et ingressi sunt omnes principes regis Babylonis, et sederunt in porta media:And all the rulers of the king of Babylon entered and were seated at the middle gate: Nergal-Sharezer,Neregel, Sereser, the priest of Nebo,Semegarnabu, Sarsachim,Sarsechim, the chief eunuch,Rabsares, Neregel,Nergal-Sharezer,Sereser, Rebmag, the chief magi,et omnes reliqui principes regis Babylonis.and all the other rulers of the king of Babylon.
Cumque vidisset eos Sedecias rex Juda,And when Zedekiah, the king of Judah,et omnes viri bellatores, with all the men of war, had seen them, fugerunt:they fled.et egressi sunt nocte de civitate per viam horti regis,And they departed from the city at night, by way of the king’s garden,et per portam quæ erat inter duos muros, and through the gate which was between the two walls.et egressi sunt ad viam deserti. And they departed along the way of the desert.
Persecutus est autem eos exercitus Chaldæorum,But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them.et comprehenderunt Sedeciam in campo solitudinis Jerichontinæ,And they overtook Zedekiah in the plain of the desert of Jericho.et captum adduxerunt ad Nabuchodonosor regem Babylonis,And having captured him, they led him to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon,in Reblatha, quæ est in terra Emath:at Riblah, which is in the land of Hamath.et locutus est ad eum judicia. And he declared a judgment against him
Et occidit rex Babylonis filios Sedeciæ in Reblatha,And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah, at Riblah,in oculis ejus:before his eyes.et omnes nobiles Juda occidit rex Babylonis. And the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah.
Oculos quoque Sedeciæ eruit,Also, he plucked out the eyes of Zedekiah.et vinxit eum compedibus ut duceretur in Babylonem. And he bound him with fetters, to be led away to Babylon.
Domum quoque regisAlso,et domum vulgi succenderunt Chaldæi igni, the Chaldeans burned the house of the king and the house of the people with fire,et murum Jerusalem subverterunt.and they overturned the wall of Jerusalem.
Et reliquias populi qui remanserant in civitate,And Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military,et perfugas qui transfugerant ad eum, et superfluos vulgi qui remanserant, carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people who had remained in the city, transtulit Nabuzardan, and the fugitives who had fled to him, magister militum, in Babylonem.and all the rest of the people who had remained.
Et de plebe pauperum,And Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, qui nihil penitus habebant, released some of the poor people, dimisit Nabuzardan magister militum in terra Juda, those who had almost nothing, into the land of Judah.et dedit eis vineas et cisternas in die illa. And he gave them vineyards and cisterns in that day.
Præceperat autem Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis de Jeremia Nabuzardan magistro militum, dicens:Now Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had instructed Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, about Jeremiah, saying:
Tolle illum,“Take him,et pone super eum oculos tuos, and set your eyes on him, nihilque ei mali facias:and you shall do no harm to him at all.sed ut voluerit,But as he is willing, sic facias ei.so shall you do with him.”
Misit ergo Nabuzardan princeps militiæ,Therefore, Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military,et Nabusezban, sent, and Nebushazban,et Rabsares, the chief eunuch,et Neregel, et Sereser, and Nergal-Sharezer,et Rebmag, the chief magi,et omnes optimates regis Babylonis, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon sent,
miserunt, and they took Jeremiah from the vestibule of the prison,et tulerunt Jeremiam de vestibulo carceris, and they delivered him to Gedaliah,et tradiderunt eum Godoliæ filio Ahicam filii Saphan, the son of Ahikam,ut intraret in domum, the son of Shaphan,et habitaret in populo.so that he could enter a house and live among the people.
Ad Jeremiam autem factus fuerat sermo Domini, cum clausus esset in vestibulo carceris, dicens:But the word of the Lord had come to Jeremiah, when he had been confined to the vestibule of the prison, saying: “Go, and speak to Ebedmelech, the Ethiopian, saying:
Vade, et dic Abdemelech Æthiopi, dicens:Thus says the Lord of hosts,Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, the God of Israel: Behold,Deus Israël: Ecce ego inducam sermones meos super civitatem hanc in malum,I will bring my words over this city for evil, and not for good;et non in bonum, et erunt in conspectu tuo in die illa.and they shall be in your sight in that day.
Et liberabo te in die illa,And I will free you in that day,ait Dominus, says the Lord.et non traderis in manus virorum quos tu formidas:And you will not be delivered into the hands of the men whom you dread.
sed eruens liberabo te,But when delivering, I will free you.et gladio non cades,And you will not fall by the sword.sed erit tibi anima tua in salutem,Instead, your life will be saved for you, quia in me habuisti fiduciam, because you had faith in me,ait Dominus.says the Lord.”
