Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam secundo,And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, cum adhuc clausus esset in atrio carceris, while he was still confined to the atrium of the prison, dicens:saying:

Hæc dicit Dominus,“Thus says the Lord,qui facturus est,who will prepare,et formaturus illud,and form,et paraturus:and accomplish it;Dominus nomen ejus:the Lord is his name.

Clama ad me,Cry out to me and I will heed you.et exaudiam te,And I will announce to you great things,et annuntiabo tibi grandiathings that are certain,et firma quæ nescis.though you do not know them.

Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël ad domos urbis hujus,For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to the houses of this city,et ad domos regis Juda, and to the houses of the king of Judah,quæ destructæ sunt, which have been destroyed,et ad munitiones, and to the fortifications,et ad gladiumand to the sword

venientium ut dimicent cum Chaldæis,of those who have arrived,et impleant eas cadaveribus hominum quos percussi in furore meoso that they may fight with the Chaldeans,et in indignatione mea,and so that they may have their fill of the dead bodies of the men whom I have struck down in my fury and in my indignation, abscondens faciem meam a civitate hac, concealing my face from this city, propter omnem malitiam eorum:because of all their wickedness:

Ecce ego obducam eis cicatricem et sanitatem,Behold, I will lead over them scars and health,et curabo eos,and I will cure them.et revelabo illis deprecationem pacis et veritatis. And I will reveal to them an invocation of peace and truth.

Et convertam conversionem JudaAnd I will convert the turning away of Judah and the turning away of Jerusalem.et conversionem Jerusalem,And I will build them up,et ædificabo eos sicut a principio.just as from the beginning.

Et emundabo illos ab omni iniquitate sua in qua peccaverunt mihi,And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity,et propitius ero cunctis iniquitatibus eorum,by which they have sinned against me.in quibus dereliquerunt mihiAnd I will forgive all their iniquities,et spreverunt me.by which they have offended against me and have despised me.

Et erit mihi in nomen,And this will be for me: a name,et in gaudium, and a joy, and a praise,et in laudem, and an exultation,et in exsultationem cunctis gentibus terræ, quæ audierint omnia bona quæ ego facturus sum eis:among all the nations of the earth who will hear about all the good things that I will accomplish for them.et pavebunt et turbabuntur in universis bonis,And they will be afraid and troubled over all these good things,et in omni pace quam ego faciam eis.and over all the peace, that I will accomplish for them.

Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Adhuc audietur in loco isto quem vos dicitis esse desertum,Still shall there be heard in this place,eo quod non sit homo nec jumentum in civitatibus Juda,(which you say is desolate,et foris Jerusalem, because there is neither man nor beast,)quæ desolatæ sunt, and in the cities of Judah and outside of Jerusalem, absque homine,(which are desolate,et absque habitatore, without man,et absque pecore, and without an inhabitant and without cattle,)

vox gaudii et vox lætitiæ,the voice of gladness and the voice of rejoicing, vox sponsi et vox sponsæ, vox dicentium:the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride,Confitemini Domino exercituum, the voice of those who will say:quoniam bonus Dominus,‘Confess to the Lord of hosts!quoniam in æternum misericordia ejus:For the Lord is good! For his mercy is eternal!’et portantium vota in domum Domini:and the voice of those fulfilling their vows in the house of the Lord.reducam enim conversionem terræ sicut a principio,For I will lead back the turning away of the land, just as from the beginning, dicit Dominus.says the Lord.”

Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum:Thus says the Lord of hosts:Adhuc erit in loco isto deserto,“Still shall there be in this place, absque homine et absque jumento,(which is desolate without man and without beast,)et in cunctis civitatibus ejus, and in all of its cities:habitaculum pastorum accubantium gregum.a habitation for the shepherds giving rest to their flocks.

In civitatibus montuosis,For even in the cities on the mountains,et in civitatibus campestribus, and in the cities on the plains,et in civitatibus quæ ad austrum sunt, and in the cities that are toward the south,et in terra Benjamin, and in the land of Benjamin,et in circuitu Jerusalem, and all around Jerusalem,et in civitatibus Juda, and in the cities of Judah, adhuc transibunt greges ad manum numerantis, still shall the flocks travel by the hand of him who numbers them, ait Dominus.says the Lord.

Ecce dies veniunt,Behold, dicit Dominus, the days are approaching,et suscitabo verbum bonum quod locutus sum ad domum Israëlsays the Lord,et ad domum Juda.when I will fulfill the good word that I have spoken to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.

In diebus illis et in tempore illo germinare faciam David germen justitiæ,In those days and at that time, I will cause the seedling of justice to spring up from David,et faciet judicium et justitiam in terra:and he will accomplish judgment and justice upon the earth.

in diebus illis salvabitur Juda,In those days, Judah will be saved,et Jerusalem habitabit confidenter:and Jerusalem will live in confidence.et hoc est nomen quod vocabunt eum:And this is the name that they will call him:Dominus justus noster.‘The Lord, our Just One.’

Quia hæc dicit Dominus:For thus says the Lord:Non interibit de David vir qui sedeat super thronum domus Israël:There shall not cease to be a man from David sitting upon the throne of the house of Israel.

et de sacerdotibusAnd there shall not cease to be a man from the priests and from the Levites before my face,et de Levitis non interibit vir a facie mea,who offers holocausts, qui offerat holocautomata, and burns sacrifices,et incendat sacrificum, and kills victims,et cædat victimas omnibus diebus.for days without end.”

Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam,And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, dicens:saying:

Hæc dicit Dominus:“Thus says the Lord:Si irritum potest fieri pactum meum cum die,If my covenant with the day is able to be nullified,et pactum meum cum nocte,or my covenant with the night,ut non sit dies et nox in tempore suo, such that there would be no day and no night in their time,

et pactum meum irritum esse poterit cum David servo meo, ut non sit ex eo filius qui regnet in throno ejus, et Levitæ et sacerdotes ministri mei.then, too, my covenant with David, my servant, may be nullified, such that he would not have a son who reigns upon his throne, with both the Levites and the priests as my ministers.

Sicuti enumerari non possunt stellæ cæli,Just as the stars of heaven are not able to be numbered,et metiri arena maris, sic multiplicabo semen David servi mei,and the sand of the sea is not able to be measured, so will I multiply the offspring of David,et Levitas ministros meos.my servant, and the Levites, my ministers.”

Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam,And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, dicens:saying:

Numquid non vidisti quid populus hic locutus sit,“Have you not seen what this people has spoken?dicens:They say:Duæ cognationes quas elegerat Dominus abjectæ sunt?‘The two families which the Lord had chosen have been rejected.’et populum meum despexerunt,And so they have despised my people,eo quod non sit ultra gens coram eis.as if they were no longer a nation in their sight.

Hæc dicit Dominus:Thus says the Lord:Si pactum meum inter diem et noctem,If I have not established my covenant with the day and the night,et leges cælo et terræ non posui, and my laws over heaven and earth,

equidemthen truly I will also cast aside the offspring of Jacob,et semen Jacoband of David,et David servi mei projiciam,my servant,ut non assumam de semine ejus principes seminis Abraham,so that I do not take up any of his offspring to be leaders over the offspring of Abraham,Isaac,Isaac,et Jacob:and Jacob.reducam enim conversionem eorum,For I will lead back their turning away,et miserebor eis.and I will take pity on them.”
