Psalmus ipsi David,A Psalm of David himself.quarta sabbati. The Fourth Sabbath.Deus ultionum Dominus; The Lord is the God of retribution.Deus ultionum libere egit. The God of retribution acts in order to deliver.

Exaltare,Lift yourself up,qui judicas terram;for you judge the earth.redde retributionem superbis.Repay the arrogant with retribution.

Usquequo peccatores,How long will sinners,Domine,O Lord, usquequo peccatores gloriabuntur;how long will sinners glory?

effabuntur et loquentur iniquitatem; How long will they utter and speak iniquity?loquentur omnes qui operantur injustitiam? How long will all who work injustice speak out?

Populum tuum, Domine,They have humiliated your people, humiliaverunt, et hæreditatem tuam vexaverunt.O Lord, and they have harassed your inheritance.

Viduam et advenam interfecerunt,They have executed the widow and the new arrival,et pupillos occiderunt.and they have slaughtered the orphan.

Et dixerunt:And they have said,Non videbit Dominus,“The Lord will not see,nec intelliget Deus Jacob.nor will the God of Jacob understand.”

Intelligite,Understand, insipientes in populo;you senseless ones among the people.et stulti,And be wise at last, aliquando sapite.you foolish ones.

Qui plantavit aurem non audiet? He who formed the ear, will he not hear?aut qui finxit oculum non considerat? And he who forged the eye, does he not look closely?

Qui corripit gentes non arguet,He who chastises nations, qui docet hominem scientiam?he who teaches man knowledge, will he not rebuke?

Dominus scit cogitationes hominum,The Lord knows the thoughts of men:quoniam vanæ sunt.that these are in vain.

Beatus homo quem tu erudieris,Blessed is the man whom you will instruct,Domine,O Lord.et de lege tua docueris eum:And you will teach him from your law.

ut mitiges ei a diebus malis,So may you soothe him from the evil days, donec fodiatur peccatori fovea.until a pit may be dug for sinners.

Quia non repellet Dominus plebem suam,For the Lord will not drive away his people,et hæreditatem suam non derelinquet, and he will not abandon his inheritance,

quoadusque justitia convertatur in judicium:even until the time when justice is being converted into judgment,et qui juxta illam, omnes qui recto sunt corde.and when those who are close to justice are all those who are upright of heart.

Quis consurget mihi adversus malignantes?Who will rise up with me against the malignant?aut quis stabit mecum adversus operantes iniquitatem?Or who will stand with me against the workers of iniquity?

Nisi quia Dominus adjuvit me,Except that the Lord assisted me,paulominus habitasset in inferno anima mea.my soul almost would have dwelt in Hell.

Si dicebam:If ever I said,Motus est pes meus:“My foot is slipping,”misericordia tua,then your mercy,Domine,O Lord,adjuvabat me.assisted me.

Secundum multitudinem dolorum meorum in corde meo,According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, consolationes tuæ lætificaverunt animam meam.your consolations have given joy to my soul.

Numquid adhæret tibi sedes iniquitatis,Does the seat of iniquity adhere to you,qui fingis laborem in præcepto?you who contrive hardship within a commandment?

Captabunt in animam justi,They will hunt down the soul of the just,et sanguinem innocentem condemnabunt.and they will condemn innocent blood.

Et factus est mihi Dominus in refugium,And the Lord has been made into a refuge for me,et Deus meus in adjutorium spei meæ.and my God into the assistance of my hope.

Et reddet illis iniquitatem ipsorum,And he will repay them their iniquity,et in malitia eorum disperdet eos:and he will destroy them in their malice.disperdet illos Dominus Deus noster. The Lord our God will utterly destroy them.
