Psalmus ipsi David.A Psalm of David himself.Noli æmulari in malignantibus,Do not choose to imitate the malicious;neque zelaveris facientes iniquitatem:neither should you envy those who work iniquity.
quoniam tamquam fœnum velociter arescent,For they will quickly wither away like dry grass,et quemadmodum olera herbarum cito decident.and in like manner to kitchen herbs, they will soon droop.
Spera in Domino,Hope in the Lordet fac bonitatem;and do good,et inhabita terram, and dwell in the land,et pasceris in divitiis ejus.and so you shall be pastured with its riches.
Delectare in Domino,Delight in the Lord,et dabit tibi petitiones cordis tui.and he will grant to you the petitions of your heart.
Revela Domino viam tuam,Reveal your way to the Lord,et spera in eo,and hope in him,et ipse faciet.and he will accomplish it.
Et educet quasi lumen justitiam tuam,And he will bring forth your justice like the light,et judicium tuum tamquam meridiem.and your judgment like the midday.
Subditus esto Domino,Be subject to the Lordet ora eum.and pray to him.Noli æmulari in eo qui prosperatur in via sua;Do not choose to compete with him who prospers in his way,in homine faciente injustitias.with the man who does injustice.
Desine ab ira,Cease from wrathet derelinque furorem;and leave behind rage.noli æmulari ut maligneris.Do not choose to imitate the malicious.
Quoniam qui malignantur exterminabuntur; For those who are malicious will be exterminated.sustinentes autem Dominum,But those who remain with the Lord, ipsi hæreditabunt terram.these will inherit the land.
Et adhuc pusillum,Yet still a little while,et non erit peccator;and the sinner will not be.et quæres locum ejus,And you will search his placeet non invenies.and find nothing.
Mansueti autem hæreditabunt terram,But the meek shall inherit the earth,et delectabuntur in multitudine pacis.and they will delight in the multitude of peace.
Observabit peccator justum,The sinner will observe the just,et stridebit super eum dentibus suis.and he will gnash his teeth over him.
Dominus autem irridebit eum,But the Lord will laugh at him:quoniam prospicit quod veniet dies ejus.for he knows in advance that his day will come.
Gladium evaginaverunt peccatores; The sinners have drawn the sword, intenderunt arcum suum:they have bent their bow,ut dejiciant pauperem et inopem,so as to cast down the poor and the needy,ut trucident rectos corde.so as to massacre the upright of heart.
Gladius eorum intret in corda ipsorum,Let their sword enter into their own hearts,et arcus eorum confringatur.and let their bow be broken.
Melius est modicum justo, super divitias peccatorum multas:A little is better to the just than the many riches of sinners.
quoniam brachia peccatorum conterentur:For the arms of sinners will be crushed, confirmat autem justos Dominus.but the Lord confirms the just.
Novit Dominus dies immaculatorum,The Lord knows the days of the immaculate,et hæreditas eorum in æternum erit.and their inheritance will be in eternity.
Non confundentur in tempore malo,They will not be confounded in an evil time;et in diebus famis saturabuntur:and in days of famine, they will be satisfied:
quia peccatores peribunt.for sinners will perish. Truly,Inimici vero Domini mox ut honorificati fuerint et exaltati, the adversaries of the Lord, soon after they have been honored and exalted, deficientes quemadmodum fumus deficient.will fade away, in the same way that smoke fades away.
Mutuabitur peccator, et non solvet; The sinner will lend and not release, justus autem miseretur et tribuet:but the just one shows compassion and donates.
quia benedicentes ei hæreditabunt terram; For those who bless him will inherit the earth, maledicentes autem ei disperibunt.but those who curse him will perish.
Apud Dominum gressus hominis dirigentur,The steps of a man will be directed by the Lord,et viam ejus volet.and he will choose his way.
Cum ceciderit,When he falls, non collidetur,he will not be harmed, quia Dominus supponit manum suam.because the Lord places his hand under him.
Junior fui,I have been young, etenim senui;and now I am old;et non vidi justum derelictum, and I have not seen the just forsaken, nec semen ejus quærens panem.nor his offspring seeking bread.
Tota die misereturHe shows compassion and lends,et commodat;all day long,et semen illius in benedictione erit.and his offspring will be in blessing.
Declina a malo, et fac bonum,Turn away from evil and do good,et inhabita in sæculum sæculi:and dwell forever and ever.
quia Dominus amat judicium,For the Lord loves judgment,et non derelinquet sanctos suos:and he will not abandon his saints.in æternum conservabuntur. They will be kept safe in eternity.Injusti punientur,The unjust will be punished,et semen impiorum peribit.and the offspring of the impious will perish.
Justi autem hæreditabunt terram,But the just will inherit the earth,et inhabitabunt in sæculum sæculi super eam.and they will dwell upon it forever and ever.
Os justi meditabitur sapientiam,The mouth of the just one will express wisdom,et lingua ejus loquetur judicium.and his tongue will speak judgment.
Lex Dei ejus in corde ipsius,The law of his God is in his heart,et non supplantabuntur gressus ejus.and his steps shall not be supplanted.
Considerat peccator justum,The sinner considers the just oneet quærit mortificare eum.and seeks to put him to death.
Dominus autem non derelinquet eum in manibus ejus,But the Lord will not abandon him into his hands, nec damnabit eum cum judicabitur illi.nor condemn him, when he will be judged.
Exspecta Dominum,Wait for the Lord,et custodi viam ejus, and keep to his way.et exaltabit te ut hæreditate capias terram:And he will exalt you, so as to inherit the land that you may seize.cum perierint peccatores, videbis. When the sinners will have passed away, then you shall see.
Vidi impium superexaltatum,I have seen the impious over-exalted,et elevatum sicut cedros Libani:and lifted up like the cedars of Lebanon.
et transivi,And I passed by,et ecce non erat;and behold, he was not.et quæsivi eum,And I sought him,et non est inventus locus ejus.and his place was not found.
Custodi innocentiam,Keep to innocence,et vide æquitatem, and gaze upon fairness:quoniam sunt reliquiæ homini pacifico.because there are allotments for the peaceful man.
Injusti autem disperibunt simul; But the unjust will be destroyed together:reliquiæ impiorum interibunt.the allotments of the impious will pass away.
Salus autem justorum a Domino; But the salvation of the just is from the Lord,et protector eorum in tempore tribulationis.and he is their protector in time of tribulation.
Et adjuvabit eos Dominus,And the Lord will help themet liberabit eos;and free them.et eruet eos a peccatoribus,And he will rescue them from sinnerset salvabit eos,and save them, quia speraverunt in eo.because they have hoped in him.
