In finem.Unto the end.Psalmus ipsi David.A Psalm of David himself.

Exspectans exspectavi Dominum,I have waited expectantly for the Lord,et intendit mihi.and he was attentive to me.

Et exaudivit preces meas, et eduxit me de lacu miseriæ et de luto fæcis. And he heard my prayers and he led me out of the pit of misery and the quagmire.Et statuit super petram pedes meos,And he stationed my feet upon a rock,et direxit gressus meos.and he directed my steps.

Et immisit in os meum canticum novum,And he sent a new canticle into my mouth, carmen Deo nostro.a song to our God.Videbunt multi,Many will see,et timebunt, and they will fear;et sperabunt in Domino.and they will hope in the Lord.

Beatus vir cujus est nomen Domini spes ejus,Blessed is the man whose hope is in the name of the Lord,et non respexit in vanitates et insanias falsas.and who has no respect for vanities and absurd falsehoods.

Multa fecisti tu,You have accomplished your many wonders,Domine Deus meus,O Lord my God,mirabilia tua;and there is no one similar to you in your thoughts.et cogitationibus tuis non est qui similis sit tibi.I have announcedAnnuntiavi et locutus sum:and I have spoken:multiplicati sunt super numerum.they are multiplied beyond number.

SacrificiumSacrifice and oblation,et oblationem noluisti;you did not want.aures autem perfecisti mihi. But you have perfected ears for me.HolocaustumHolocaust and sin offering,et pro peccato non postulasti;you did not require.

tunc dixi:Then I said,Ecce venio.“Behold, I draw near.”In capite libri scriptum est de me,At the head of the book, it has been written of me:

ut facerem voluntatem tuam.that I should do your will.Deus meus,My God,volui,I have willed it.et legem tuam in medio cordis mei.And your law is in the midst of my heart.

Annuntiavi justitiam tuam in ecclesia magna;I have announced your justice in a great Church: behold, ecce labia mea non prohibebo:I will not restrain my lips. O Lord,Domine, tu scisti.you have known it.

Justitiam tuam non abscondi in corde meo;I have not concealed your justice within my heart.veritatem tuam et salutare tuum dixi;I have spoken your truth and your salvation.non abscondi misericordiam tuam et veritatem tuam a concilio multo.I have not concealed your mercy and your truth from a great assembly.

Tu autem,O Lord,Domine,do not take your tender mercies far from me.ne longe facias miserationes tuas a me;Your mercymisericordia tua et veritas tua semper susceperunt me.and your truth ever sustain me.

Quoniam circumdederunt me mala quorum non est numerus; For evils without number have surrounded me.comprehenderunt me iniquitates meæ,My iniquities have taken hold of me,et non potui ut viderem.and I was not able to see.Multiplicatæ sunt super capillos capitis mei,They have been multiplied beyond the hairs of my head.et cor meum dereliquit me.And my heart has forsaken me.

Complaceat tibi,Be pleased,Domine,O Lord,ut eruas me; Domine,to rescue me. Look down,ad adjuvandum me respice.O Lord, to help me.

Confundantur et revereantur simul,Let them together be confounded and awed, qui quærunt animam meam ut auferant eam;who seek after my soul to steal it away.convertantur retrorsum et revereantur,Let them be turned back and be in awe,qui volunt mihi mala.who wish evils upon me.

Ferant confestim confusionem suam,Let them bear their confusion all at once, qui dicunt mihi:who say to me,Euge,“Well, euge!well.”

Exsultent et lætentur super te omnes quærentes te;Let all who seek you exultet dicant semper:and rejoice over you.Magnificetur Dominus,And let those who love your salvation always say,qui diligunt salutare tuum.“May the Lord be magnified.”

Ego autem mendicus sum et pauper; But I am a beggar and poor.Dominus sollicitus est mei.The Lord has been concerned about me.Adjutor meus et protector meus tu es;You are my helper and my protector.Deus meus,My God,ne tardaveris.do not delay.
