Et vidi de mari bestiam ascendentem habentem capita septem,And I saw a beast ascending from the sea,et cornua decem, having seven heads and ten horns,et super cornua ejus decem diademata, and upon its horns were ten diadems,et super capita ejus nomina blasphemiæ.and upon its heads were names of blasphemy.

Et bestia, quam vidi, similis erat pardo,And the beast that I saw was similar to a leopard,et pedes ejus sicut pedes ursi, and its feet were like the feet of a bear,et os ejus sicut os leonis.and its mouth was like the mouth of a lion.Et dedit illi draco virtutem suam, et potestatem magnam. And the dragon gave his own power and great authority to it.

Et vidi unum de capitibus suis quasi occisum in mortem:And I saw that one of its heads seemed to be slain unto death,et plaga mortis ejus curata est.but his deadly wound was healed.Et admirata est universa terra post bestiam. And the entire world was in wonder following the beast.

Et adoraverunt draconem,And they worshiped the dragon, qui dedit potestatem bestiæ:who gave authority to the beast.et adoraverunt bestiam,And they worshiped the beast, dicentes:saying:Quis similis bestiæ?“Who is like the beast?et quis poterit pugnare cum ea?And who would be able to fight with it?”

Et datum est ei os loquens magnaAnd there was given to it a mouth,et blasphemias:speaking great things and blasphemies.et data est ei potestas facere menses quadraginta duos. And authority was given to him to act for forty-two months.

Et aperuit os suum in blasphemias ad Deum,And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God,blasphemare nomen ejus,to blaspheme his nameet tabernaculum ejus, and his tabernacleet eos qui in cælo habitant.and those who dwell in heaven.

Et est datum illi bellum facere cum sanctis,And it was given to him to make war with the saintset vincere eos.and to overcome them.Et data est illi potestas in omnem tribum,And authority was given to him over every tribeet populum, and peopleet linguam, and languageet gentem, and nation.

et adoraverunt eam omnes,And all who inhabit the earth worshiped the beast, qui inhabitant terram:those whose names have not been written, quorum non sunt scripta nomina in libro vitæ Agni, from the origin of the world, qui occisus est ab origine mundi.in the Book of Life of the Lamb who was slain.

Si quis habet aurem,If anyone has an ear, audiat.let him hear.

Qui in captivitatem duxerit,Whoever will be led into captivity,in captivitatem vadet:into captivity he goes.qui in gladio occiderit,Whoever will kill with the sword, oportet eum gladio occidi.with the sword he must be killed.Hic est patientia,Here is the patient enduranceet fides sanctorum.and faith of the Saints.

Et vidi aliam bestiam ascendentem de terra,And I saw another beast ascending from the land.et habebat cornua duo similia Agni,And she had two horns like the Lamb,et loquebatur sicut draco.but she was speaking like the dragon.

Et potestatem prioris bestiæ omnem faciebat in conspectu ejus:And she acted with all the authority of the first beast in his sight.et fecit terram,And she caused the earth,et habitantes in ea,and those dwelling in it,adorare bestiam primam,to worship the first beast, cujus curata est plaga mortis.whose deadly wound was healed.

Et fecit signa magna,And she accomplished great signs,ut etiam ignem faceret de cælo descendere in terram in conspectu hominum.even so that she would cause fire to descend from the sky to the earth in the sight of men.

Et seduxit habitantes in terra propter signa,And she seduced those living on the earth,quæ data sunt illi facere in conspectu bestiæ, dicens habitantibus in terra,by means of the signs that were given to her to perform in the sight of the beast,ut faciant imaginem bestiæ, quæ habet plagam gladii, et vixit.saying to those dwelling on the earth that they should make an image of the beast who had a wound of the sword and yet lived.

Et datum est illi ut daret spiritum imagini bestiæ,And it was given to her to give a spirit to the image of the beast,et ut loquatur imago bestiæ:so that the image of the beast would speak.et faciat ut quicumque non adoraverint imaginem bestiæ, occidantur. And she acted so that whoever would not worship the image of the beast would be slain.

Et faciet omnes pusillos,And she will cause everyone,et magnos, et divites, small and great,et pauperes, et liberos, wealthy and poor,et servos habere caracterem in dextera manu sua, aut in frontibus suis:free and servant, to have a character on their right hand or on their foreheads,

et nequis possit emere,so that no one may buyaut vendere,or sell, nisi qui habet caracterem, unless he has the character, aut nomen bestiæ,or the name of the beast, aut numerum nominis ejus.or the number of his name.

Hic sapientia est. Here is wisdom.Qui habet intellectum,Whoever has intelligence, computet numerum bestiæ.let him determine the number of the beast.Numerus enim hominis est:For it is the number of a man,et numerus ejus sexcenti sexaginta sex.and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.
