Et cœpit Salomon ædificare domum Domini in Jerusalem in monte Moria,And Solomon began to build the house of the Lord, in Jerusalem on mount Moriah, qui demonstratus fuerat David patri ejus, in loco quem paraverat David in area Ornan Jebusæi.as it had been shown to David his father, at the place which David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Cœpit autem ædificare mense secundo,Now he began to build in the second month, anno quarto regni sui.in the fourth year of his reign.

Et hæc sunt fundamenta quæ jecit Salomon,And these are the foundations,ut ædificaret domum Dei:which Solomon set forth so that he might build the house of God:longitudinis cubitos in mensura prima sexaginta, the length in cubits by the first measure sixty, latitudinis cubitos viginti.the width in cubits twenty.

Porticum vero ante frontem,Truly, at the front, the portico,quæ tendebatur in longum juxta mensuram latitudinis domus, which was extended in length according to the measure of the width of the house, cubitorum viginti:was of twenty cubits.porro altitudo centum viginti cubitorum erat:Then the height was of one hundred twenty cubits.et deauravit eam intrinsecus auro mundissimo. And he overlaid it on the interior with the purest gold.

Domum quoque majorem texit tabulis ligneis abiegnis,Also, he covered the greater house with wooden panels of spruce,et laminas auri obrizi affixit per totum:and he affixed layers of refined gold through it all.sculpsitque in ea palmas,And he engraved in them palm trees,et quasi catenulas se invicem complectentes.and the likeness of little chains interlaced with one another.

Stravit quoque pavimentum templi pretiosissimo marmore,Also, he paved the floor of the temple with the most precious marble, decore multo.of great beauty.

Porro aurum erat probatissimum,Now the gold,de cujus laminis texit domum, et trabes ejus, et postes, with which he covered in layers the house and its beams and posts and walls and doors,et parietes, et ostia:was highly refined.et cælavit cherubim in parietibus. And he engraved cherubim on the walls.

Fecit quoque domum Sancti sanctorum:Also, he made the house of the Holy of Holies.longitudinem juxta latitudinem domus cubitorum viginti:Its length, in accord with the width of the temple, was of twenty cubits.et latitudinem similiter viginti cubitorum:And its width, similarly, was of twenty cubits.et laminis aureis texit eam,And he covered it with layers of gold, quasi talentis sexcentis.of about six hundred talents.

SedThen he also made nails of gold,et clavos fecit aureos, such that each nail weighed fifty shekels.ita ut singuli clavi siclos quinquagenos appenderent:Also,cœnacula quoque texit auro.he covered the upper rooms in gold.

Fecit etiam in domo Sancti sanctorum cherubim duos,Now he also made, in the house of the Holy of Holies, opere statuario:two cherubim as a work of statues.et texit eos auro. And he covered them with gold.

Alæ cherubim viginti cubitis extendebantur,The wings of the cherubim extended for twenty cubits, ita ut una ala haberet cubitos quinquesuch that one wing had five cubits and it touched the wall of the house,et tangeret parietem domus:and the other,et altera quinque cubitos habens, having five cubits, alam tangeret alterius cherub.touched the wing of the other cherub.

Similiter cherub alterius ala, quinque habebat cubitos,Similarly, the wing of the other cherub was five cubits,et tangebat parietem:and it touched the wall,et ala ejus altera quinque cubitorum, alam cherub alterius contingebat.and his other wing of five cubits also touched the wing of the other cherub.

Igitur alæ utriusque cherubim expansæ erant et extendebantur per cubitos viginti:And so the wings of both cherubim were stretched out and extended for twenty cubits.ipsi autem stabant erectis pedibus,Now they were standing upright on their feet,et facies eorum erant versæ ad exteriorem domum.and their faces were turned toward the exterior house.

Fecit quoque velum ex hyacintho,Also, he made a veil from hyacinth, purpura, purple, cocco, scarlet,et bysso:and fine linen.et intexuit ei cherubim. And he wove within it cherubim.

Ante fores etiam templi duas columnas,And also,quæ trigintabefore the doors of the temple,et quinque cubitos habebant altitudinis:there were two pillars, porro capita earum, having a height of thirty-five cubits.quinque cubitorum. But their heads were of five cubits.

NecnonThen too,et quasi catenulas in oraculo, there were something like little chains on the oracle,et superposuit eas capitibus columnarum:and he placed these upon the heads of the pillars.malogranata etiam centum,And there were one hundred pomegranates,quæ catenulis interposuit.which he placed between the little chains.

Ipsas quoque columnas posuit in vestibulo templi,Also, he placed these pillars in the vestibule of the temple, unam a dextris, one to the right,et alteram a sinistris:and the other to the left.eam quæ a dextris erat,The one that was on the right, vocavit Jachin:he called Jachin;et quæ ad lævam, Booz.and the one that was on the left, Boaz.
