Rex autem loquebatur cum Giezi puero viri Dei,Now the king was speaking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God,dicens:saying,Narra mihi omnia magnalia quæ fecit Eliseus.“Describe for me all the great deeds that Elisha has done.”
Cumque ille narraret regi quomodo mortuum suscitasset,And as he was describing for the king the manner in which he had raised the dead, apparuit mulier cujus vivificaverat filium, the woman appeared, whose son he had restored to life, clamans ad regem pro domo sua, et pro agris suis. Dixitque Giezi:crying out to the king on behalf of her house and on behalf of her fields.Domine mi rex,And Gehazi said,hæc est mulier,“My lord the king,et hic est filius ejus quem suscitavit Eliseus.this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha raised up.”
Et interrogavit rex mulierem:And the king questioned the woman.quæ narravit ei.And she explained it to him.Deditque ei rex eunuchum unum,And the king appointed a eunuch to her, dicens:saying,Restitue ei omnia quæ sua sunt,“Restore to her all that is hers,et universos reditus agrorum, with all the proceeds of the fields,a die qua reliquit terram usque ad præsens.from the day that she left the land until the present.”
Venit quoque Eliseus Damascum,Also, Elisha arrived in Damascus,et Benadad rex Syriæ ægrotabat:and Benhadad, the king of Syria, was ill.nuntiaveruntque ei,And they reported to him, dicentes: Venit vir Dei huc.saying, “The man of God has arrived here.”

Ivit igitur Hazaël in occursum ejus,And so, Hazael went to meet him, having with him gifts, habens secum munera, and all the goods of Damascus,et omnia bona Damasci, the burdens of forty camels.onera quadraginta camelorum. And when he had stood before him,Cumque stetisset coram eo,he said: “Your son, Benhadad, ait: Filius tuus Benadad rex Syriæ misit me ad te,the king of Syria, sent me to you, dicens:saying:Si sanari potero de infirmitate mea hac?‘Will I be able to be healed from this, my infirmity?’”
Dixitque ei Eliseus:And Elisha said to him: “Go,Vade, tell him:dic ei: Sanaberis:‘You will be healed.’porro ostendit mihi Dominus quia morte morietur. But the Lord has revealed to me that, dying he shall die.”
Stetique cum eo,And he stood beside him,et conturbatus est usque ad suffusionem vultus:and he was so troubled that his face became flushed.flevitque vir Dei.And the man of God wept.
Cui Hazaël ait:And Hazael said to him,Quare dominus meus flet?“Why is my lord weeping?”At ille dixit:And he said:Quia scio quæ facturus sis filiis Israël mala.“Because I know the evil that you will do to the sons of Israel.Civitates eorum munitas igne succendes,Their fortified cities you will burn with fire.et juvenes eorum interficies gladio,And their young men you will kill with the sword.et parvulos eorum elides,And you will destroy their little ones,et prægnantes divides.and tear open the pregnant women.”
Dixitque Hazaël:And Hazael said,Quid enim sum servus tuus canis,“But what am I, your servant, a dog,ut faciam rem istam magnam?that I would do this great thing?”Et ait Eliseus:And Elisha said,Ostendit mihi Dominus te regem Syriæ fore.“The Lord has revealed to me that you will be the king of Syria.”
