In finem.Unto the end.Filiis Core ad intellectum. To the sons of Korah, toward understanding.

Deus,We have heard, auribus nostris audivimus,O God,patres nostri annuntiaverunt nobis, with our own ears.opus quod operatus es in diebus eorum,Our fathers have announced to us the work that you wrought in their dayset in diebus antiquis.and in the days of antiquity.

Manus tua gentes disperdidit,Your hand dispersed the Gentiles,et plantasti eos;and you transplanted them.afflixisti populos,You afflicted a people,et expulisti eos.and you expelled them.

Nec enim in gladio suo possederunt terram,For they did not take possession of the land by their sword,et brachium eorum non salvavit eos:and their own arm did not save them.sed dextera tua et brachium tuum,But your right hand and your arm,et illuminatio vultus tui,and the light of your countenance did so,quoniam complacuisti in eis.because you were pleased with them.

Tu es ipse rex meus et Deus meus,You yourself are my king and my God,qui mandas salutes Jacob.who commands the salvation of Jacob.

In te inimicos nostros ventilabimus cornu,With you, we will brandish a horn before our enemies;et in nomine tuo spernemus insurgentes in nobis.and in your name, we will spurn those rising up against us.

Non enim in arcu meo sperabo,For I will not hope in my bow,et gladius meus non salvabit me:and my sword will not save me.

salvasti enim nos de affligentibus nos,For you have saved us from those who afflict us,et odientes nos confudisti.and you have bewildered those who hate us.

In Deo laudabimur tota die,In God, we will give praise all day long;et in nomine tuo confitebimur in sæculum.and in your name, we will confess forever.

Nunc autem repulisti et confudisti nos,But now,et non egredieris, you have rejected and bewildered us,Deus, and you will not go forth with our armies,in virtutibus nostris.O God.

Avertisti nos retrorsum post inimicos nostros,You have turned our back to our enemies,et qui oderunt nos diripiebant sibi.and those who hated us have plundered for themselves.

Dedisti nos tamquam oves escarum,You have given us over like sheep for food.et in gentibus dispersisti nos.You have scattered us among the Gentiles.

Vendidisti populum tuum sine pretio,You have sold your people without a price,et non fuit multitudo in commutationibus eorum.and no great number was exchanged for them.

Posuisti nos opprobrium vicinis nostris; You have set us as a disgrace to our neighbors, subsannationem et derisum his qui sunt in circuitu nostro.a scoff and a derision to those who are around us.

Posuisti nos in similitudinem gentibus; You have set us as a parable among the Gentiles, commotionem capitis in populis.a shaking of the head among the peoples.

Tota die verecundia mea contra me est,All day long my shame is before me,et confusio faciei meæ cooperuit me:and the confusion of my face has covered me,

a voce exprobrantis et obloquentis, before the voice of the reproacher and the commentator,a facie inimici et persequentis.before the face of the adversary and the pursuer.

Hæc omnia venerunt super nos;All these things have come upon us,nec obliti sumus te,yet we have not forgotten you,et inique non egimus in testamento tuo.and we have not acted unjustly in your covenant.

Et non recessit retro cor nostrum; And our heart has not turned back.et declinasti semitas nostras a via tua:And you have not diverted our steps from your way.

quoniam humiliasti nos in loco afflictionis,For you humbled us in a place of affliction,et cooperuit nos umbra mortis.and the shadow of death has covered us.

Si obliti sumus nomen Dei nostri,If we have forgotten the name of our God,et si expandimus manus nostras ad deum alienum, and if we have extended our hands to a foreign god,

nonne Deus requiret ista?will not God find this out?ipse enim novit abscondita cordis. For he knows the secrets of the heart. For,Quoniam propter te mortificamur tota die;because of you, we are being killed all day long.æstimati sumus sicut oves occisionis. We are considered as sheep for the slaughter.

Exsurge;Rise up.quare obdormis,Why do you fall asleep,Domine?O Lord?exsurge,Rise up,et ne repellas in finem.and do not reject us in the end.

Quare faciem tuam avertis? Why do you turn your face away, oblivisceris inopiæ nostræ et tribulationis nostræ?and why do you forget our needfulness and our tribulation?

Quoniam humiliata est in pulvere anima nostra; For our soul has been humbled into the dust.conglutinatus est in terra venter noster. Our belly has been bound to the earth.

Exsurge,Rise up,Domine,O Lord.adjuva nos,Help us and redeem us,et redime nos propter nomen tuum.because of your name.
