In finem,Unto the end.pro occultis filii. For the secrets of the Son.Psalmus David.A Psalm of David.
Confitebor tibi,I will confess to you,Domine,Lord,in toto corde meo;with my whole heart.narrabo omnia mirabilia tua.I will recount all your wonders.
Lætabor et exsultabo in te;I will rejoice and exult in you.psallam nomini tuo,I will sing a psalm to your name,Altissime.O Most High.
In convertendo inimicum meum retrorsum; For my enemy will be turned back.infirmabuntur,They will be weakenedet peribunt a facie tua.and perish before your face.
Quoniam fecisti judicium meum et causam meam; For you have accomplished my judgmentsedisti super thronum, and my cause.qui judicas justitiam. You have sat upon the throne that judges justice.
Increpasti gentes,You have rebuked the Gentiles,et periit impius:and the impious one has perished.nomen eorum delesti in æternum,You have deleted their name in eternityet in sæculum sæculi.and for all generations.
Inimici defecerunt frameæ in finem,The spears of the enemy have failed in the end,et civitates eorum destruxisti.and their cities, you have destroyed.Periit memoria eorum cum sonitu;Their memory has perished with a loud noise.
et Dominus in æternum permanet. But the Lord remains in eternity.Paravit in judicio thronum suum,He has prepared his throne in judgment.
et ipse judicabit orbem terræ in æquitate:And he will judge the whole world in equity.judicabit populos in justitia. He will judge the people in justice.
Et factus est Dominus refugium pauperi; And the Lord has become a refuge for the poor, adjutor in opportunitatibus,a helper in opportunity,in tribulatione.in tribulation.
Et sperent in te qui noverunt nomen tuum,And may they hope in you, who know your name.quoniam non dereliquisti quærentes te, Domine. For you have not abandoned those seeking you, Lord.
Psallite Domino qui habitat in Sion;Sing a psalm to the Lord, who dwells in Zion.annuntiate inter gentes studia ejus:Announce his study among the Gentiles.
quoniam requirens sanguinem eorum recordatus est;Because of those who yearned for their blood, he has remembered them.non est oblitus clamorem pauperum. He has not forgotten the cry of the poor.
Miserere mei,Have mercy on me,Domine:Lord.vide humilitatem meam de inimicis meis,See my humiliation from my enemies.
qui exaltas me de portis mortis,You lift me up from the gates of death,ut annuntiem omnes laudationes tuas in portis filiæ Sion:so that I may announce all your praises at the gates of the daughter of Zion.
exultabo in salutari tuo.I will exult in your salvation.Infixæ sunt gentes in interitu quem fecerunt; The Gentiles have become trapped in the ruin that they made.in laqueo isto quem absconderunt comprehensus est pes eorum.Their foot has been caught in the same snare that they themselves had hidden.
Cognoscetur Dominus judicia faciens; The Lord will be recognized when making judgments.in operibus manuum suarum comprehensus est peccator. The sinner has been caught in the works of his own hands. Pause
Convertantur peccatores in infernum,The sinners will be turned into Hell:omnes gentes quæ obliviscuntur Deum.all the Gentiles who have forgotten God.
Quoniam non in finem oblivio erit pauperis; For the poor will not be forgotten in the end.patientia pauperum non peribit in finem. The patience of the poor will not perish in the end.
Exsurge,Rise up,Domine;Lord:non confortetur homo:do not let man be strengthened.judicentur gentes in conspectu tuo.Let the Gentiles be judged in your sight.
Constitue,O Lord,Domine, establish a lawgiver over them, legislatorem super eos,so that the Gentiles may know that they are only men.ut sciant gentes quoniam homines sunt.Pause
Ut quid,So then, why,Domine, recessisti longe;O Lord, have you withdrawn far away?despicis in opportunitatibus, in tribulatione? Why have you overlooked us in opportunity, in tribulation?
Dum superbit impius,While the impious is arrogant, incenditur pauper:the poor is enflamed.comprehenduntur in consiliis quibus cogitant. They are held by the counsels that they devise.
Quoniam laudatur peccator in desideriis animæ suæ,For the sinner is praised by the desires of his soul,et iniquus benedicitur.and the iniquitous is blessed.
Exacerbavit Dominum peccator:The sinner has provoked the Lord;secundum multitudinem iræ suæ,according to the multitude of his wrath, non quæret.he will not seek him.
Non est Deus in conspectu ejus;God is not before his sight.inquinatæ sunt viæ illius in omni tempore. His ways are stained at all times.Auferuntur judicia tua a facie ejus;Your judgments are removed from his face.omnium inimicorum suorum dominabitur. He will be master of all his enemies.
Dixit enim in corde suo:For he has said in his heart,Non movebor a generatione in generationem,“I will not be disturbed:sine malo.from generation to generation without evil.”
Cujus maledictione os plenum est,His mouth is full of curses,et amaritudine, and bitterness,et dolo;and deceit.sub lingua ejus labor et dolor.Under his tongue are hardship and sorrow.
Sedet in insidiis cum divitibus in occultis,He sits in ambush, with resources in hidden places,ut interficiat innocentem.so that he may execute the innocent.
Oculi ejus in pauperem respiciunt; His eyes catch sight of the poor. He lies in ambush, insidiatur in abscondito, quasi leo in spelunca sua.in hiding like a lion in his den. He lies in ambush,Insidiatur ut rapiat pauperem;so that he may seize the poor, rapere pauperem dum attrahit eum.to seize the poor as he draws him in.
In laqueo suo humiliabit eum; With his snare, he will bring him down.inclinabit se, et cadet cum dominatus fuerit pauperum. He will crouch down and pounce, when he has power over the poor.
Dixit enim in corde suo:For he has said in his heart,Oblitus est Deus;“God has forgotten, avertit faciem suam,he has turned away his face,ne videat in finem.lest he see to the end.”
Exsurge,O Lord God,Domine Deus,rise up.exaltetur manus tua;Let your hand be exalted.ne obliviscaris pauperum.Do not forget the poor.
Propter quid irritavit impius Deum? How has the impious one provoked God?dixit enim in corde suo:For he has said in his heart,Non requiret.“He will not inquire.”
Vides,You do see, quoniam tu laborem et dolorem consideras, for you examine hardship and sorrow,ut tradas eos in manus tuas.so that you may deliver them into your hands.Tibi derelictus est pauper; The poor one has been abandoned to you.orphano tu eris adjutor. You will be a helper to the orphan.
Contere brachium peccatoris et maligni;Break the arm of the sinner and the malicious.quæretur peccatum illius,His sin will be sought,et non invenietur.and it will not be found.
Dominus regnabit in æternum,The Lord shall reign in eternity,et in sæculum sæculi;even forever and ever.peribitis, gentes, de terra illius. You will perish the Gentiles from his land.
Desiderium pauperum exaudivit Dominus; The Lord has heeded the desire of the poor.præparationem cordis eorum audivit auris tua:Your ear has listened to the preparation of their heart,
judicare pupillo et humili,so as to judge for the orphan and the humble,ut non apponat ultra magnificare se homo super terram.so that man may no longer presume to magnify himself upon the earth.
