Verbum quod factum est a Domino ad Jeremiam,The word that came from the Lord to Jeremiah, dicens:saying:

Audite verba pacti hujus,“Listen to the words of this covenant,et loquimini ad viros Juda, and speak to the men of Judahet ad habitatores Jerusalem, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

et dices ad eos:And you shall say to them:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël:Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel:Maledictus vir qui non audierit verba pacti hujusCursed is the man who will not listen to the words of this covenant,

quod præcepi patribus vestris, in die qua eduxi eos de terra Ægypti, which I commanded to your fathers in the day when I led them away from the land of Egypt,de fornace ferrea, away from the iron furnace, dicens:saying:Audite vocem meam,Listen to my voice,et facite omnia quæ præcipio vobis, and do all that I command you,et eritis mihi in populum, et ego ero vobis in Deum:and then you will be my people and I will be your God.

ut suscitem juramentum quod juravi patribus vestris,So shall I uphold the oath which I swore to your fathers, daturum me eis terram fluentem lacte et melle, that I would give them a land flowing with milksicut est dies hæc.and honey,Et respondi, just as it is this day.”et dixi:And I answered by saying:Amen,“Amen,Domine.O Lord.”

Et dixit Dominus ad me:And the Lord said to me:Vociferare omnia verba hæc in civitatibus Juda,“Shout all these words in the cities of Judah,et foris Jerusalem, and in the streets of Jerusalem, dicens:saying:Audite verba pacti hujus,Listen to the words of the covenant,et facite illa, and do them.

quia contestans contestatus sum patres vestros, in die qua eduxi eos de terra Ægypti,For when testing, I tested your fathers in the day when I led them away from the land of Egypt, usque ad diem hanc:even until this day.mane consurgens contestatus sum,Rising early, I tested them,et dixi:and I said:Audite vocem meam.Listen to my voice.

Et non audierunt,But they did not listen, nec inclinaverunt aurem suam, nor did they incline their ear. Instead, sed abierunt, unusquisque in pravitate cordis sui mali:each one of them walked in the depravity of his own evil heart. And so,et induxi super eos omnia verba pacti hujus quod præcepi ut facerent,I brought over them all the words of this covenant, which I instructed them to do.et non fecerunt. But they would not do them.”

Et dixit Dominus ad me:And the Lord said to me:Inventa est conjuratio in viris Juda et in habitatoribus Jerusalem.“A conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Reversi sunt ad iniquitates patrum suorum priores,They have returned to the former iniquities of their fathers, qui noluerunt audire verba mea:who refused to listen to my words.et hi ergo abierunt post deos alienos,And likewise, they have gone after strange gods,ut servirent eis:so that they may serve them.irritum fecerunt domus Israël et domus Juda pactum meum quod pepigi cum patribus eorum. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have treated as void my covenant, which I made with their fathers.

Quam ob rem hæc dicit Dominus:For this reason, thus says the Lord:Ecce ego inducam super eos mala de quibus exire non poterunt:Behold, I will lead evils over them, from which they will not be able to escape.et clamabunt ad me,And they will cry out to me,et non exaudiam eos.and I will not heed them.

Et ibunt civitates JudaAnd the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go forth,et habitatores Jerusalem, and they will cry out to the gods,et clamabunt ad deos quibus libant,to whom they offer libations,et non salvabunt eos in tempore afflictionis eorum.and they will not save them in the time of their affliction.

Secundum numerum enim civitatum tuarum erant dii tui,For according to the number of your cities, so were your gods,Juda:O Judah.et secundum numerum viarum Jerusalem,And according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem, posuisti aras confusionis,so did you establish altars of confusion, aras ad libandum Baalim.altars to offer libations to Baal.

Tu ergo noli orare pro populo hoc,Therefore,et ne assumas pro eis laudemyou should not choose to pray for this people,et orationem, and you should not take up praise and petitioning on their behalf.quia non exaudiam in tempore clamoris eorum ad me,For I will not heed them in the time of their outcry to me,in tempore afflictionis eorum.in the time of their affliction.

Quid est, quod dilectus meus in domo mea fecit scelera multa? Why has my beloved wrought great wickedness in my house?numquid carnes sanctæ auferent a te malitias tuas,How can the holy flesh take away from you your wickedness,in quibus gloriata es?in which you have gloried?

Olivam uberem,The Lord has called your name:pulchram,a beautiful, fructiferam, fruitful, speciosam, splendid, vocavit Dominus nomen tuum:and productive olive tree.ad vocem loquelæ,At the voice of a word, grandis exarsit ignis in ea,a great fire was kindled in it,et combusta sunt fruteta ejus.and its greenery was burned up.

Et Dominus exercituum,And the Lord of hosts, qui plantavit te,who planted you, locutus est super te malum, has pronounced an evil against you,pro malis domus Israël,concerning the evils of the house of Israelet domus Juda, and the house of Judah,quæ fecerunt sibi ad irritandum me,which they have done to themselves so as to provoke me,libantes Baalim.by offering libations to Baal.”

Tu autem,But you,Domine,O Lord, demonstrasti mihi, have revealed this to me,et cognovi:and I have understood.tunc ostendisti mihi studia eorum. Then you displayed their efforts to me.

Et ego quasi agnus mansuetus,And I was like a meek lamb, qui portatur ad victimam:who is being carried to be a victim.et non cognovi quia cogitaverunt super me consilia,And I did not realize that they had devised plans against me,dicentes:saying:Mittamus lignum in panem ejus,“Let us place wood upon his bread,et eradamus eum de terra viventium, and let us eradicate him from the land of the living,et nomen ejus non memoretur amplius.and let his name no longer be remembered.”

Tu autem,But you,Domine Sabaoth,O Lord of hosts, qui judicas juste, who judges justly,et probas renes et corda, and who tests the temperament and the heart, videam ultionem tuam ex eis:let me see your vengeance against them.tibi enim revelavi causam meam. For I have revealed my case to you.

Propterea hæc dicit Dominus ad viros Anathoth,“Because of this, thus says the Lord to the men of Anathoth, qui quærunt animam tuam, et dicunt:who are seeking your life, and who are saying:Non prophetabis in nomine Domini,‘You shall not prophesy in the name of the Lord,et non morieris in manibus nostris:and you shall not die by our hands.’

propterea hæc dicit Dominus exercituum:Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts:Ecce ego visitabo super eos:Behold, I will visit upon them.juvenes morientur in gladio;Their young men will die by the sword.filii eorum et filiæ eorum morientur in fame.Their sons and their daughters will die by famine.

Et reliquiæ non erunt ex eis:And there will be nothing left of them.inducam enim malum super viros Anathoth,For I will lead an evil over the men of Anathoth:annum visitationis eorum.the year of their visitation.”
