In finem.Unto the end.Psalmus David.A Psalm of David.
Exaudi,Hear,Deus,O God,orationem meam cum deprecor;my prayer of supplication.a timore inimici eripe animam meam.Rescue my soul from the fear of the enemy.
Protexisti me a conventu malignantium,You have protected me from the assembly of the malignant,a multitudine operantium iniquitatem.from a multitude of workers of iniquity.
Quia exacuerunt ut gladium linguas suas;For they have sharpened their tongues like a sword;intenderunt arcum rem amaram,they have formed their bow into a bitter thing,
ut sagittent in occultis immaculatum.so that they may shoot arrows from hiding at the immaculate.
Subito sagittabunt eum,They will suddenly shoot arrows at him,et non timebunt;and they will not be afraid.firmaverunt sibi sermonem nequam.They are resolute in their wicked talk.Narraverunt ut absconderent laqueos;They have discussed hidden snares.dixerunt:They have said,Quis videbit eos?“Who will see them?”
Scrutati sunt iniquitates;They have been searching carefully for iniquities.defecerunt scrutantes scrutinio.Their exhaustive search has failed.Accedet homo ad cor altum,Man will approach with a deep heart,
et exaltabitur Deus.and God will be exalted.Sagittæ parvulorum factæ sunt plagæ eorum,The arrows of the little ones have become their wounds,
et infirmatæ sunt contra eos linguæ eorum.and their tongues have been weakened against them.Conturbati sunt omnes qui videbant eos,All those who saw them have been troubled;
et timuit omnis homo.and every man was afraid.Et annuntiaverunt opera Dei,And they announced the works of God,et facta ejus intellexerunt.and they understood his acts.
Lætabitur justus in Domino,The just will rejoice in the Lord,et sperabit in eo,and they will hope in him.et laudabuntur omnes recti corde.And all the upright of heart will be praised.
