Et die tertia nuptiæ factæ sunt in Cana Galilææ,And on the third day, a wedding was held in Cana of Galilee,et erat mater Jesu ibi.and the mother of Jesus was there.

Vocatus est autem et Jesus, et discipuli ejus,Now Jesus was also invited to the wedding,ad nuptias.with his disciples.

Et deficiente vino,And when the wine was failing, dicit mater Jesu ad eum:the mother of Jesus said to him,Vinum non habent.“They have no wine.”

Et dicit ei Jesus:And Jesus said to her:Quid mihi et tibi est,“What is that to me and to you, mulier?woman?nondum venit hora mea.My hour has not yet arrived.”

Dicit mater ejus ministris:His mother said to the servants,Quodcumque dixerit vobis, facite.“Do whatever he tells you.”

Erant autem ibi lapideæ hydriæ sex positæ secundum purificationem Judæorum,Now in that place, there were six stone water jars, for the purification ritual of the Jews, capientes singulæ metretas binas vel ternas.containing two or three measures each.

Dicit eis Jesus:Jesus said to them,Implete hydrias aqua.“Fill the water jars with water.”Et impleverunt eas usque ad summum. And they filled them to the very top.

Et dicit eis Jesus:And Jesus said to them,Haurite nunc,“Now draw from it,et ferte architriclino.and carry it to the chief steward of the feast.”Et tulerunt. And they took it to him.

Ut autem gustavit architriclinus aquam vinum factam,Then,et non sciebat unde esset, when the chief steward had tasted the water made into wine, ministri autem sciebant, since he did not know where it was from, qui hauserant aquam:for only the servants who had drawn the water knew, vocat sponsum architriclinus, the chief steward called the groom,

et dicit ei:and he said to him:Omnis homo primum bonum vinum ponit“Every man offers the good wine first,et cum inebriati fuerint, and then, tunc id,when they have become inebriated, quod deterius est.he offers what is worse.Tu autem servasti bonum vinum usque adhuc. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

Hoc fecit initium signorum Jesus in Cana Galilææ;This was the beginning of the signs that Jesus accomplished in Cana of Galilee,et manifestavit gloriam suam, and it manifested his glory,et crediderunt in eum discipuli ejus.and his disciples believed in him.

Post hoc descendit Capharnaum ipse,After this, he descended to Capernaum,et mater ejus, et fratres ejus, et discipuli ejus:with his mother and his brothers and his disciples,et ibi manserunt non multis diebus.but they did not remain there for many days.

Et prope erat Pascha Judæorum,And the Passover of the Jews was near,et ascendit Jesus Jerosolymam:and so Jesus ascended to Jerusalem.

et invenit in templo vendentes boves,And he found,et oves, sitting in the temple,et columbas, sellers of oxen and sheep and doves,et numularios sedentes.and the moneychangers.

Et cum fecisset quasi flagellum de funiculis,And when he had made something like a whip out of little cords, omnes ejecit de templo,he drove them all out of the temple, oves quoque, including the sheepet boves, and the oxen.et numulariorum effudit æs,And he poured out the brass coins of the moneychangers,et mensas subvertit.and he overturned their tables.

Et his qui columbas vendebant,And to those who were selling doves, dixit:he said:Auferte ista hinc,“Take these things out of here,et nolite facere domum patris mei, domum negotiationis.and do not make my Father’s house into a house of commerce.”

Recordati sunt vero discipuli ejus quia scriptum est:And truly, his disciples were reminded that it is written:Zelus domus tuæ comedit me.“Zeal for your house consumes me.”

Responderunt ergo Judæi,Then the Jews respondedet dixerunt ei:and said to him,Quod signum ostendis nobis,“What sign can you show to us,quia hæc facis?that you may do these things?”

Respondit Jesus,Jesus respondedet dixit eis:and said to them,Solvite templum hoc,“Destroy this temple,et in tribus diebus excitabo illud.and in three days I will raise it up.”

Dixerunt ergo Judæi:Then the Jews said,Quadraginta et sex annis ædificatum est templum hoc,“This temple has been built up over forty-six years,et tu in tribus diebus excitabis illud?and you will raise it up in three days?”

Ille autem dicebat de templo corporis sui.Yet he was speaking about the Temple of his body.

Cum ergo resurrexisset a mortuis,Therefore, recordati sunt discipuli ejus, when he had resurrected from the dead, quia hoc dicebat, his disciples were reminded that he had said this,et crediderunt scripturæ et sermoni quem dixit Jesus.and they believed in the Scriptures and in the word that Jesus had spoken.

Cum autem esset Jerosolymis in Pascha in die festo,Now while he was at Jerusalem during the Passover, multi crediderunt in nomine ejus,on the day of the feast, videntes signa ejus, many trusted in his name,quæ faciebat.seeing his signs that he was accomplishing.

Ipse autem Jesus non credebat semetipsum eis,But Jesus did not trust himself to them,eo quod ipse nosset omnes, because he himself had knowledge of all persons,

et quia opus ei non erat ut quis testimonium perhiberet de homine:and because he had no need of anyone to offer testimony about a man.ipse enim sciebat quid esset in homine. For he knew what was within a man.
