Quare fremuerunt gentes,Why have the Gentiles been seething,et populi meditati sunt inania?and why have the people been pondering nonsense?

Astiterunt reges terræ,The kings of the earth have stood up,et principes convenerunt in unum adversus Dominum, and the leaders have joined together as one,et adversus christum ejus.against the Lord and against his Christ:

Dirumpamus vincula eorum,“Let us shatter their chainset projiciamus a nobis jugum ipsorum.and cast their yoke away from us.”

Qui habitat in cælis irridebit eos,He who dwells in heaven will ridicule them,et Dominus subsannabit eos.and the Lord will mock them.

Tunc loquetur ad eos in ira sua,Then will he speak to them in his angeret in furore suo conturbabit eos.and trouble them with his fury.

Ego autem constitutus sum rex ab eo super Sion,Yet I have been appointed king by him over Zion, montem sanctum ejus, his holy mountain,prædicans præceptum ejus.preaching his precepts.

Dominus dixit ad me:The Lord has said to me:Filius meus es tu;You are my son,ego hodie genui te.this day have I begotten you.

Postula a me,Ask of me and I will give to you:et dabo tibi gentes hæreditatem tuam, the Gentiles for your inheritance,et possessionem tuam terminos terræ.and the ends of the earth for your possession.

Reges eos in virga ferrea,You will rule them with an iron rod,et tamquam vas figuli confringes eos.and you will shatter them like a potter’s vessel.

Et nunc,And now,reges,O kings,intelligite;understand.erudimini,Receive instruction,qui judicatis terram.you who judge the earth.

Servite Domino in timore,Serve the Lord in fear,et exsultate ei cum tremore.and exult in him with trembling.

Apprehendite disciplinam,Embrace discipline, nequando irascatur Dominus, lest at any time the Lord might become angry,et pereatis de via justa.and you would perish from the way of the just.

Cum exarserit in brevi ira ejus,Though his wrath can flare up in a short time, beati omnes qui confidunt in eo.blessed are all those who trust in him.
