Psalmus Asaph.A Psalm of Asaph.Deus,O God,venerunt gentes in hæreditatem tuam;the Gentiles have entered into your inheritance;polluerunt templum sanctum tuum;they have polluted your holy temple.posuerunt Jerusalem in pomorum custodiam. They have set Jerusalem as a place to tend fruit trees.
Posuerunt morticina servorum tuorum escas volatilibus cæli;They have placed the dead bodies of your servants as food for the birds of the sky, carnes sanctorum tuorum bestiis terræ.the flesh of your saints for the beasts of the earth.
Effuderunt sanguinem eorum tamquam aquam in circuitu Jerusalem,They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem,et non erat qui sepeliret.and there was no one who would bury them.
Facti sumus opprobrium vicinis nostris; We have become a disgrace to our neighbors, subsannatio et illusio his qui in circuitu nostro sunt.an object of ridicule and mockery to those who are around us.
Usquequo,How long,Domine,O Lord?irasceris in finem? Will you be angry until the end?accendetur velut ignis zelus tuus? Will your zeal be kindled like a fire?
Effunde iram tuam in gentes quæ te non noverunt,Pour out your wrath among the Gentiles, who have not known you,et in regna quæ nomen tuum non invocaverunt:and upon the kingdoms that have not invoked your name.
quia comederunt Jacob,For they have devoured Jacob,et locum ejus desolaverunt.and they have desolated his place.
Ne memineris iniquitatum nostrarum antiquarum;Do not remember our iniquities of the past.cito anticipent nos misericordiæ tuæ,May your mercies quickly intercept us,quia pauperes facti sumus nimis.for we have become exceedingly poor.
Adjuva nos,Help us,Deus salutaris noster,O God,et propter gloriam nominis tui,our Savior.Domine,And free us,libera nos:Lord,et propitius esto peccatis nostris, for the glory of your name.propter nomen tuum. And forgive us our sins for the sake of your name.
Ne forte dicant in gentibus:Let them not say among the Gentiles,Ubi est Deus eorum?“Where is their God?”et innotescat in nationibus coram oculis nostris ultio sanguinis servorum tuorum qui effusus est.And may your name become known among the nations before our eyes. For the retribution of your servants’ blood, which has been poured out:
Introëat in conspectu tuo gemitus compeditorum;may the groans of the shackled enter before you.secundum magnitudinem brachii tui posside filios mortificatorum:According to the greatness of your arm, take possession of the sons of those who have been killed.
et redde vicinis nostris septuplum in sinu eorum; And repay our neighbors sevenfold within their sinews.improperium ipsorum quod exprobraverunt tibi,It is the reproach of the same ones who brought reproach against you,Domine.O Lord.
Nos autem populus tuus,But we are your people and the sheep of your pasture:et oves pascuæ tuæ,we will give thanks to you in all ages.confitebimur tibi in sæculum; From generation to generation,in generationem et generationem annuntiabimus laudem tuam.we will announce your praise.
