Psalmus David,A Psalm of David.filiorum Jonadab,Of the sons of Jonadabet priorum captivorum.and the former captives. In te,In you,Domine,O Lord, speravi;I have hoped;non confundar in æternum.do not let me be brought to ruin forever.
In justitia tua libera me,Free me by your justice,et eripe me:and rescue me.inclina ad me aurem tuam,Incline your ear to me,et salva me.and save me.
Esto mihi in Deum protectorem, et in locum munitum,Be a God of protection and a place of strength for me,ut salvum me facias: quoniam firmamentum meum et refugium meum es tu.so that you may accomplish my salvation. For you are my firmament and my refuge.
Deus meus,Rescue me,eripe me de manu peccatoris,O my God,et de manu contra legem agentis, from the hand of the sinner,et iniqui:and from the hand of the unjust and those who act against the law.
quoniam tu es patientia mea,For you, O Lord,Domine; Domine, are my patience:spes mea a juventute mea.my hope from my youth, O Lord.
In te confirmatus sum ex utero; In you, I have been confirmed from conception.de ventre matris meæ tu es protector meus; From my mother’s womb, you are my protector.in te cantatio mea semper. In you, I will sing forever.
Tamquam prodigium factus sum multis;I have become to many as if I were a portent,et tu adjutor fortis.but you are a strong helper.
Repleatur os meum laude,Let my mouth be filled with praise,ut cantem gloriam tuam,so that I may sing your glory, tota die magnitudinem tuam.your greatness all day long.
Ne projicias me in tempore senectutis;Do not cast me off in the time of old age.cum defecerit virtus mea, ne derelinquas me.Do not abandon me when my strength will fail.
Quia dixerunt inimici mei mihi,For my enemies have spoken against me.et qui custodiebant animam meam consilium fecerunt in unum,And those who watched for my soul have taken counsel as one,
dicentes:saying:Deus dereliquit eum:“God has abandoned him.persequimini et comprehendite eum,Pursue and overtake him.quia non est qui eripiat. For there is no one to rescue him.”
Deus,O God,ne elongeris a me;do not be far from me.Deus meus,O my God,in auxilium meum respice.provide for my assistance.
Confundantur et deficiant detrahentes animæ meæ;May they be confounded, and may they fail, who drag down my soul.operiantur confusione et pudore qui quærunt mala mihi.Let them be covered with confusion and shame, who seek evils for me.
Ego autem semper sperabo,But I will always have hope.et adjiciam super omnem laudem tuam. And I will add more to all your praise.
Os meum annuntiabit justitiam tuam,My mouth will announce your justice, tota die salutare tuum.your salvation all day long.Quoniam non cognovi litteraturam,For I have not known letters.
introibo in potentias Domini;I will enter into the powers of the Lord.Domine,I will be mindful of your justice alone, memorabor justitiæ tuæ solius.O Lord.
Deus,You have taught me from my youth, docuisti me a juventute mea;O God.et usque nunc pronuntiabo mirabilia tua.And so I will declare your wonders continuously,
Et usque in senectam et senium, even in old age and with grey hairs.Deus,Do not abandon me,ne derelinquas me,O God,donec annuntiem brachium tuum generationi omni quæ ventura est, while I announce your arm to every future generation:potentiam tuam, your power
et justitiam tuam, and your justice,Deus,O God,usque in altissima; quæ fecisti magnalia, even to the highest great things that you have done.Deus:O God,quis similis tibi?who is like you?
Quantas ostendisti mihi tribulationes multas et malas! How great is the tribulation that you have revealed to me: very great and evil. And so,et conversus vivificasti me,turning back, you have brought me to life,et de abyssis terræ iterum reduxisti me.and you have led me back again from the abyss of the earth.
Multiplicasti magnificentiam tuam; You have multiplied your magnificence. And so,et conversus consolatus es me.turning back to me, you have consoled me.
Nam et ego confitebor tibi in vasis psalmi veritatem tuam,Therefore, I will confess your truth to you, with the instruments of the Psalter.Deus;O God,psallam tibi in cithara,I will sing psalms to you with stringed instruments, sanctus Israël.O Holy One of Israel.
Exsultabunt labia mea cum cantavero tibi;My lips will exult, when I sing to you,et anima mea quam redemisti.and also my soul, which you have redeemed.
Sed et lingua mea tota die meditabitur justitiam tuam,And even my tongue will meditate on your justice all day long, cum confusi et reveriti fuerint qui quærunt mala mihi.when those who seek evils for me have been confounded and set in awe.
