Tunc vocavit Tobias angelum ad se,Then Tobias called the Angel to him, quem quidem hominem existimabat, whom he indeed considered to be a man, dixitque ei:and he said to him:Azaria frater,“Brother Azariah, peto ut auscultes verba mea.I implore you to listen to my words:
Si meipsum tradam tibi servum,If I should give myself to be your servant, non ero condignus providentiæ tuæ:I would not be equally worthy of your providence.
tamen obsecro te ut assumas tibi animalia sive servitia,Even so, I beg you to take with you beasts or even servants,et vadas ad Gabelum in Rages civitatem Medorum, and to go to Gabael in Rages, the city of the Medes, reddasque ei chirographum suum, and restore to him his handwritten note,et recipias ab eo pecuniam, and receive from him the money,et roges eum venire ad nuptias meas.and petition him to come to my wedding celebration.
Scis enim ipse quoniam numerat pater meus dies,For you know that my father numbers the days.et si tardavero una die plus,And if I delay one day more, contristatur anima ejus.his soul will be afflicted.
Et certe vides quomodo adjuravit me Raguel,And surely you see how Raguel has obtained my oath, cujus adjuramentum spernere non possum.an oath that I am not able to spurn.”
Tunc Raphaël assumens quatuor ex servis Raguelis,Then Raphael borrowed four of the servants of Raguel,et duos camelos, and two camels,in Rages civitatem Medorum perrexit:and he traveled to Rages, the city of the Medes.et inveniens Gabelum,And upon finding Gabael, reddidit ei chirographum suum,he gave him his handwritten note,et recepit ab eo omnem pecuniam.and he received from him all the money.
Indicavitque ei de Tobia filio Tobiæ omnia quæ gesta sunt,And he revealed to him, concerning Tobias the son of Tobit, all that had been done.fecitque eum secum venire ad nuptias. And he made him come with him to the wedding celebration.
Cumque ingressus esset domum Raguelis,And when he had entered into the house of Raguel, invenit Tobiam discumbentem:he discovered Tobias reclining at table.et exiliens,And leaping up,osculati sunt se invicem:they kissed each other.et flevit Gabelus,And Gabael wept, benedixitque Deum, and he blessed God.
et dixit:And he said:Benedicat te Deus Israël,“May the God of Israel bless you, quia filius es optimi viri et justi, for you are the son of a man most noble and just,et timentis Deum, et eleemosynas facientis:fearing God and performing almsgiving.
et dicatur benedictio super uxorem tuam,And may a blessing be spoken over your wifeet super parentes vestros, and over your parents.
et videatis filios vestros,And may you see your sons,et filios filiorum vestrorum, and the sons of your sons, usque in tertiam et quartam generationem:even to the third and fourth generation.et sit semen vestrum benedictum a Deo Israël,And may your offspring be blessed by the God of Israel, qui regnat in sæcula sæculorum.who reigns forever and ever.”
Cumque omnes dixissent:And when all had said,Amen:“Amen,”accesserunt ad convivium:they approached the feast.sed et cum timore Domini nuptiarum convivium exercebant. But they also celebrated the marriage feast with the fear of the Lord.
