Cum sanare vellem Israël,When I was willing to heal Israel, revelata est iniquitas Ephraim, the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered,et malitia Samariæ,and the malice of Samaria, quia operati sunt mendacium;for they had been manufacturing lies.et fur ingressus est spolians,And the thief steals from inside, latrunculus foris.the robber from outside.
Et ne forte dicant in cordibus suis,And,omnem malitiam eorum me recordatum,so that they may not say in their hearts that I am the one who has called to mind all of their wickedness:nunc circumdederunt eos adinventiones suæ:now their own inventions have encircled them.coram facie mea factæ sunt. These things have happened in my presence.
In malitia sua lætificaverunt regem,The king has rejoiced at their wickedness,et in mendaciis suis principes.and the leaders have rejoiced in their lies.
Omnes adulterantes,They are all adulterers;quasi clibanus succensus a coquente;like an oven heating up before baking, quievit paululum civitas a commistione fermenti, the city rested a little before the leaven was mixed in,donec fermentaretur totum.until the whole was leavened.
Dies regis nostri:On the day of our king,cœperunt principes furere a vino;the leaders began to be mad with wine;extendit manum suam cum illusoribus.he extended his hand with those who fabricate illusions.
Quia applicuerunt quasi clibanum cor suum,For they have used their heart like an oven, cum insidiaretur eis;while he laid snares for them;tota nocte dormivit coquens eos:he slept through the night baking them, mane ipse succensus quasi ignis flammæ.and by morning he himself was heated like a burning fire.
Omnes calefacti sunt quasi clibanus,They have all become hot like an oven,et devoraverunt judices suos:and they have devoured their judges.omnes reges eorum ceciderunt; All their kings have fallen.non est qui clamat in eis ad me.There is no one who calls to me among them.
Ephraim in populis ipse commiscebatur;Ephraim himself has been mingled with the nations.Ephraim factus est subcinericius panis,Ephraim has become like bread, baked under ashes, qui non reversatur.that has not been turned over.
Comederunt alieni robur ejus,Strangers have devoured his strength,et ipse nescivit;and he did not know it.sed et cani effusi sunt in eo,And grey hairs also have spread across him,et ipse ignoravit.and he is ignorant of it.
Et humiliabitur superbia Israël in facie ejus; And the pride of Israel will be brought low before his face, nec reversi sunt ad Dominum Deum suum, for they have not returned to the Lord their God,et non quæsierunt eum in omnibus his.nor have they sought him in all of this.
Et factus est Ephraim quasi columba seducta non habens cor.And Ephraim has become like a pigeon that has been led astray, not having a heart;Ægyptum invocabant;for they called upon Egypt,ad Assyrios abierunt.they went to the Assyrians.
Et cum profecti fuerint,And when they will set out, expandam super eos rete meum:I will spread my net over them.quasi volucrem cæli detraham eos;I will pull them down like the birds of the sky;cædam eos secundum auditionem cœtus eorum.I will cut them down in accordance with the reports of their meetings.
Væ eis,Woe to them, quoniam recesserunt a me!for they have withdrawn from me.vastabuntur, quia prævaricati sunt in me,They will waste away because they have been dishonest with me.et ego redemi eos,And I redeemed them,et ipsi locuti sunt contra me mendacia.and they have spoken lies against me.
Et non clamaverunt ad me in corde suo,And they have not cried out to me in their heart, sed ululabant in cubilibus suis:but they howled on their beds.super triticum et vinum ruminabant; They have obsessed about wheat and wine;recesserunt a me.they have withdrawn from me.
Et ego erudivi eos,And I have educated them,et confortavi brachia eorum, and I have reinforced their arms;et in me cogitaverunt malitiam.and they have imagined evil against me.
Reversi sunt ut essent absque jugo; They returned so that they might be without a yoke.facti sunt quasi arcus dolosus:They have become like a deceitful bow.cadent in gladio principes eorum, a furore linguæ suæ.Their leaders will fall by the sword because of the madness of their words.Ista subsannatio eorum in terra Ægypti. This is their derision in the land of Egypt.
