In diebus ejus ascendit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis,During his days, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon,et factus est ei Joakim servus tribus annis:ascended, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years.et rursum rebellavit contra eum.And again he rebelled against him.

Immisitque ei Dominus latrunculos Chaldæorum,And the Lord sent to him the robbers of the Chaldeans,et latrunculos Syriæ,and the robbers of Syria,et latrunculos Moab, and the robbers of Moab,et latrunculos filiorum Ammon:and the robbers of the sons of Ammon.et immisit eos in Judam ut disperderent eum,And he sent them into Judah, so that they might destroy it,juxta verbum Domini quod locutus fuerat per servos suos prophetas.in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken through his servants, the prophets.

Factum est autem hoc per verbum Domini contra Judam,Then this occurred, by the word of the Lord against Judah,ut auferret eum coram se propter peccata Manasse universa quæ fecit, that he took him away from before himself because of all the sins of Manasseh which he did,

et propter sanguinem innoxium quem effudit, and because of the innocent blood which he shed,et implevit Jerusalem cruore innocentium:and because he filled Jerusalem with the slaughter of the innocent.et ob hanc rem noluit Dominus propitiari. And for this reason, the Lord was not willing to be appeased.

Reliqua autem sermonum Joakim,But the rest of the words of Jehoiakim,et universa quæ fecit, and all that he did, nonne hæc scripta sunt in libro sermonum dierum regum Juda?have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?Et dormivit Joakim cum patribus suis:And Jehoiakim slept with his fathers.

et regnavit Joachin filius ejus pro eo.And Jehoiachin, his son, reigned in his place.

Et ultra non addidit rex Ægypti ut egrederetur de terra sua:And the king of Egypt no longer continued to go out from his own land.tulerat enim rex Babylonis, a rivo Ægypti usque ad fluvium Euphraten,For the king of Babylon had taken all that had belonged to the king of Egypt, omnia quæ fuerant regis Ægypti.from the river of Egypt as far as the river Euphrates.

Decem et octo annorum erat Joachin cum regnare cœpisset,Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he had begun to reign,et tribus mensibus regnavit in Jerusalem:and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem.nomen matris ejus Nohesta filia Elnathan de Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan, from Jerusalem.

Et fecit malum coram Domino,And he did evil before the Lord, juxta omnia quæ fecerat pater ejus.in accord with all that his father had done.

In tempore illo ascenderunt servi Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis in Jerusalem, et circumdata est urbs munitionibus. At that time, the servants of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, ascended against Jerusalem. And the city was encircled with fortifications.

Venitque Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis ad civitatem cum servis suis ut oppugnarent eam.And Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, went to the city, with his servants, so that he might fight against it.

Egressusque est Joachin rex Juda ad regem Babylonis,And Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, went out to the king of Babylon, ipse et mater ejus,he, and his mother,et servi ejus, and his servants,et principes ejus, and his leaders,et eunuchi ejus:and his eunuchs.et suscepit eum rex Babylonis anno octavo regni sui.And the king of Babylon received him, in the eighth year of his reign.

Et protulit inde omnes thesauros domus Domini, et thesauros domus regiæ: et concidit universa vasa aurea quæ fecerat Salomon rex Israël in templo Domini juxta verbum Domini. And he took from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the house of the king. And he cut up all the gold vessels which Solomon, the king of Israel, had made for the temple of the Lord, in accord with the word of the Lord.

Et transtulit omnem Jerusalem,And he carried away all of Jerusalem,et universos principes, and all the leaders,et omnes fortes exercitus, and all the strong men of the army, decem millia, ten thousand,in captivitatem, into captivity,et omnem artificem et clusorem:with every artisan and craftsman.nihilque relictum est,And no one was left behind, exceptis pauperibus populi terræ.except the poor among the people of the land.

Transtulit quoque Joachin in Babylonem,Also, he carried away Jehoiachin into Babylon,et matrem regis, and the mother of the king,et uxores regis, et eunuchos ejus:and the wives of the king, and his eunuchs.et judices terræ duxit in captivitatem de Jerusalem in Babylonem. And he led into captivity the judges of the land, from Jerusalem to Babylon,

Et omnes viros robustos, and all the robust men, septem millia, seven thousand,et artifices, and the artisans and craftsman,et clusores mille, one thousand:omnes viros fortesall who were strong men and fit for war.et bellatores:And the king of Babylon led them away as captives, duxitque eos rex Babylonis captivos in Babylonem.into Babylon.

Et constituit Matthaniam patruum ejus pro eo:And he appointed Mattaniah, his uncle, in his place.imposuitque nomen ei Sedeciam. And he imposed the name Zedekiah upon him.

Vigesimum et primum annum ætatis habebat Sedecias cum regnare cœpisset,Zedekiah held twenty-one years of life when he had begun to reign.et undecim annis regnavit in Jerusalem:And he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem.nomen matris ejus erat Amital filia Jeremiæ de Lobna. The name of his mother was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah, from Libnah.

Et fecit malum coram Domino,And he did evil before the Lord, juxta omnia quæ fecerat Joakim.in accord with all that Jehoiakim had done.

Irascebatur enim Dominus contra Jerusalem et contra Judam,For the Lord was angry against Jerusalem and against Judah, donec projiceret eos a facie sua:until he cast them away from his face.recessitque Sedecias a rege Babylonis. And so Zedekiah withdrew from the king of Babylon.
