Tunc simile erit regnum cælorum decem virginibus:“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins,quæ accipientes lampades suas exierunt obviam sponso et sponsæ.who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.
Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuæ,But five of them were foolish,et quinque prudentes:and five were prudent.
sed quinque fatuæ,For the five foolish, acceptis lampadibus, having brought their lamps, non sumpserunt oleum secum:did not take oil with them.
prudentes vero acceperunt oleum in vasis suis cum lampadibus.Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.
Moram autem faciente sponso,Since the bridegroom was delayed, dormitaverunt omnesthey all fell asleep,et dormierunt.and they were sleeping.
Media autem nocte clamor factus est:But in the middle of the night, a cry went out:Ecce sponsus venit,‘Behold, the groom is arriving.exite obviam ei.Go out to meet him.’
Tunc surrexerunt omnes virgines illæ,Then all those virgins rose upet ornaverunt lampades suas.and trimmed their lamps.
Fatuæ autem sapientibus dixerunt:But the foolish ones said to the wise,Date nobis de oleo vestro,‘Give to us from your oil, quia lampades nostræ extinguuntur.for our lamps are being extinguished.’
Responderunt prudentes,The prudent responded by saying, dicentes: Ne forte non sufficiat nobis,‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you,et vobis, ite potius ad vendentes, et emite vobis.it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’
Dum autem irent emere,But while they were going to buy it,venit sponsus:the groom arrived.et quæ paratæ erant, intraverunt cum eo ad nuptias,And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding,et clausa est janua.and the door was closed.
Novissime vero veniunt et reliquæ virgines,Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, dicentes:saying,Domine, domine,‘Lord, Lord, aperi nobis.open to us.’
At ille respondens, ait:But he responded by saying,Amen dico vobis,‘Amen I say to you, nescio vos.I do not know you.’
Vigilate itaque,And so you must be vigilant, quia nescitis diem, because you do not know the dayneque horam.or the hour.
Sicut enim homo peregre proficiscens,For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, vocavit servos suos, who called his servantset tradidit illis bona sua.and delivered to them his goods.
Et uni dedit quinque talenta,And to one he gave five talents, alii autem duo,and to another two, alii vero unum, unicuique secundum propriam virtutem:yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability.et profectus est statim. And promptly, he set out.
Abiit autem qui quinque talenta acceperat,Then he who had received five talents went out,et operatus est in eis,and he made use of these,et lucratus est alia quinque.and he gained another five.
Similiter et qui duo acceperat,And similarly, lucratus est alia duo.he who had received two gained another two.
Qui autem unum acceperat,But he who had received one, abiens fodit in terram, going out, dug into the earth,et abscondit pecuniam domini sui.and he hid the money of his lord.
Post multum vero temporis venit dominus servorum illorum, et posuit rationem cum eis.Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.
Et accedens qui quinque talenta acceperat,And when he who had received five talents approached, obtulit alia quinque talenta,he brought another five talents, dicens:saying:Domine,‘Lord, quinque talenta tradidisti mihi, you delivered five talents to me.ecce alia quinque superlucratus sum.Behold, I have increased it by another five.’
Ait illi dominus ejus:His lord said to him:Euge serve bone,‘Well done,et fidelis:good and faithful servant.quia super pauca fuisti fidelis,Since you have been faithful over a few things, super multa te constituam;I will appoint you over many things.intra in gaudium domini tui.Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
Accessit autemThen he who had received two talents also approached,et qui duo talenta acceperat, and he said:et ait:‘Lord,Domine, you delivered two talents to me.duo talenta tradidisti mihi,Behold, ecce alia duo lucratus sum.I have gained another two.’
Accedens autemThen he who had received one talent,et qui unum talentum acceperat, approaching, ait:said:Domine,‘Lord, scio quia homo durus es;I know that you are a hard man.metis ubi non seminasti,You reap where you have not sown,et congregas ubi non sparsisti:and gather where you have not scattered.
et timens abii,And so, being afraid,et abscondi talentum tuum in terra:I went out and hid your talent in the earth.ecce habes quod tuum est.Behold, you have what is yours.’
Respondens autem dominus ejus,But his lord said to him in response:dixit ei: Serve male,‘You evil and lazy servant!et piger, sciebas quia meto ubi non semino,You knew that I reap where I have not sown,et congrego ubi non sparsi:and gather where I have not scattered.
oportuit ergo te committere pecuniam meam numulariis,Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then,et veniens ego recepissem utique quod meum est cum usura.at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.
Tollite itaque ab eo talentum,And so,et date ei qui habet decem talenta:take the talent away from him and give it to the one who has ten talents.
omni enim habenti dabitur,For to everyone who has, more shall be given,et abundabit: ei autem qui non habet, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not,et quod videtur habere, even what he seems to have, auferetur ab eo.shall be taken away.
Et inutilem servum ejicite in tenebras exteriores:And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, illic erit fletus, where there will be weepinget stridor dentium.and gnashing of teeth.’
Cum autem venerit Filius hominis in majestate sua,But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty,et omnes angeli cum eo,and all the Angels with him, tunc sedebit super sedem majestatis suæ:then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.
et congregabuntur ante eum omnes gentes,And all the nations shall be gathered together before him.et separabit eos ab invicem,And he shall separate them from one another, sicut pastor segregat oves ab hædis:just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
et statuet oves quidem a dextris suis,And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right,hædos autem a sinistris.but the goats on his left.
Tunc dicet rex his qui a dextris ejus erunt:Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right:Venite benedicti Patris mei,‘Come, you blessed of my Father.possidete paratum vobis regnum a constitutione mundi:Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
esurivi enim,For I was hungry,et dedistis mihi manducare:and you gave me to eat;sitivi,I was thirsty,et dedistis mihi bibere:and you gave me to drink;hospes eram,I was a stranger,et collegistis me:and you took me in;
nudus, naked,et cooperuistis me:and you covered me;infirmus, sick,et visitastis me:and you visited me;in carcere eram,I was in prison,et venistis ad me.and you came to me.’
Tunc respondebunt ei justi,Then the just will answer him, dicentes:saying:Domine,‘Lord, quando te vidimus esurientem, when have we seen you hungry,et pavimus te:and fed you;sitientem, thirsty,et dedimus tibi potum?and given you drink?
quando autem te vidimus hospitem,And when have we seen you a stranger,et collegimus te:and taken you in?aut nudum,Or naked,et cooperuimus te?and covered you?
aut quando te vidimus infirmum,Or when did we see you sick, aut in carcere,or in prison,et venimus ad te?and visit to you?’
Et respondens rex, dicet illis:And in response, the King shall say to them,Amen dico vobis,‘Amen I say to you, quamdiu fecistis uni ex his fratribus meis minimis, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, mihi fecistis.you did it for me.’
Tunc dicet et his qui a sinistris erunt:Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left:Discedite a me maledicti in ignem æternum,‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, qui paratus est diabolo, et angelis ejus:which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
esurivi enim,For I was hungry,et non dedistis mihi manducare:and you did not give me to eat;sitivi,I was thirsty,et non dedistis mihi potum:and you did not give me to drink;
hospes eram,I was a strangeret non collegistis me:and you did not take me in;nudus, naked,et non cooperuistis me:and you did not cover me;infirmus, sicket in carcere, and in prison,et non visitastis me.and you did not visit me.’
Tunc respondebunt ei et ipsi,Then they will also answer him,dicentes:saying:Domine,‘Lord,quando te vidimus esurientem,when did we see you hungry,aut sitientem,or thirsty,aut hospitem,or a stranger,aut nudum,or naked,aut infirmum,or sick,aut in carcere,or in prison,et non ministravimus tibi?and did not minister to you?’
Tunc respondebit illis, dicens:Then he shall respond to them by saying:Amen dico vobis:‘Amen I say to you,Quamdiu non fecistis uni de minoribus his, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, nec mihi fecistis.neither did you do it to me.’
Et ibunt hi in supplicium æternum:And these shall go into eternal punishment, justi autem in vitam æternam.but the just shall go into eternal life.”
