Locutus est Dominus ad Moysen in deserto Sinai anno secundo,The Lord spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, postquam egressi sunt de terra Ægypti,in the second year after they departed from the land of Egypt, mense primo,in the first month, dicens:saying:

Faciant filii Israël Phase in tempore suo,“Let the sons of Israel observe the Passover at its proper time,

quartadecima die mensis hujus ad vesperam,on the fourteenth day of this month, juxta omnes cæremoniasin the evening,et justificationes ejus.according to all of its ceremonies and justifications.”

Præcepitque Moyses filiis Israël ut facerent Phase. And Moses instructed the sons of Israel, so that they would observe the Passover.

Qui fecerunt tempore suo,And they observed it at its proper time:quartadecima die mensis ad vesperam,on the fourteenth day of the month,in monte Sinai.in the evening,Juxta omnia quæ mandaverat Dominus Moysi,at mount Sinai.fecerunt filii Israël.The sons of Israel acted according to all the things that the Lord had commanded Moses.

Ecce autem quidam immundi super anima hominis,But behold, certain ones, who were not able to observe the Passover on that day,qui non poterant facere Phase in die illo, being unclean because of the life of a man, accedentes ad Moysen et Aaron, approaching Moses and Aaron,

dixerunt eis:said to them:Immundi sumus super anima hominis:“We are unclean because of the life of a man. Why have we been cheated, quare fraudamur ut non valeamus oblationem offerre Domino in tempore suo inter filios Israël?in that we are not permitted to offer, at its proper time, the oblation to the Lord among the sons of Israel?”

Quibus respondit Moyses:And Moses responded to them: “Remain,State ut consulam quid præcipiat Dominus de vobis.so that I may consult the Lord, as to what he will rule about you.”

Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen,And the Lord spoke to Moses, dicens:saying:

Loquere filiis Israël:“Say to the sons of Israel:Homo, qui fuerit immundus super anima,The man who becomes unclean because of a life, sive in via procul in gente vestra,or if he is on a distant journey within your nation, faciat Phase Dominolet him observe the Passover to the Lord.

in mense secundo,In the second month, quartadecima die mensis ad vesperam.on the fourteenth day of the month,Cum azymisin the evening,et lactucis agrestibus comedent illud:they shall eat it with unleavened bread and wild lettuce.

non relinquent ex eo quippiam usque mane,They shall not leave behind any of it until morning,et os ejus non confringent:and they shall not break a bone of it;omnem ritum Phase observabunt.they shall observe all the rituals of the Passover.

Si quis autem et mundus est,But if any man was both clean,et in itinere non fuit, and not on a journey,et tamen non fecit Phase, and yet he did not observe the Passover, exterminabitur anima illa de populis suis, that soul shall be exterminated from among his people, quia sacrificium Domino non obtulit tempore suo:because he did not offer the sacrifice to the Lord in its time.peccatum suum ipse portabit. He shall bear his sin.

Peregrinus quoque et advena si fuerint apud vos,Likewise, the sojourner and the newcomer, if they are among you, facient Phase Domino juxta cæremonias et justificationes ejus.shall observe the Passover to the Lord according to its ceremonies and justifications.Præceptum idem erit apud vos tam advenæ quam indigenæ.The same precept shall be with you, as much for the newcomer as for the native.”

Igitur die qua erectum est tabernaculum, operuit illud nubes. A vespere autem super tentorium erat quasi species ignis usque mane. And so, on the day when the tabernacle was raised, a cloud covered it. But over the tabernacle, from evening until morning, there was, as it seemed, the appearance of fire.

Sic fiebat jugiter:This was so continually:per diem operiebat illud nubes, throughout the day a cloud covered it,et per noctem quasi species ignis.and throughout the night, the appearance of fire.

Cumque ablata fuisset nubes, quæ tabernaculum protegebat,And when the cloud that was protecting the tabernacle had been taken up,tunc proficiscebantur filii Israël:then the sons of Israel advanced forward,et in loco ubi stetisset nubes, ibi castrametabantur.and in the place where the cloud had remained standing, there they made camp.

Ad imperium Domini proficiscebantur,Upon the order of the Lord they advanced,et ad imperium illius figebant tabernaculum.and upon his order they fixed the tabernacle.Cunctis diebus quibus stabat nubes super tabernaculum,All the days during which the cloud was standing over the tabernacle, manebant in eodem loco:they remained in the same place.

et si evenisset ut multo tempore maneret super illud,And if it happened that it remained for a long time over it,erant filii Israël in excubiis Domini, the sons of Israel kept the night watches of the Lord,et non proficiscebanturand they did not advance,

quot diebus fuisset nubes super tabernaculum.during as many days as the cloud remained over the tabernacle.Ad imperium Domini erigebant tentoria,At the command of the Lord they raised their tents,et ad imperium illius deponebant.and at his command they took them down.

Si fuisset nubes a vespere usque mane,If the cloud remained from evening until morning,et statim diluculo tabernaculum reliquisset, and immediately, at first light, it left the tabernacle, proficiscebantur:they set out.et si post diem et noctem recessisset,And if it withdrew after a day and a night, dissipabant tentoria.they dismantled their tents.

Si vero biduo aut uno mense vel longiori tempore fuisset super tabernaculum,Yet truly, whether it remained over the tabernacle for two days, or one month, manebant filii Israël in eodem loco,or a longer time, the sons of Israel remained in the same place,et non proficiscebantur:and they did not set out.statim autem ut recessisset,Then, as soon as it withdrew, movebant castra.they moved the camp.

Per verbum Domini figebant tentoria,By the word of the Lord they fixed their tents,et per verbum illius proficiscebantur:and by his word they advanced.erantque in excubiis Domini juxta imperium ejus per manum Moysi. And they kept the night watches of the Lord, according to his command by the hand of Moses.
