Psalmus cantici,A Canticle Psalm.in die sabbati. On the day of the Sabbath.
Bonum est confiteri Domino,It is good to confess to the Lordet psallere nomini tuo,and to sing psalms to your name,Altissime:O Most High:
ad annuntiandum mane misericordiam tuam,to announce your mercy in the morning,et veritatem tuam per noctem, and your truth throughout the night,
in decachordo,upon the ten strings,psalterio;upon the psaltery,cum cantico,with a canticle,in cithara.upon stringed instruments.
Quia delectasti me,For you,Domine,O Lord,in factura tua;have delighted me with your doings,et in operibus manuum tuarum exsultabo.and I will exult in the works of your hands.
Quam magnificata sunt opera tua,How great are your works,Domine!O Lord!nimis profundæ factæ sunt cogitationes tuæ.Your thoughts have been made exceedingly deep.
Vir insipiens non cognoscet,A foolish man will not know these things,et stultus non intelliget hæc.and a senseless one will not understand:
Cum exorti fuerint peccatores sicut fœnum, when sinners will have risen up like grass,et apparuerint omnes qui operantur iniquitatem, and when all those who work iniquity will have appeared,ut intereant in sæculum sæculi:that they shall pass away, age after age.
tu autem Altissimus in æternum, Domine. But you, O Lord, are the Most High for all eternity.
Quoniam ecce inimici tui,For behold your enemies,Domine,O Lord, quoniam ecce inimici tui peribunt;for behold your enemies will perish,et dispergentur omnes qui operantur iniquitatem.and all those who work iniquity will be dispersed.
Et exaltabitur sicut unicornis cornu meum,And my horn will be exalted like that of the single-horned beast,et senectus mea in misericordia uberi.and my old age will be exalted in fruitful mercy.
Et despexit oculus meus inimicos meos,And my eye has looked down upon my enemies,et in insurgentibus in me malignantibus audiet auris mea.and my ear will hear of the malignant rising up against me.
Justus ut palma florebit; The just one will flourish like the palm tree.sicut cedrus Libani multiplicabitur. He will be multiplied like the cedar of Lebanon.
Plantati in domo Domini, in atriis domus Dei nostri florebunt. Those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in the courts of the house of our God.
Adhuc multiplicabuntur in senecta uberi,They will still be multiplied in a fruitful old age,et bene patientes erunt:and they will endure well,
ut annuntient quoniam rectus Dominus Deus noster,so that they may announce that the Lord our God is righteouset non est iniquitas in eo.and that there is no iniquity in him.
