Alleluja.Alleluia.Confitemini Domino,Confess to the Lord, quoniam bonus, for he is good, quoniam in sæculum misericordia ejus.for his mercy is with every generation.

Dicant qui redempti sunt a Domino,Let those who have been redeemed by the Lord say so:quos redemit de manu inimici, those whom he redeemed from the hand of the enemyet de regionibus congregavit eos,and gathered from the regions,

a solis ortu, from the rising of the sunet occasu, and its setting,ab aquilone, from the northet mari.and from the sea.

Erraverunt in solitudine, in inaquoso; They wandered into solitude in a waterless place.viam civitatis habitaculi non invenerunt. They did not find the way of the city to be their dwelling place.

EsurientesThey were hungry,et sitientes, and they were thirsty.anima eorum in ipsis defecit.Their soul fainted within them.

Et clamaverunt ad Dominum cum tribularentur,And they cried out to the Lord in tribulation,et de necessitatibus eorum eripuit eos;and he rescued them in their necessity.

et deduxit eos in viam rectam,And he led them in the right way,ut irent in civitatem habitationis.so that they might go forth to a city of habitation.

Confiteantur Domino misericordiæ ejus,Let his mercies confess to the Lord,et mirabilia ejus filiis hominum.and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.

Quia satiavit animam inanem,For he has satisfied the empty soul,et animam esurientem satiavit bonis.and he has satisfied the hungry soul with good things:

Sedentes in tenebris et umbra mortis;those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, vinctos in mendicitate et ferro.shackled by extreme poverty and by iron.

Quia exacerbaverunt eloquia Dei,For they exasperated the eloquence of God,et consilium Altissimi irritaverunt.and they irritated the deliberation of the Most High.

Et humiliatum est in laboribus cor eorum; And their heart was brought low with hardships.infirmati sunt,They were weakened, nec fuit qui adjuvaret.and there was no one to help them.

Et clamaverunt ad Dominum cum tribularentur; And they cried out to the Lord in their tribulation,et de necessitatibus eorum liberavit eos.and he freed them from their distress.

Et eduxit eos de tenebris et umbra mortis,And he led them out of darkness and the shadow of death,et vincula eorum dirupit.and he broke apart their chains.

Confiteantur Domino misericordiæ ejus,Let his mercies confess to the Lord,et mirabilia ejus filiis hominum.and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.

Quia contrivit portas æreas,For he has crushed the gates of brasset vectes ferreos confregit.and broken the iron bars.

Suscepit eos de via iniquitatis eorum; He has taken them up, from the way of their iniquity.propter injustitias enim suas humiliati sunt. For they were brought low, because of their injustices.

Omnem escam abominata est anima eorum,Their soul abhorred all food,et appropinquaverunt usque ad portas mortis.and they drew near even to the gates of death.

Et clamaverunt ad Dominum cum tribularentur,And they cried out to the Lord in their tribulation,et de necessitatibus eorum liberavit eos.and he delivered them in their necessity.

Misit verbum suum,He sent his word,et sanavit eos,and he healed them,et eripuit eos de interitionibus eorum.and he rescued them from their utter destruction.

Confiteantur Domino misericordiæ ejus,Let his mercies confess to the Lord,et mirabilia ejus filiis hominum.and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.

Et sacrificent sacrificium laudis,And let them offer sacrifice with the sacrifice of praise,et annuntient opera ejus in exsultatione.and let them announce his works in exultation.

Qui descendunt mare in navibus,Those who descend to the sea in ships, facientes operationem in aquis multis:making their livelihood in the great waters:

ipsi viderunt opera Domini, these have seen the works of the Lordet mirabilia ejus in profundo.and his wonders in the deep.

Dixit,He spoke:et stetit spiritus procellæ,and a windstorm stood up,et exaltati sunt fluctus ejus.and its waves were exalted.

Ascendunt usque ad cælos,They ascend even to the heavens,et descendunt usque ad abyssos;and they descend even to the abyss.anima eorum in malis tabescebat.Their soul will waste away in distress.

Turbati sunt,They were troubled,et moti sunt sicut ebrius, and they moved like a drunkard,et omnis sapientia eorum devorata est.and all their wisdom was consumed.

Et clamaverunt ad Dominum cum tribularentur; And they cried out to the Lord in their tribulation,et de necessitatibus eorum eduxit eos.and he led them out of their distress.

Et statuit procellam ejus in auram,And he replaced the storm with a breeze,et siluerunt fluctus ejus.and its waves were stilled.

Et lætati sunt quia siluerunt; And they were joyful that it was stilled,et deduxit eos in portum voluntatis eorum.and he led them into the haven that they desired.

Confiteantur Domino misericordiæ ejus,Let his mercies confess to the Lord,et mirabilia ejus filiis hominum.and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.

Et exaltent eum in ecclesia plebis,And let them exalt him in the Church of the people,et in cathedra seniorum laudent eum.and praise him in the chair of the elders.

Posuit flumina in desertum,He has placed rivers in the desertet exitus aquarum in sitim;and sources of water in dry places,

terram fructiferam in salsuginem,a fruit-bearing land in the midst of brine,a malitia inhabitantium in ea.before the malice of those who dwell in it.

Posuit desertum in stagna aquarum,He has placed a desert in the midst of pools of waters,et terram sine aqua in exitus aquarum.and a land without water in the midst of sources of water.

Et collocavit illic esurientes,And he has gathered the hungry together there,et constituerunt civitatem habitationis:and they constructed a city of habitation.

et seminaverunt agros et plantaverunt vineas,And they sowed fields and planted vineyards,et fecerunt fructum nativitatis.and they produced the fruit of nativity.

Et benedixit eis,And he blessed them,et multiplicati sunt nimis;and they were multiplied exceedingly.et jumenta eorum non minoravit. And he did not diminish their beasts of burden.

Et pauci facti sunt et vexati sunt,And they became few,a tribulatione malorum et dolore.and they were afflicted by the tribulation of evils and of sorrow.

Effusa est contemptio super principes:Contempt was poured over their leaders,et errare fecit eos in invio, and he caused them to wander in an impassable place,et non in via.and not on the way.

Et adjuvit pauperem de inopia,And he helped the poor out of destitution,et posuit sicut oves familias.and he stationed families like sheep.

Videbunt recti,The upright will see,et lætabuntur;and they will rejoice.et omnis iniquitas oppilabit os suum. And every iniquity will block its mouth.

Quis sapiens,Who is wiseet custodiet hæc,and will keep these things?et intelliget misericordias Domini? And who will understand the mercies of the Lord?
