In finem.Unto the end.Servo Domini ipsi David. To the servant of the Lord, David himself.
Dixit injustus ut delinquat in semetipso:The unjust one has said within himself that he would commit offenses.non est timor Dei ante oculos ejus. There is no fear of God before his eyes.
Quoniam dolose egit in conspectu ejus,For he has acted deceitfully in his sight,ut inveniatur iniquitas ejus ad odium.such that his iniquity will be found to be hatred.
Verba oris ejus iniquitas,The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit.et dolus; He is unwilling to understand, noluit intelligere ut bene ageret.so that he may act well.
Iniquitatem meditatus est in cubili suo; astitit omni viæ non bonæ:He has been considering iniquity on his bed. He has set himself on every way that is not good;malitiam autem non odivit.moreover, he has not hated evil.
Domine,Lord,in cælo misericordia tua, your mercy is in heaven,et veritas tua usque ad nubes.and your truth is even to the clouds.
Justitia tua sicut montes Dei;Your justice is like the mountains of God.judicia tua abyssus multa.Your judgments are a great abyss.HominesMen and beasts,et jumenta salvabis, you will save,Domine,O Lord.
quemadmodum multiplicasti misericordiam tuam,How you have multiplied your mercy,Deus.O God!Filii autem hominum in tegmine alarum tuarum sperabunt. And so the sons of men will hope under the cover of your wings.
Inebriabuntur ab ubertate domus tuæ,They will be inebriated with the fruitfulness of your house,et torrente voluptatis tuæ potabis eos:and you will give them to drink from the torrent of your enjoyment.
quoniam apud te est fons vitæ,For with you is the fountain of life;et in lumine tuo videbimus lumen.and within your light, we will see the light.
Prætende misericordiam tuam scientibus te,Extend your mercy before those who know you,et justitiam tuam his qui recto sunt corde.and your justice to these, who are upright in heart.
Non veniat mihi pes superbiæ,May arrogant feet not approach me,et manus peccatoris non moveat me.and may the hand of the sinner not disturb me.
Ibi ceciderunt qui operantur iniquitatem; In that place, those who work iniquity have fallen.expulsi sunt,They have been expelled;nec potuerunt stare.they were not able to stand.
