In finem.Unto the end.Psalmus David.A Psalm of David.
Deus,O God,laudem meam ne tacueris,do not be silent toward my praise, quia os peccatoris et os dolosi super me apertum est.for the mouth of the sinner and the mouth of the deceitful one have been opened against me.
Locuti sunt adversum me lingua dolosa,They have spoken against me with deceitful tongues,et sermonibus odii circumdederunt me:and they have surrounded me with hateful words,et expugnaverunt me gratis.and they fought against me over nothing.
Pro eo ut me diligerent,Instead of choosing to act on my behalf, detrahebant mihi;they detracted me.ego autem orabam. But I gave myself to prayer.
Et posuerunt adversum me mala pro bonis,And they set evil against me, instead of good,et odium pro dilectione mea.and hatred, in return for my love.
Constitue super eum peccatorem,Establish the sinner over him,et diabolus stet a dextris ejus.and let the devil stand at his right hand.
Cum judicatur,When he is judged, exeat condemnatus;may he go forth in condemnation,et oratio ejus fiat in peccatum.and may his prayer be counted as sin.
Fiant dies ejus pauci,May his days be few,et episcopatum ejus accipiat alter.and let another take his episcopate.
Fiant filii ejus orphani,May his sons be orphans,et uxor ejus vidua.and his wife a widow.
Nutantes transferantur filii ejusMay his sons be carried by those who walk unsteadily,et mendicent, and may they go begging.et ejiciantur de habitationibus suis. And may they be cast out of their dwelling places.
Scrutetur fœnerator omnem substantiam ejus,May the money lenders scrutinize all his belongings,et diripiant alieni labores ejus.and let foreigners plunder his labors.
Non sit illi adjutor,May there be no one to assist him,nec sit qui misereatur pupillis ejus.nor anyone to be compassionate to his orphaned children.
Fiant nati ejus in interitum;May his posterity be in utter ruin.in generatione una deleatur nomen ejus.In one generation, may his name be wiped away.
In memoriam redeat iniquitas patrum ejus in conspectu Domini,May the iniquity of his fathers return in memory before the sight of the Lord,et peccatum matris ejus non deleatur.and do not let the sin of his mother be wiped away.
Fiant contra Dominum semper,May these be opposite the Lord always,et dispereat de terra memoria eorum:but let their memory perish from the earth.
pro eo quod non est recordatus facere misericordiam,For certain things are not remembered about them, in order to be merciful.
et persecutus est hominem inopem et mendicum,And so the destitute man was pursued,et compunctum corde, with the beggar and the remorseful in heart, mortificare.so as to be put to death.
Et dilexit maledictionem,And he loved a curse,et veniet ei;and it came to him.et noluit benedictionem,And he was unwilling to have a blessing,et elongabitur ab eo.and it went far from him.Et induit maledictionem sicut vestimentum; And he clothed himself with curses like a garment,et intravit sicut aqua in interiora ejus, and it entered his inner self like water,et sicut oleum in ossibus ejus.and it entered his bones like oil.
Fiat ei sicut vestimentum quo operitur,May it be to him like a garment that covers him,et sicut zona qua semper præcingitur.and like a belt that always cinches him.
Hoc opus eorum qui detrahunt mihi apud Dominum,This is the work of those who detract me with the Lordet qui loquuntur mala adversus animam meam.and who speak evils against my soul.
Et tu,But as for you,Domine,Lord,Domine,O Lord:fac mecum propter nomen tuum, act on my behalf for your name’s sake.quia suavis est misericordia tua.For your mercy is sweet.
Libera me,Free me,quia egenus et pauper ego sum,for I am destitute and poor,et cor meum conturbatum est intra me.and my heart has been disquieted within me.
Sicut umbra cum declinat ablatus sum,I have been taken away like a shadow when it declines,et excussus sum sicut locustæ.and I have been shaken off like locusts.
Genua mea infirmata sunt a jejunio,My knees have been weakened by fasting,et caro mea immutata est propter oleum.and my flesh has been replaced by oil.
Et ego factus sum opprobrium illis; And I have become a disgrace to them.viderunt me,They saw me,et moverunt capita sua.and they shook their heads.
Adjuva me,Help me,Domine Deus meus;O Lord, my God.salvum me fac secundum misericordiam tuam.Save me according to your mercy.
Et sciant quia manus tua hæc,And let them know that this is your hand,et tu,and that you,Domine,O Lord, fecisti eam.have done this.
Maledicent illi,They will curse,et tu benedices:and you will bless.qui insurgunt in me confundantur;May those who rise up against me be confounded.servus autem tuus lætabitur. But your servant will rejoice.
Induantur qui detrahunt mihi pudore,May those who detract me be clothed with shame,et operiantur sicut diploide confusione sua.and may they be covered with their confusion, as if with a double cloak.
Confitebor Domino nimis in ore meo,I will confess exceedingly to the Lord with my mouth.et in medio multorum laudabo eum:And I will praise him in the midst of the multitude.
quia astitit a dextris pauperis,For he stands at the right hand of the poor,ut salvam faceret a persequentibus animam meam.in order to save my soul from persecutors.
