¹Ostendit mihi Dominus:The Lord revealed to me,et ecce duo calathi pleni ficis, positi ante templum Domini,and behold, two baskets full of figs were set before the temple of the Lord,postquam transtulit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis Jechoniam filium Joakim,after Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, carried away Jeconiah,regem Juda, et principes ejus,the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah,et fabrum,and his leaders,et inclusorem, de Jerusalem,and the craftsmen and engravers of Jerusalem,et adduxit eos in Babylonem.and led them into Babylon.

²Calathus unus ficus bonas habebat nimis,One basket had exceedingly good figs,ut solent ficus esse primi temporis:like the figs usually found early in the season,et calathus unus ficus habebat malas nimis,and the other basket had exceedingly bad figs,quæ comedi non poterant eo quod essent malæ.which could not be eaten because they were so bad.

⁵Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël:“Thus says the Lord,Sicut ficus hæ bonæ,the God of Israel:sic cognoscam transmigrationem Juda,Just like these good figs,quam emisi de loco isto in terram Chaldæorum,so will I regard as good the captives of Judah,in bonum.whom I have sent from this place into the land of the Chaldeans.

⁶Et ponam oculos meos super eos ad placandum,And I will set my eyes upon them, so as to be pleased.et reducam eos in terram hanc:And I will lead them back into this land.et ædificabo eos,And I will build them up,et non destruam:and I will not tear them down.et plantabo eos,And I will plant them,et non evellam.and I will not uproot them.
