Et signum magnum apparuit in cælo:And a great sign appeared in heaven:mulier amicta sole,a woman clothed with the sun,et luna sub pedibus ejus, and the moon was under her feet,et in capite ejus corona stellarum duodecim:and on her head was a crown of twelve stars.
et in utero habens,And being with child, clamabat parturiens, she cried out while giving birth,et cruciabatur ut pariat.and she was suffering in order to give birth.
Et visum est aliud signum in cælo:And another sign was seen in heaven. And behold,et ecce draco magnus rufus habens capita septem, et cornua decem:a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns,et in capitibus ejus diademata septem, and on his heads were seven diadems.
et cauda ejus trahebat tertiam partem stellarum cæli,And his tail drew down a third part of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth.et misit eas in terram:And the dragon stood before the woman,et draco stetit ante mulierem, who was about to give birth,quæ erat paritura,so that,ut cum peperisset, when she had brought forth, filium ejus devoraret.he might devour her son.
Et peperit filium masculum,And she brought forth a male child, qui recturus erat omnes gentes in virga ferrea:who was soon to rule all the nations with an iron rod.et raptus est filius ejus ad Deum,And her son was taken up to Godet ad thronum ejus, and to his throne.
et mulier fugit in solitudinem ubi habebat locum paratum a Deo,And the woman fled into solitude, where a place was being held ready by God,ut ibi pascant eam diebus mille ducentis sexaginta.so that they might pasture her in that place for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Et factum est prælium magnum in cælo:And there was a great battle in heaven.Michaël et angeli ejus præliabantur cum dracone,Michael and his Angels were battling with the dragon,et draco pugnabat, and the dragon was fighting,et angeli ejus:and so were his angels.
et non valuerunt,But they did not prevail, neque locus inventus est eorum amplius in cælo.and a place for them was no longer found in heaven.
Et projectus est draco ille magnus,And he was thrown out, serpens antiquus, that great dragon, qui vocatur diabolus, that ancient serpent,et Satanas, who is called the devil and Satan, qui seducit universum orbem:who seduces the whole world.et projectus est in terram,And he was thrown down to the earth,et angeli ejus cum illo missi sunt.and his angels were cast down with him.
Et audivi vocem magnam in cælo dicentem: Nunc facta est salus,And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying:et virtus, et regnum Dei nostri, et potestas Christi ejus:“Now have arrived salvation and virtue and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ.quia projectus est accusator fratrum nostrorum,For the accuser of our brothers has been cast down, qui accusabat illos ante conspectum Dei nostri die ac nocte.he who accused them before our God day and night.
Et ipsi vicerunt eum propter sanguinem Agni,And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of his testimony.et propter verbum testimonii sui,And they loved not their own lives,et non dilexerunt animas suas usque ad mortem.even unto death.
Propterea lætamini cæli,Because of this, rejoice,et qui habitatis in eis. Væ terræ,O heavens, and all who dwell within it.et mari, quia descendit diabolus ad vos habens iram magnam,Woe to the earth and to the sea! For the devil has descended to you, sciens quod modicum tempus habet.holding great anger, knowing that he has little time.”
Et postquam vidit draco quod projectus esset in terram,And after the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, persecutus est mulierem, quæ peperit masculum:he pursued the woman who brought forth the male child.
et datæ sunt mulieri alæ duæ aquilæ magnæ ut volaret in desertum in locum suum,And the two wings of a great eagle were given to the woman, so that she might fly away, into the desert, ubi alitur per tempus et tempora,to her place, where she is being nourished for a time,et dimidium temporis a facie serpentis.and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
Et misit serpens ex ore suo post mulierem,And the serpent sent out from his mouth, after the woman, aquam tamquam flumen, ut eam faceret trahi a flumine.water like a river, so that he might cause her to be carried away by the river.
Et adjuvit terra mulierem,But the earth assisted the woman.et aperuit terra os suum,And the earth opened her mouthet absorbuit flumen, and absorbed the river, quod misit draco de ore suo.which the dragon sent out from his mouth.
Et iratus est draco in mulierem:And the dragon was angry at the woman.et abiit facere prælium cum reliquis de semine ejus,And so he went away to do battle with the remainder of her offspring, qui custodiunt mandata Dei,those who keep the commandments of Godet habent testimonium Jesu Christi.and who hold to the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Et stetit supra arenam maris. And he stood upon the sand of the sea.
