Locutusque est Dominus cunctos sermones hos:And the Lord spoke all these words:

Ego sum Dominus Deus tuus,“I am the Lord your God,qui eduxi te de terra Ægypti, who led you away from the land of Egypt,de domo servitutis.out of the house of servitude.

Non habebis deos alienos coram me.You shall not have strange gods before me.

Non facies tibi sculptile,You shall not make for yourself a graven image, neque omnem similitudinem quæ est in cælo desuper, nor a likeness of anything that is in heaven aboveet quæ in terra deorsum,or on earth below, nec eorum quæ sunt in aquis sub terra.nor of those things which are in the waters under the earth.

Non adorabis ea,You shall not adore them, neque coles:nor shall you worship them.ego sum Dominus Deus tuus fortis,I am the Lord your God:zelotes, strong, visitans iniquitatem patrum in filios, zealous,in tertiam et quartam generationem eorum qui oderunt me:visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

et faciens misericordiam in millia his qui diligunt me,and showing mercy to thousands of those who love meet custodiunt præcepta mea.and keep my precepts.

Non assumes nomen Domini Dei tui in vanum:You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.nec enim habebit insontem Dominus eum qui assumpserit nomen Domini Dei sui frustra. For the Lord will not hold harmless one who takes the name of the Lord his God falsely.

Memento ut diem sabbati sanctifices.Remember that you are to sanctify the day of the Sabbath.

Sex diebus operaberis,For six days,et facies omnia opera tua.you will work and accomplish all your tasks.

Septimo autem die sabbatum Domini Dei tui est:But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.non facies omne opus in eo,You shall not do any work in it:tu, et filius tuus et filia tua,you and your son and your daughter, servus tuus et ancilla tua, jumentum tuum, your male servant and your female servant,et advena qui est intra portas tuas.your beast and the newcomer who is within your gates.

Sex enim diebus fecit Dominus cælum et terram,For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth,et mare, and the sea,et omnia quæ in eis sunt, and all the things that are in them,et requievit in die septimo:and so he rested on the seventh day.idcirco benedixit Dominus diei sabbati,For this reason,et sanctificavit eum.the Lord has blessed the day of the Sabbath and sanctified it.

Honora patrem tuum et matrem tuam,Honor your father and your mother,ut sis longævus super terram,so that you may have a long life upon the land, quam Dominus Deus tuus dabit tibi.which the Lord your God will give to you.

Non occides.You shall not murder.

Non mœchaberis. You shall not commit adultery.

Non furtum facies. You shall not steal.

Non loqueris contra proximum tuum falsum testimonium. You shall not speak false testimony against your neighbor.

Non concupisces domum proximi tui,You shall not covet the house of your neighbor;nec desiderabis uxorem ejus, neither shall you desire his wife, non servum, nor male servant, non ancillam, nor female servant, non bovem, nor ox,non asinum, nor donkey, nec omnia quæ illius sunt.nor anything that is his.”

Cunctus autem populus videbat voces et lampades,Then all the people considered the voices, and the lights,et sonitum buccinæ,and the sound of the trumpet, montemque fumantem:and the smoking mountain.et perterriti ac pavore concussi,And being terrified and struck with fear, steterunt procul, they stood at a distance,

dicentes Moysi:saying to Moses:Loquere tu nobis,“Speak to us,et audiemus:and we will listen.non loquatur nobis Dominus,Let not the Lord speak to us,ne forte moriamur.lest perhaps we may die.”

Et ait Moyses ad populum:And Moses said to the people:Nolite timere:“Do not be afraid.ut enim probaret vos venit Deus,For God came in order to test you,et ut terror illius esset in vobis, and so that the dread of him might be with you,et non peccaretis.and you would not sin.”

Stetitque populus de longe. And the people stood far away.Moyses autem accessit ad caliginem in qua erat Deus. But Moses approached toward the mist, in which was God.

Dixit præterea Dominus ad Moysen:Thereafter, the Lord said to Moses:Hæc dices filiis Israël:“This you shall say to the sons of Israel:Vos vidistis quod de cælo locutus sim vobis. You have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven.

Non facietis deos argenteos,You shall not make gods of silver, nec deos aureos facietis vobis.nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.

Altare de terra facietis mihi,You shall make an altar from the earth for me,et offeretis super eo holocausta et pacifica vestra, and you shall offer upon it your holocausts and peace-offerings,oves vestras et boves in omni loco in quo memoria fuerit nominis mei:your sheep and oxen, in every place where the memory of my name shall be.veniam ad te,I will come to you,et benedicam tibi.and I will bless you.

Quod si altare lapideum feceris mihi,And if you make an altar of stone for me,non ædificabis illud de sectis lapidibus:you shall not build it from cut stones;si enim levaveris cultrum super eo,for if you lift up a tool over it,polluetur.it will be defiled.

Non ascendes per gradus ad altare meum,You shall not ascend by steps to my altar,ne reveletur turpitudo tua.lest your nakedness be revealed.”
