⁴¹Itaque omnes viri Israël concurrentes ad regem dixerunt ei:And so, all the men of Israel, running to the king,Quare te furati sunt fratres nostri viri Juda,said to him: “Why have our brothers, the men of Judah,et traduxerunt regem et domum ejus Jordanem,stolen you away. And why have they led the king and his house across the Jordan,omnesque viros David cum eo?and all the men of David with him?”

⁴²Et respondit omnis vir Juda ad viros Israël:And all the men of Judah responded to the men of Israel:Quia mihi propior est rex:“Because the king is nearer to me.cur irasceris super hac re?Why are you angry over this matter?numquid comedimus aliquid ex rege,Have we eaten anything belonging to the king,aut munera nobis data sunt?or have any gifts been given to us?”

⁴³Et respondit vir Israël ad viros Juda,And the men of Israel responded to the men of Judah,et ait:and said:Decem partibus major ego sum apud regem,“I have the greater amount, ten parts, with the king,magisque ad me pertinet David quam ad te:and so David belongs to me more so than to you.cur fecisti mihi injuriam,Why have you caused me injury,et non mihi nuntiatum est priori,and why was it not announced to me first,ut reducerem regem meum?so that I might lead back my king?”Durius autem responderunt viri Juda viris Israël.But the men of Judah answered more firmly than the men of Israel.
