitur.and the fire is not extinguished.

Et si pes tuus te scandalizat,But if your foot causes you to sin, amputa illum:chop it off:bonum est tibi claudum introire in vitam æternam,it is better for you to enter into eternal life lame, quam duos pedes habentem mitti in gehennam ignis inextinguibilis, than having two feet to be cast into the Hell of unquenchable fire,

ubi vermis eorum non moritur, where their worm does not die,et ignis non extinguitur.and the fire is not extinguished.

Quod si oculus tuus scandalizat te,But if your eye causes you to sin, ejice eum:pluck it out:bonum est tibi luscum introire in regnum Dei,it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis, than having two eyes to be cast into the Hell of fire,

ubi vermis eorum non moritur, where their worm does not die,et ignis non extinguitur.and the fire is not extinguished.

Omnis enim igne salietur,For all shall be salted with fire,et omnis victima sale salietur.and every victim shall be salted with salt.

Bonum est sal:Salt is good:quod si sal insulsum fuerit, but if the salt has become bland,in quo illud condietis?with what will you season it?Habete in vobis sal,Have salt in yourselves,et pacem habete inter vos.and have peace among yourselves.”
