Væ terræ cymbalo alarum,Woe to the land, that winged cymbal,quæ est trans flumina Æthiopiæ,which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia,

qui mittit in mare legatos, et in vasis papyri super aquas.which sends ambassadors by sea and in vessels of papyrus above the waters.Ite, angeli veloces,Go forth, O swift Angels,ad gentem convulsam et dilaceratam;to a nation which has been convulsed and torn apart,ad populum terribilem,to a terrible people, post quem non est alius;after whom there is no other,ad gentem exspectantem et conculcatam,to a nation apprehensive and downtrodden, cujus diripuerunt flumina terram ejus.whose land the rivers have spoiled.

Omnes habitatores orbis,All inhabitants of the world, qui moramini in terra, you who dwell upon the earth:cum elevatum fuerit signum in montibus, when the sign will have been elevated on the mountains, videbitis, you will see,et clangorem tubæ audietis.and you will hear the blast of the trumpet.

Quia hæc dicit Dominus ad me:For the Lord says this to me:QuiescamI will be quiet,et considerabo in loco meo,and I will consider in my place, sicut meridiana lux clara est,as the light at midday is clear,et sicut nubes roris in die messis.and as a cloud of dew in the day of the harvest.

Ante messem enim totus effloruit,For before the harvest,et immatura perfectio germinabit;all was flourishing.et præcidentur ramusculi ejus falcibus,And it will spring forth with an untimely completion,et quæ derelicta fuerint abscindenturand its little branches will be pruned with a curved blade.et excutientur. And what is left over will be cut away and shaken off.

Et relinquentur simul avibus montium et bestiis terræ;And together they will be abandoned to the birds of the mountains and to the wild beasts of the earth.et æstate perpetua erunt super eum volucres,And the birds will be continuously on them in the summer,et omnes bestiæ terræ super illum hiemabunt.and all the wild beasts of the earth will winter over them.

In tempore illo deferetur munus Domino exercituum a populo divulsoIn that time,et dilacerato,a gift will be carried to the Lord of hosts,a populo terribili, from a people divided and torn apart, post quem non fuit alius;from a terrible people,a gente exspectante, after whom there has been no other, exspectantefrom an apprehensive nation,et conculcata, apprehensive and downtrodden, cujus diripuerunt flumina terram ejus;whose land the rivers have ruined,ad locum nominis Domini exercituum, and it will be carried to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, montem Sion.to mount Zion.
